Hey there fellow travelers!
Mark here with Wolters World, and today we’re in Nancy, one of eastern France’s most beautiful and underrated cities. In this video, we’re sharing the do’s and don’ts of visiting Nancy so you can enjoy the city like a pro and avoid the common tourist mistakes.
Nancy is best known for the stunning Place Stanislas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most beautiful squares in all of Europe. But there’s so much more to this city than just the square. We’ll also talk about visiting the Palais des Ducs de Lorraine, wandering through Parc de la Pépinière, and appreciating Nancy’s incredible Art Nouveau architecture, especially around the Musée de l’École de Nancy.
We’ll also cover local food and drinks you should absolutely try while you’re here. That includes sweet treats like bergamote de Nancy candies, the famous macarons de Nancy, and regional classics such as quiche lorraine, pâté lorrain, and mirabelle plum desserts and liqueurs—since Lorraine is the heart of mirabelle country.
This video also breaks down:
What tourists should and shouldn’t do around Place Stanislas
Dining etiquette and restaurant expectations in Nancy
What to know about shops, opening hours, and Sundays
How Nancy feels very different from Paris (and why that’s a good thing)
Cultural tips to help you blend in and travel respectfully
If you’re planning a trip to Nancy, France, traveling through Grand Est, or looking for a less touristy French city with amazing history, food, and architecture, this video is for you.

He's not fit to wipe Rick Steves shoes
Hey Mark, awesome video
Great video, thank you
Thank you Mark, Nancy looks well worth a visit. Just been checking out flight possibilities, a good option from northern UK looks to be – fly to Charles de Gaulle airport, train to Nancy and reverse the arrangement homewards. Hope we get to beautiful Nancy, your videos about the city have interested me in visiting an area I wouldn't have otherwise considered.
It’s not Saturday mark!! Also good morning!
I'm not from Nancy, but I can confirm that this city is a true gem. Brasserie L'Excelsior (opposite the train station) is the place to have lunch or dinner; the building itself is beautiful (inside and outside) and the food is top quality. If you like Art Nouveau, Nancy is the place to visit: Go to the tourist office to book a guided tour; definitely worth it. Two world-renowned luxury brands originate in Nancy and its surroundings: Daum and Baccarat. Both brands have their own shop/store in Nancy. Baccarat is actually a town where the factory is based; you can go and visit the factory and watch workers produce and assemble crystal pieces/items. It's a 50-minute drive or a 35-to-45-minute train journey from Nancy. Last but not least, if you like glazed earthenware, stop at Lunéville on your way to Baccarat. The town is known nationwide for its plates and many other items made of the same material.
Oh I’d Love to visit Nancy! Looks fabulous❤
I was fortunate enough to study abroad here in 2022, and I will say Nancy is beautiful and bigger than you think. Take a few days to see the town and all of its glory!
I studied abroad at ICN there, 10/10 city
Another great video! I can't believe you were so close to my home 😆. In fact there are no "don't" but many "do!". We also have a few châteaux to visit in the suburbs. Near the Musée de l'école de Nancy you have a thermal center with a spa, swimming pools etc. Quartier de Saurupt, you will see big beautiful houses there, manors. And the cristal, Daum or Baccarat. Come and see us, it's not overcrowded and underrated
It’s on our schedule this year
Nancy, Metz and Strasbourg are all worth visiting in that region of France. They each have different architecture like the yellow sandstone buildings of Metz.
Great video! I was there 12 years ago and concur it is not overrun with tourists; an easy day trip from Strasbourg. Compared to similar sized cities, Nancy's Fine Arts Museum is very impressive.
Don't forget to wear your fancy pants when visiting Nancy, France. 😬😆
Great Video guys !! Hope to get there soon. Always great advice. Sending you much love ❤❤ from Richmond, VA. Jim, Harriet and Yuki
I may add : DONT WEAR A MAGA HAT IN EUROPE AT THE MINUTE.
I visited Nancy in 2013 for my first European concert at the Zenith, which was Rammstein. The city is cool, the main square is absolutely huge. Word of warning for English speaking tourists, you must know some French if interacting with locals they will not be inclined to speak English and help you
Long time watcher, resident of Nancy. Happy to see you cover it, and very well. And kudos on your french pronunciations. If i can offer a tiiiiiiiiny suggestion: beaux-arts is not pronounced like ‘bow art’ more like ‘bose art’. We pronounce the ‘x’. Sending warm wishes and fun travels, otherwise 😊
It looks wonderful
There's a "great" joke on that old UK comedy show "'Allo, 'Allo" involving Nancy.
went here specifically for Place Stanislas because my mom is polish and I had to show her while I was there. 😂
