Everything you need for the perfect vacation by the water
The first impression is fascinating. The light lapping of the waves on the shore and the intensity of the turquoise color of the lake attract you irresistibly. You are well in Bönigen and Iseltwald. Both villages are located just a few minutes from Interlaken, on the shores of Lake Brienz. Two mountain ranges with green forests and meadows as well as the imposing peaks are reflected on the surface of the water. Many adventures await you on the water, from the jet boat to the steamboat, passing by the kayak. Fans of water fun and nature lovers are in paradise here. The central location is ideal for excursions in the Jungfrau region and around the lake.

Fishing village in an idyllic bay

Iseltwald is the only village on the left bank of Lake Brienz. Nestled in a small bay, this fishing village invites relaxation and tasting. You can treat yourself there with fresh fish, on a terrace or in the panoramic restaurant, always with a view of the lake and the mountains. The peninsula with the pretty Seeburg castle and the small “Schnäggeninseli” complete this romantic picture. Here you will enjoy the living force of the waters: kayaking, surfing, swimming – you are spoiled for choice

Iseltwald is also the ideal starting point for a hike to the impressive and refreshing Giessbach Falls. Right next to the historic Grandhotel Giessbach, they flow in a great tumult into Lake Brienz. After a nice hike or a trip with the “Lötschberg” steamer, you can let your mind wander on the beach.

Seeburg Castle: On the Seeburg peninsula was the Hotel Belvedere. a Bernese merchant named Gottfried Siegrist bought the building and had it dismantled and rebuilt at the entrance to the village. He then built the current building around 1907.

The picturesque little island called Schnäggeninseli rises a short distance from the shore.

The town’s boarding pontoon, a key location in the South Korean television series Crash Landing on You, has been attracting many tourists since the early 2020s

The village was first mentioned in 1146 as Iseltwalt. After a dispute with Interlaken over the important forest, all rights from Iseltwald went to Interlaken in 1303. In 1342 Iseltwald was devastated by the Unterwaldners. With the secularization of the Interlaken monastery in 1528, the village came to Bern and to the Interlaken bailiwick. In addition to fishing, fruit growing, livestock and alpine farming, a glassworks offered additional work in 1680. However, this went out again around 1715.

Tourism began in 1871 with the advent of shipping on Lake Brienz. Hotels and hospitality emerged. Today, mainly day tourists stay in Iseltwald. In the South Korean TV series Crash Landing on You, Iseltwald appears in a few episodes
