Is Driving to the French Alps Worth It? 750 Mile Camper Van Journey 🇫🇷

Planning to drive to the French Alps in a camper van? This video shows the reality — not just the highlights.

We travel 750 miles from the UK to Bourg-Saint-Maurice for our annual ski trip, using the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle from Folkestone into France.

But this isn’t just a travel vlog — it’s a real-world guide to doing the trip yourself.

    In this episode you’ll learn:
    • How to pack a camper van for a winter ski trip
    • The easiest way to cross the Channel with a van
    • Where to stop overnight in France safely
    • What French motorway services are actually like
    • How long the drive really takes
    • Winter driving conditions in the Alps
    • Unexpected problems (including wildlife damage 😬)

If you’re considering driving to the Alps instead of flying — this series will help you decide if it’s worth it.

    So Who are Campervan Journey?

We are JT, Harry, Claire, Sam and Ben, oh and Hunny the Dog. We discovered campervanning in 2015 when we bought our first Volkswagen T5 Combo after seeing many at our favourite campsites. We were staying with our tent, and dreaming that one day we would have our own Campervan. After much research, we bought and converted our own T5 Kombi to suit our requirements, check out the video on the channel. We soon discovered that owning a Campervan is a way of life and it is not just about amazing trips round Europe, it’s as much about great days out and family time…

We have been lucky enough to visit some amazing places with our van, many of which we know we wouldn’t have seen if we had not owned it. They instil a sense of adventure and where shall we go into your life.

After 3 years with the T5, we upgraded to a Volkswagen T6 California Beach, and then after 5 years we upgraded to our current van, our Hymer Free S 600. We continue to enjoy travelling and visiting some amazing places. You can check out our latest videos and adventures here on the channel !

Please remember and hit SUBSCRIBE! if this is your thing ! We try to make videos to share the good and bad of where we have been and some tips and tricks that we have learnt along the way, as well as reviews of some of the things we have bought to use whilst camping and places we have visited and stayed.

Remember, We believe that buying a Campervan was one of the best things we have ever done !!!

    1. Thinking of driving to the Alps instead of flying?
Ask anything below — route, costs, packing, winter driving — I’ll answer everyone 👍

Be sure to subscribe for the Next episode: living at the campsite & getting to the slopes 🚠

    2. Another great video, hopefully you can sort the waste pipe, I suppose as a temporary measure you could place a bucket underneath the pipe. As we don't like being cold, we would not do that trip, but we are off to Annecy in the summer
