Smyth, ***, Chicago

My girlfriend and I visited Chicago for the first time and went to Smyth for her birthday dinner on 12/27.

Unpictured was the amazake. Very light and refreshing.

We got the regular wine pairing, not Super Mega, and each course should include the wine.

I was a little nervous, having read all the reviews and Smyth being very polarizing, but we both enjoyed it very much. We weren't a fan of the seaweed candy (I think) that they sent us home with, but that was about it for dislikes.

Interestingly, contrary to the reviews, they said they were NOT including a 20% service charge or tip, and it was left up to us. Maybe this is something new they are trying, but it was a pleasant surprise.
