Ancient Stone Streets by the River | Cajarc, France 4K Walking Tour
Cajarc sits beside the River Lot in Occitanie, southern France, a medieval market town where the streets hold 800 years of history. It was granted a free commune charter in 1256, and it is the quiet birthplace of Françoise Sagan, author of Bonjour Tristesse. This is our 4K walking tour, filmed with natural ambient sound and no narration. A perfect travel guide or a peaceful escape at home.
Our walk begins on the 1842 suspension bridge, one of the oldest on the River Lot, replacing a crossing first built in 1320 and destroyed during the Hundred Years’ War. We cross into the Barri Neuf, a 14th-century quarter built outside the town walls for river traders, before following the towpath past riverside allotments to the Chapelle des Mariniers. This chapel has origins in the 12th century and was built on a raised mound to sit above the river’s flood level. Back in the medieval center, we pass the Hébrardie, a 14th-century palace whose windows are classified as Historic Monuments and weave through the Impasse des Orfèvres, the medieval Goldsmiths’ Alley. We reach the Église Saint-Étienne, rebuilt in stages from the 12th century onward, before ending at the 1886 railway station, a classified Historic Monument where a vintage carriage still rests quietly on the platform.
We are Michelle and Charlie. After some difficult years and ongoing health challenges, we found real comfort in slow travel. We started filming these peaceful walks to share that feeling with others, and the warm response from viewers has become a meaningful part of our own journey.
