MUNICH, Germany – 4K Travel Walk in the Old Town

Hello friends! Today we are in Altstadt (Old Town) of Munich. The name of the town came from 12th-century monastic settlement named zu den Munchen (“to the monks”). The structure of the Old Town came from the 12th century with the construction of the gates and defensive walls.

Munich was in a period of political unrest and was the center of the Nazi movement in the early 20th century. The NS-Dokumentationszentrum (Munich Documentation Centre for the History of National Socialism) gives a thorough, thoughtful and frightening look at the history of the rise and actions of the Nazi party. The city was heavily bombed during WWII. Post war reconstruction maintained most of the original street layouts.

In present days, Munich is consistently ranked among the happiest major cities in the world, due to its high quality of life, cultural scene, and public facilities. Having the best beers and a plethora of biergartens help! Tourist know Munich for it’s architecture, beer and Oktoberfest; but the it is also a major centre for science, technology, finance and innovation.

Let’s walk the lively streets of the Old Town. There is so much more to Munich than what I can show in the video, but I hope it inspires a visit or evokes a good memory. The walk was recorded on May, 2025.
