When Family Travel DOESN’T Go To Plan!

We set out to travel from Langkawi in Malaysia to Hua Hin in Thailand without flying, travelling over land and sea with our two young children. What we expected to be a straightforward journey quickly became something very different.

Delays, unexpected stops, and plans falling apart meant we had to slow down, adapt, and stay longer in Hat Yai than planned. Travelling with kids wasn’t the hardest part. Letting go of control was.

This video isn’t a guide or an itinerary.
It’s about what happens when long-term travel doesn’t go smoothly.
About discomfort, patience, and choosing to keep moving anyway.

    If you’ve ever wondered:

Is travelling with kids really that hard?

What happens when long-term travel plans fall apart?

Is overland travel in South East Asia possible as a family?

What slow travel actually feels like, not just how it looks…

    This journey might resonate.

We’re documenting our family’s long-term travel through South East Asia, sharing the real moments, not just the highlights. The pauses. The waiting. The unexpected parts that end up meaning the most.

    Thanks for being here 🤍

    1. Not too long ago, I’ve travelled this route as well, though I’ve not been to Langkawi yet. Anyway, it’s good to see your kids coping quite well with all the travelling.

    2. Oh wow! Another adventurous episode, abeit with lovely scenes and positivity. I love most empathy that is shown from your family, especially the understanding that Stanley was able to grasp at his so very young age. You are both wonderful parents. May god ease your travels and keep you all well.❤

    3. The real test of patience is traveling with kids! Easy to go with the flow but add kids asking when + why …lol really puts patience into practice. We are so lucky to be able to adventure with them! Enjoy your travels!! Stanley and Margo have really learned to go with the flow! My 3 kids are learning to lol. We left Koh Lipe + Langkawi last week and are heading to Hua Hin today. 👍

    4. Be grateful that the rides just make Miss Margot sleep. Lol..All of the rides make our Miss Mira sick 🤪 She finally is willing to take pills (gravol) but past few yrs we’ve had some awkward rides with her gripping a ziploc the whole way 😅
