Really enjoyed Dakar NOLA. The food was excellent, and what I liked most was how clearly the West African influence came through in a Louisiana setting. The shrimp and rice courses were probably my favorites, and the meal made some of the connections behind Creole cooking feel very immediate.
Service was a little uneven. The host was great, but at one point the guy pouring water somehow managed to splash some onto my neck, followed up with essentially a quick “oops, so sorry,” and kept moving. (Just find it kind of funny on recollection.)
Overall, a distinctive meal, and one that feels genuinely rooted in New Orleans and can be served nowhere else.

One of my favorite restaurants in the country for all the reasons you named. It’s completely infused with the character of the city.
