Train through the sea RE6 from Hamburg to Westerland (Sylt), Germany’s most northern railway station

Sylt is a popular destunation in Germany and the train is by far the best way to go here. Even though you find some long distance trains from and to Westerkand in Sylt, the regional trains are by far the more common option and these regional trains are pretty good. In this video we’ll be taking a regional train (line RE6) from Hamburg Altona railway station via Niebüll, where you find connecting trains on a very regional line to Denmark, to Westerland at the island of Sylt, this is Germany’s most northern railway station.

Trainline is great within serval European countries, you can also purchase several railpasses on the Trainline website. Please do note that especially local regional offers can be better deals, however for easy point to point tickets I personally really prefer Trainline. This link will only be published at the moment Trainline can be used for the video that you see and in most video’s I also mention booking websites / tips.

    1. Hamburg (and Berlin in 1920) as we know it today was put together of several cities and communities by the Austrian painter in 1937. Altona – Wandsbek – Harburg were the larger ones of them.
The reason why there are, different to most other cities, also multiple city centers.

    2. Thanks for this. I've been thinking about a trip to the German Frisian islands, so this has been a helpful prompt.
By the way, if passengers wish to place their bags on a seat when it's busy, they should buy a second ticket. I really dislike having to ask people to move their baggage so I can sit down. Selfish.

    3. Currently the trains are getting a refurbishment with new floors, seat covers, more power outlets, wifi, and a new livery on the outside with the typical blue NAH.SH design. There's quite a lot of them already back in service now!

    4. While the destination (Sylt) is now right at the border to Denmark (the border used to be farther north pre WW1), Hamburg-Altona, where RE6 starts, used to be Denmark's largest City and port, besides Copenhagen.

And the Frisians, were/are a people living along the North Sea coast, from the Netherlands (West Frisians), to Germany and Denmark (East- and North Frisians).

      Such a culturally mixed Land.

    5. Please believe me when I say how much I miss being a European. I am British, I am English, I am and always will be a proud European. Please never allow the dark forces that are at work in the world today to succeed. Enjoy life in Europe for what it is amazing, wonderful and so, so, so fulfilling. Only love, hope you can eventually forgive us for the harm done by idiots and easily duped phone-staring morons.
