SUBSCRIBE: – Let’s visit one of the most ancient Buddhist temples in Vientiane, the capital of LAOS in SE Asia.Wat Si Muang or Simuong was built in 1563 and it is located near the eastern entrance to the city centre, on the road leading from the Friendship Bridge to Thailand. It was built on the ruins of a Khmer Empire Hindu shrine.Inside, the temple is unusual in being divided into two rooms. The front room is usually quiet, with monks on hand to give blessings. The rear room houses the large main altar, with numerous statues and images of the Buddha. I visited on a very busy and crowded day, here is what I saw and recorded from this incredibly colorful culture..
Laos is a Southeast Asian country traversed by the Mekong River and known for mountainous terrain, French colonial architecture, hill tribe settlements and Buddhist monasteries. Vientiane, the capital, is the site of the That Luang monument, where a reliquary reportedly houses the Buddha’s breastbone, plus the Patuxai war memorial and Talat Sao (Morning Market), a complex jammed with food, clothes and craft stalls.
