The Normandy region of France is famous for its charming coastal towns along the English Channel, and Honfleur certainly sits at the top of the list. Here I take a series of walks through its cobbled streets during different parts of the day & night, to give a sense of the different atmospheres. Thanks for watching!

The evening pictures in Honfleur are hauntingly beautiful. The contrast of the wet pavement and the primary colors (mostly yellow) emanating from the inside of the various shops and restaurants is just stunning. I have been to Honfleur but only in the daytime. I really missed something beautiful!

Birthplace of the great composer Erik Satie, of Trois Gymnopedies fame. The house he grew up in is now a museum to him. Was hoping it might be featured in the vid.

Is it that Americans only build towns like this in Disneyland? America steel skyscraper buildings and big box stores are austere corporate fantasylands in themselves. Do corportions have a monopoly on everything in America? Capitalism seems very similar to Communism, except the population doesn't own anything, or benefit from high prices, only CEOs who run the government actually do, as in Communism.

Nothing interesting happens during the daylight; granted; autopsies require light, investigations require light & surgeries require light however, everything interesting happens in the half-light or by moonlight. Theatres dim the lights before the balletic, cinematic or operatic experience for a reason; we live in darkness … the commune of Honfleur under candle.light’s infinitely more interesting than the commune of Honfleur under sunlight; the amber infusion creates an ambiance where shadows accentuate subject, inviting us into the vignette, streetlamps cast off secrets, shining a light upon the absence of light … whether it’s Caravaggio with ‘The Entombment of Christ’, deLaTour with ‘Magdalene with Two Flames’ or Rembrandt with ‘The Nightwatch’; Life is lived in the shadows. Burne-Jones’ ‘Love Leading the Pilgrim’ showcases Love leading the Pilgrim from the brambles, from the darkness into the light … maybe Life should be experienced under the cover of darkness & the unbearable, unbreakable light is heavily over-rated.
