Taormina is a hilltop town perched 250 metres above the Ionian Sea in eastern Sicily, Italy. Founded by the ancient Greeks around 358 BC, it is one of the most visited destinations in the Mediterranean. The Teatro Antico di Taormina — originally built by the Greeks in the 3rd century BC and later expanded by the Romans — is one of the best-preserved ancient theatres in the world, with a spectacular backdrop of both the sea and Mount Etna.
