Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your visit to the Palace of Versailles:
    1. Buy your tickets online well in advance. Tickets do sell out, especially during the busy summer months.
    2. Versailles is 18 km west of central Paris. Today, it is a wealthy suburb of Paris. Several companies offer day trips to Versailles from central Paris. Alternatively, you can take a commuter train from central Paris to Versailles and save yourself some money.
    3. I would not recommend driving to Versailles as parking is limited and quite expensive.
    4. Touring the palace is relatively straight forward as the crowds flow in only one direction. A tour guide, although helpful, is not required.
    5. Allow 3 to 4 hours to tour the Palace and the gardens in the palace grounds. Expect airport type security to enter Versailles.
    6. The palace has a restaurant/cafeteria, but it is expensive and not all that interesting. Best to eat at one of the many restaurants located just outside the palace gates.
    7. Typically, the gardens and grounds are closed during bad weather, such as when there is risk of a thunderstorm or snow in the winter.
