FED UP With Touring? Thinking About A DRONE – York Meadows Pt 3/3

In the last of our videos from our visit to York Meadows Caravan Park we look at an alternative to touring and have a play with a DJI Neo 2 drone. Thank you to David @VandromedasTravels for the drone footage.

    1. Good video Bob. I love a static caravan! Just back from a week in Beer Head Caravan Park, Devon in an 8 berth Swift Ardennes 2025 model. 3 bedrooms, an en suite bathroom and 2nd bathroom. Was very comfortable and so spacious ..well it was only me rattling around in it! 😂

    2. Those statics are bigger than my bungalow (nearly). Thanks for showing us around Bob,Jenny and Poppy. That drone was so much fun to watch. Safe travels. See you on the next.

    3. If I could find a piece of land I could put a static on and live in it together with having the big camper van, it would be a great combination of a base plus travel van. My only concern with holiday parks and statics is all the bad press of people having bad experiences with the leasehold aspects, later regretting it and finding it hard to sell the unit for anything like they'd paid for it. So, yes, I like the static setups but I'm more a freehold kinda mind.

    4. Done both over the years Bob, but you can't beat touring! Jenny took the words out of mouth as they say when she said about your problem ceiling and thought about one of those!😅❤

    5. Hi Bob and Jenny,
We’ve had two Motorhomes over the past 8 years, we opted to buy a touring caravan in 2024 and place it on a seasonal pitch in north wales, we kept the tourer for 18 months, we liked the site (which is a working farm) and the people and the owners and the beautiful views, we have made so many friends on the caravan park we decided to buy a static caravan last July, we have never looked back.
There where quite a few reasons for our decisions over the years, one was the ever increasing overnight stay costs plus fuel, another was travelling time etc, we are so happy with our static and it’s only an hour and half away.

    6. Static’s are surprisingly civilised. We risked it and bought one and love it. Key though is the right park, siting aspect, privacy and large decking. There are two build specifications a BS and a EN. The BS is residential spec and has walls 100mm thick.

    7. After 25 years with our touring van we decided to buy a static. Had it for 4 years, then got itchy feet to be on the road again. They are lovely & the room is amazing. Down side, you don't get anything back for them, not even half the money back. We did okay because we'd had double glazing put in. ( going back a good few years ago !)

    8. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay, and playing with the gear – have to say, you took to the Neo 2 like ducks to water! Cracking edits, too!

    9. Those statics are nice but I don’t get it. A house stays put in one place so does a static. I don’t get being in one place and how that’s nice. A motorhome offers freedom ❤

    10. I really enjoyed the video. I think a static caravan is something that we might consider once our caravan touring days are over. Just heard that when you sell you can lose money as they don't keep their value so that puts me off a little..

    11. The biggest issue with them is the ground rents. I had a static at Primrose Valley and Bourne Leisure ran me a merry dance with their customer service. The idea sounds great but they are just burden in my view! Don't forget to check out the new drone laws if you are considering getting one, you DO NEED an operator licence from the CAA if it has a camera and is over 100kg (not a toy) but this does not allow you to fly abroad – you need European licenses for that (if in Europe). Thanks for sharing the video.

    12. Hi bob Jenny and poppy lovely statics you looked at X we have had tent's x two statics and now on Tuesday we are picking up our 4th motorhome brand new one 2026 X we had loads of problems with last motorhome and after my husband had stroke last year it knocked his confidence abit X so we decided to buy new one and get out there and do some touring X take care xxx

    13. Hi Bob and Jenny. If you buy a static caravan you have to be prepared to keep it for the full term of the lease which in our case was 15 years. We have just traded it in for a five year old static that came available on site and the annual depreciation over the time that we had the old was £2000./year. Obviously there are other significant costs such as site fees, rates, insurance etc. However, the difficult bit is finding he right site in the right location.

    14. After many years of tents, caravans, motorhomes then back to caravans and back to motorhomes we have now had a static caravan in the cairngorm national park for the past 2 years. Love it. Thinking we might get a VW camper to have as a day van for the trips out with the dog and the bikes.

    15. Love to get a static built the grounds rents are so expensive. But never know, if we find somewhere we really like and keep going back to then we might. Great drone footage 😊 never stayed at York meadows as we always stay at Sherif Hutton site when we’re in Yorkshire and eat at the Highway man. ❤

    16. Hi Bob and Jenny, we enjoyed looking around the static vans, they are very well furnished aren't they. Stayed in a few over the years. Are you getting a drone now Bob, enjoyed watching you having a go and the drone following you both, take care x Julie and Tony x

    17. I was looking at a site online recently and noticed they had new and pre loved statics for sale. They looked great until I saw the annual charges 😮. They would easily add up to more than our touring costs for the year, well over £10k! The drone was incredible.

    18. Hi Bob and Jenny. We looked at some statics (just to be nosey) a few years ago on Cayton Bay Holiday Park which was selling new ones , and spoke to the head salesman. Apparently many statics have only a one year warranty !!! Consequently I think we would look at getting a seasonal pitch for our tourer if we ever got tired of towing. It would avoid many of the pitfalls of a static and the tourer could be moved to a different site each season rather than having to go to the same location year after year.

    19. We are completing on a Static in a weeks time. Our van had a damp issue and is currently being repaired. We had originally decided to confine ourselves to Britain this year, returning to our favourite places, then with our big 7-0 birthdays decide next year on whether to carry on. However an important health issue for my wife was diagnosed last month and we decided to bring the decision forward. We are both excited at our purchase in the Lake District, a place we have consistently visited every year in the van, and are looking forward to a relaxing and comfortable lifestyle. We’ve enjoyed our time touring here and in Europe, it was one of our best decisions to go into motorhoming 12 years ago. Looking forward to our new holiday style!

    20. Great video Bob and Jenny and enjoyed the drone walk! I am torn to be honest i grew up with my parents owning statics and was great having somewhere to go every year but the ground rents were unbelievable and i think its great having the flexibility of a motorhome or campervan and ability to go different places amazing how they have all come on over the years in design and features Daniel

    21. Stayed in a few statics over the years. Heard a few horror stories of those that bought them without fully understanding what they were signing up to.

    22. The expenses of diesel and site chargers are getting more expensive we are thinking of getting a static the places we have seen have lakes the gardens around are kept an high standard with a whole year gardener the flower beds are beautiful with a pun/ Restaurant all year around a permanent Holiday
