We begin our journey at Monaco train station, surrounded by the calm of a late autumn morning. The Gare de Monaco-Monte-Carlo connects the Principality to cities across the Côte d’Azur — from Menton to Grasse Boarding the TER regional train to Nice — a quick and scenic ride of about 25 minutes along the coast. Inside the train, modern, clean, and comfortable — a glimpse into everyday life for locals commuting along the Riviera. Tip 💡: For the best fares, buy your ticket at the machine or on the SNCF Connect app before boarding. Tip: Always buy the ticket for the trip because there are random controllers who demand the ticket and fine you if you did not buy it. Arriving at Nice-Ville station, built in 1867 in elegant Louis XIII style, with its signature red façade and clock tower. Nice Ville is one of the busiest train stations on the French Riviera, as many people live here and work in Monaco. From here begins our walk through the heart of Nice — a city that blends Italian charm with French elegance. We are now walking along Avenue Jean Médecin, Nice’s main shopping artery.
It stretches from the train station to Place Masséna. On both sides — boutiques, cafés, and the famous department store Galeries Lafayette. In autumn, the avenue glows under soft golden light — a perfect time to stroll without the summer crowds. Tip 💡: Try a coffee or pastry at one of the local bakeries — many serve traditional tarte niçoise or pain au chocolat. Downtown Nice offers a slower rhythm — a balance between cosmopolitan life and Mediterranean simplicity. As you can see, this area is full of shops and restaurants. As we walk, you may notice the scent of freshly baked “socca” or “pissaladière,” two specialties that originated in these very streets. Even though it’s mid-autumn, you can see that there is quite a crowd, it’s the magic of Nice that captivates the traveler. As you can see, this is one of the busiest areas of Nice Not only because of the diversity of restaurants but because the city invites you to get lost in its streets. These colorful buildings, painted in warm ochre and red tones, reflect the influence of nearby Italy, which once ruled this region. The old town is also home to many chapels and hidden squares, each with centuries of history One of the things I like most about the restaurants in this area is that they are full of floral decorations, which gives it a Parisian vibe. Since it is an October and the temperatures are more conducive to taking a walk, you will see more people in attendance. As I mentioned before, this is an area full of boutiques, for shopping lovers it’s like being in paradise. We’ve arrived at Place Masséna, the heart of Nice.Designed in 1840, it’s famous for its red arcades and checkerboard pavement. Around the square, seven statues representing continents glow at night with changing colors — a true spectacle after sunset. At the center stands the Fountain of Apollo, sculpted by Alfred Janniot — a symbol of the city’s light and vitality. Now we have arrived at the flower market or also known as cours saleya Every morning, locals and visitors gather here for a feast of colors and scents. 🌸🍊 You’ll find everything from Provençal flowers and spices to freshly baked bread, local olive oils, and handmade soaps. Tip: come early in the morning for the freshest produce — or late morning when the light is perfect for photos. 📸 Entering the Old Town, where narrow streets are filled with scents of soap, spices, and local dishes. Did you know that this area was once part of the Kingdom of Sardinia and still retains its Italian Baroque soul. Colorful façades, laundry lines, and artisan shops create an atmosphere that feels timeless. We now reach the Church of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur, also known as Église du Gesù. Built in the 17th century by Jesuits, it’s a masterpiece of baroque architecture with rich stucco and frescoes. Tip 💡: Entrance is free, but be respectful — many locals come here for quiet prayer. Inside, look for the main altar — a stunning combination of marble, gold, and painted columns. If you have time and pass by here, don’t miss the opportunity to discover this beautiful architectural gem. These are one of the things that amaze me about Nice, finding these art spaces where you least expect them. We are approaching one of the busiest squares in old Nice, known for its famous ice cream parlor. I must admit that their ice creams are a real delight, their creaminess is something unique. You will also find more churches in the area, each one a unique piece worthy of admiration. Now we head toward the sea — the famous Promenade des Anglais awaits. Stretching for 7 km, this promenade was built in the 19th century by English residents who spent winters here. Although it’s mid-October, you can see people enjoying the Mediterranean Sea. Tip 💡: Rent a blue city bike or e-scooter to explore the entire promenade easily. In autumn, the promenade feels peaceful — locals walking their dogs, joggers by the sea, the rhythm of daily life. Look toward the horizon — the water’s color shifts from turquoise to deep sapphire as the sun lowers. The perfect way to end the day: sit by the water and watch the last reflections of the sunset on the waves.
