Andrew and Sam are back to chat with Lizzie! Watch as they sit down with Lizzie 18 months after their move from Texas to Bordeaux, now fully settled and the proud owners of a stunning historic apartment.
What does it actually take to buy a property in France as an American? Is it easy? In this episode of Real French Connections, Lizzie reconnects with Andrew and Sam, two Texans who first appeared on the channel when they arrived in Bordeaux as renters. Now they’ve made it official, purchasing a beautiful apartment in the heart of the city, originally built for Bordeaux’s historic wine merchants.
They walk through the entire process of buying property in France from finding a trusted broker to sitting with the notary, and explain how it differs from buying property in the US. They also open up about building a real life here: finding community, navigating daily life in French, and the moment the city stopped feeling like Disneyland and started feeling like home.
Watch as Andrew and Sam talk about:
Advice on how they found their broker and navigated the French property buying process
– How their French has improved and why it’s changed their whole experience of living here
– How they’ve made friends with other people in Bordeaux
– What life is REALLY like nearly 2 years later
Whether you’re dreaming of a move to France or already planning one, Andrew and Sam’s story is one of the most honest and warm accounts of what that journey really looks like.

What a beautiful house! 😍
We are in Dallas and want to head to France in a couple of years. Your home is amazing.
I enjoy how credible this channel is. These interviews with people who have gone through the enormous experience of country and cultural changes are very encouraging. And knowing that French Connections HCB helped them with that journey is somehow reassuring for others who are considering this kind of move.
Thank you, Andrew, for steering me off the tram at just the right moment when I visited Bordeaux.😊
I work in the wine industry and have meetings several times per year with Bordeaux wine negociants. The majority still have their offices in beautiful old properties in the Chartrons, and I can attest to how fabulous those buildings are. The whole quartier is lovely, vibrant and easily walkable. Sam and Andrew did very well to secure a home there, and I'm sure they will continue to live happily there with their cats. A great video, thanks.

Please advocate for direct flights from DC to Bordeaux. Connections are terrible. Thank you.
we finally bought a house just now after 7 years here as residence. I love hearing the stories, so thank you for sharing.
Inspired by your video last year, my husband and I went to Bordeaux in April and loved it. Was hoping we’d run into them, but sadly, no.
