Cab Ride Luras → Tempio Pausania (Trenino Verde, Sardinia – Italy, July 2025) driver’s view 4K

In this video you can enjoy the cab ride – train driver’s view from Luras to Tempio Pausania on the famous Trenino Verde in Sardinia – Italy in 4K/60 frames per second.

Step back in time on a nostalgic cab-view journey from Luras to Tempio Pausania aboard the famous Trenino Verde in Sardinia, one of Italy’s most charming historic railway experiences. This short but scenic run follows part of the former Palau–Tempio narrow-gauge railway, today operated for tourism, crossing about 11 km of track through the Gallura region, surrounded by cork oak forests, granite hills shaped by the wind, and quiet rural landscapes. The line dates back to the late 19th century and is now travelled with restored vintage rolling stock, including classic Breda carriages from the 1930s hauled by historic locomotives, preserving the atmosphere of traditional Sardinian rail travel. Along the way the train passes small stations such as Nuchis and runs through tunnels, bridges and rocky cuttings before reaching the historic town of Tempio Pausania at the foot of Monte Limbara. Filmed entirely from the driver’s cab with natural sound only, this video offers a rare and relaxing look at one of Europe’s most authentic heritage railways — a perfect slow-travel experience for railway enthusiasts and lovers of scenic routes alike.

    2. Beautiful! But the Sardinia Region should invest in upgrading the infrastructure. Perhaps reopening the entire line, if not to regular traffic, at least to tourist traffic.

    3. Thanks for this masterpiece video. It's a shame the line is in this condition btw, not too long ago there were still daily historic round trips between Sassari and Palau, it's really sad now only 11kms are available…

    4. What are those bit of rail for standing next to the tracks? And what is it with the driver and the throttle going up and down constantly. Can't he just find a speed and stick to it?

    5. In 1921, the Monti-Tempio line, along with the entire SFSS network, was transferred to the Ferrovie Complementari della Sardegna (Complementary Railways of Sardinia). Also in the 1920s, it was decided to implement the idea of connecting Sassari to Tempio and Palau, using the almost 11 km long stretch of the Monti-Tempio line already existing from Tempio to Luras.

The Monti-Tempio line was created at the initiative of the Strada Ferrate Secondarie della Sardegna (Secondary Railways of Sardinia) in the late 19th century, to connect Gallura and Limbara with the Cagliari-Golfo Aranci line of the Ferrovie Reali (Royal Railways) as part of the Sardinian secondary network project[1], particularly with regard to the connection to the Gallura ports[1]. Among the economic reasons that drove the SFSS to build the line was, above all, the transport of cork[1][2], which was produced in large quantities in the area.

The railway, a single-track, non-electrified line with a gauge of 950 mm and based on a project by engineer Emilio Olivieri[3], started from Tempio Pausania, then reached Nuchis, Luras and Calangianus, and from there proceeded south until it joined the Dorsale Sarda at the Ferrovie Reali station in Monti.

The nearly 40 km of railway was inaugurated on 15 February 1888[4][5], and the Monti-Tempio was the first public narrow-gauge line to enter service on the island, along with the Cagliari-Isili[5], inaugurated on the same day. As with the rest of the Sardinian railway network at the time, trains were propelled by steam locomotives, but for the Monti-Tempio this remained the only type of traction used for the seventy years in which this railway was active[6]. Initially, the railway was supposed to use the Ferrovie Reali station in Monti (as also happened in Sassari with the line to Alghero)[7], but due to some bureaucratic problems, the SFSS built their own station on the northern side of the Monti railway area. However, once an agreement was reached between the two companies, the Reali station (which had passed to FS in 1920) also became the reference station for the line to Tempio[3] and the SFSS station remained active only for service purposes.

The Sassari-Tempio and Luras-Palau sections were inaugurated on 16 November 1931[4] and 18 January 1932[4] respectively by another company, the Società anonima Ferrovie Settentrionali Sarde (FSS), with which the FCS jointly managed the shared section from Tempio to Luras (the FSS was succeeded in 1933 by the Strade Ferrate Sarde and in 1989 by the Ferrovie della Sardegna). On 1 April 1935, the FCS station at Tempio was also closed[8][9], moving trains to the nearby Strade Ferrate Sarde station, which became the railway's new terminus.

In 1941, the line, along with the Sassari-Alghero line, was transferred to Strade Ferrate Sarde[4], already the majority shareholder of FCS, as part of a process that brought all the secondary lines in northern Sardinia under the control of SFS.

    7. Ovo je fantasticno. Veliki sam zaljubljenik Italije, posebno Sicilije i Sardinije. Prekrasna zemlja, sa odlicnom kulturom, klimom, hranom, muzikom, ljudima… ♥
