    Eguisheim
Eguisheim is an essential stopover during your stay in Alsace!

Located at the southern exit of Colmar, Eguisheim has been ranked among “One of the Most Beautiful Villages in France” since 2003 and won the title of “Favorite Village of the French” in 2013 during the France 2 program presented by Stéphane Bern.

This medieval village appeals for its modest size, its unique architecture, its profusion of flowers in summer, but also for its authentic charm during Christmas time when many activities are offered around the Christmas market.

Eguisheim draws its claim to fame from its architectural ensemble, preserved from the ravages of history and intelligently preserved.
Built around its castle, this medieval city unfolds in concentric circles. You will discover in this original village, fountains, colonial courtyards and a church housing a “Opening Virgin” from the 13th century.

It will be good to stroll along the alleys and thus admire the colorful palette of the houses whose very old inscriptions on the door lintels you will be able to decipher.

Ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France since 2003 and voted Favorite Village of the French in 2013, Eguisheim will delight you with its picturesque and enchanting setting. Your walk will take you to its authentic historic center and its famous vineyard. Finally, the unique atmosphere of its many animations throughout the year will make your visit to Eguisheim an exceptional moment.

This village on the Wine Route, ranked among the most beautiful in France, is built with streets laid out in concentric circles all around its castle. It is pleasant to stroll through the cobbled streets full of beautiful old half-timbered houses with wooden windows and balconies adorned with geraniums. The central square is also magnificent with its fountain, the castle of Eguisheim and the colorful Saint-Léon-IX chapel. Around Eguisheim, the Dungeons of Eguisheim, the Château du Hohlandsbourg and the Dungeons of Pflixbourg.
National grand prize of flowering since 1989, classified the One of the Most Beautiful Villages of France in 2003, gold medal of the European competition of the Entente Florale in 2006… This cradle of the Alsatian vineyards, wrapped in concentric circles and multicolored around his castle, no longer his titles of nobility.

Eguisheim, historic city: In the year 720, Count Eberhard, Duke of Alsace and nephew of St. Odile, built his castle which still occupies the center of town and it is from this line was born in 1002 in this same Castle one of the noblest son of Alsace, this reformer Pope St. Leo IX, promoter of the god of truce, whose memory is kept piously here. Nevermind wars, devastation which this town was the victim and the issue over time. The presence on the hill, near a stone’s throw from the ruins of the three castles of Eguisheim say enough what could be, in these harsh times, the lives of peasant growers suddenly leaving the plow or the gouge to take shelter in their enclosure. Once past the age of boiling pitch and molten lead, the village was fortified and this is what gives it its original appearance: concentric streets around the castle, the facades of three layers arranged in outside and drilled loopholes. This does not prevent Eguishiens caring lovingly planted land of vineyards and fruit trees. For the virtues inherent in this region are summed up entirely in the humanism of the vine and wine.
