Just wanted to share some pictures of Chilao camp ground, I went this week Monday night to Tuesday morning, it's a first come first serve campground in los Angeles national forest: $20 a night, cannot reserve in advance, on a Monday day I went @ 1130am and I was the first one there, so many empty sites (not sure how the weekend is). It's about a 1 hour and 10 minute drive from DTLA. The weather was high 81, lows 64. Also went to vetter mountain fire lookout which was just a 5 min drive from the campground and had a beautiful fire lookout with a panoramic view of the forest. They allow fires, and each campsite has a pit area for fires, but they don't have bear boxes so keep that in mind. Restrooms have no running water.

Very nice. Thanks for sharing and also have a wonderful evening

  2. I’ve driven in and checked it out several times over the years. I’ve been up there to pack snow in a cooler for my kids but for one reason or another I still haven’t camped at chilao. Buckhorn, Guffy and lupine were my go to’s. I wonder if we’ll ever get to see buckhorn open again? Does anyone know of lupine and Guffy survived the fires last year?
