Cycling from a WWII Bunker to Europe’s Niagara Falls

From the heavy history of WWII bunkers in France to the roaring power of Europe’s largest waterfall, this leg of the journey was all about the contrast between man-made ruins and the raw force of nature.

The ride begins just outside of Strasbourg where I explore the silent concrete bunker of the Maginot Line. These bunkers serve as a stark reminder of the region’s past before the path turns south, following the Rhine toward the Swiss border. The transition from the quiet French countryside to the rolling landscape of Switzerland eventually leads to the magnificent Rhine Falls, often called the Niagara of Europe.

I am currently documenting this long-distance bicycle tour across Europe, focusing on the history, the scenery, and the “slow” pace of life on two wheels. On this trip, I’m riding my old Koga Miyata and using my small camera setup to capture the scale of the landscapes as I move toward the mountains.
