Skipping Bordeaux Might Be the Biggest Mistake of Your France Trip
Skipping Bordeaux might be the biggest mistake of your trip to France, especially if you want a France itinerary that feels more balanced, refined, and genuinely enjoyable to experience.
In this episode, I’m sharing why Bordeaux is one of my favorite destinations in France and why so many travelers underestimate what it actually offers beyond wine. From the elegant atmosphere of the city itself to places like Saint-Émilion, the Médoc, Arcachon, Cap Ferret, and Dune du Pilat, Bordeaux gives you access to an entirely different side of France that many U.S. travelers never experience.

Fabulous! Was Bordeaux already on your France itinerary, or did it never really feel essential until now?
I agree with you. I had a wonderful time in Bordeaux, and it's been cleaned up a lot since Juppé was mayor. It's a great place to stroll in.
Here are some other possible destinations: Strasbourg, Lyon, Rennes, Quimper.
I agree a 100%. Bordeaux is quite clean and generally quite safe. A great place to stroll and have a meal.
People could also add Lyon (the old town), Strasbourg and to some extent Quimper and Rennes.
