Guide Rail returns! For a month… Here is a scaled down insight into Miniatur Wunderland, the world’s biggest indoor model railway, in Hamburg Germany. This is somewhere I’ve heard about and wanted to visit for many years, so I’ll tell you my genuine thoughts of what it was like and show you every miniature land in both day and night!
I have also made a Terrier Travels vlog with more to-camera clips and everything not seen in this video, but I thought it best to put this out as a stand-alone Guide Rail special since it was clearly filmed in the snow!

To answer the question how they keep stuff running: tracks, trainsy, cars, planes, and ships are mostly handcrafted, with the specific focus on durability. The bridges and buildings are also handcrafted. Some of it ofc are model kits, but whenever they renew something, they phase out the old plastic kits because they become flimsy over time and fall apart easily, and replace with new buildings that they design themselves and produce via 3D printing and other means.
The Formula 1 course in Monaco is probably the most ingenious thing there. They worked a decade or so on it. They wanted real races, with drivers in different conditions, and all that, so that no two races would be the same. It's all done via special and highly expensive custom PCB-boards that generate magnetic fields. It's absolutely insane.
That's why the Wunderland is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Germany. You can feel the love, passion, and dedication they pour into these projects in every single corner of that layout.
Some other dudes in Berlin tried to outdo them in 2009 or something. They failed miserably. Barely got of the ground.
And ofc lots of rich folk tried to buy them out – unsuccessfully. Freddy and Gerrit Braun, the founders, are committed to seeing their dream through to the end.
Glad to hear this place is still around. I remember first hearing about it from James May's Toy Stories
If you go to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, I highly recommend visiting Little Canada, the Canadian equivalent of Miniatur Wunderland. Thomas and Theodore Tugboat are even there.

You should see Kolejkowo in Silesia Poland. There are some towns, wild west etc. And a lot of easter eggs. There is even rain mehanic.
