We Tested 4 Towns in Southern France — Where We’d Stay Longer

No car. No advance booking. One apartment for three months — and four towns we tested to figure out which ones were actually worth staying longer. New to our story? Start from the beginning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUCnnhlKYk0&list=PL4kGiHocVcCi9MpqmybLDHk1F28MLmjqB&index=1

    What’s Inside This Episode

Before we arrived we made a list of towns we wanted to see and sorted them by how far they were from Sète — because that one thing determines everything. A few hours, a full day, or two nights. Regional trains here mean you open the app, pick a departure time, pay, and go. No booking in advance, no penalties for changing your mind.

Some surprised us more than others. We cover what each trip cost for two people, how we decided between a day trip and an overnight, and which ones changed our plans.

Toulouse — two nights, First Name Hotel on Hyatt points, sixteen dollars and eighty-two cents out of pocket. We’d go back. Possibly for longer.

Béziers — twenty minutes by train, forty-nine dollars and seventy cents round trip for two. This one made the long list.

Avignon — an hour and a half out, eighty-seven dollars and seven cents round trip. We’re going back. That says enough.

Nîmes — unplanned, a plumbing issue that turned into one of the best trips of the three months. This one surprised us most. It’s on the list.

One base. Trains everywhere. The list got shorter. The decisions got clearer.

    1. I liked all 3 of these places too. (Beziers, Toulouse, Avignon)Only got to stop in Avignon for 2 hours on my way “home” from Nice, but the Palais is interesting & the town is really cute. SE France is spoiled for choices.

    2. Love to know when you explore going EAST on the Mediterranean …as I think being away from the South would be too cold…weather is an issue..too humid? hot? too cold? Goldilocks here:)
