Foreigners worldwide visit Prague Czech Republic, and Poland due to its rich history and unique culture. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience in Prague due to what I believe, is its preexisting history of scams and scammers.
I didn’t feel welcome in the Czech Republic and sadly left the country after just 24 hours in Prague, and it made me realise how well I was treated in Poland. In this video, I share my honest story of travelling to Poland and the Czech Republic as a foreigner (black guy) in Central Europe.

The problem with Prague is that its overtouristed like Barcelona or Venice. I think people are more open in Olomouc or Plzen.
In Krakow glowny (central station)(Poland) i once tried to get a train ticket, in Dvur Kralove Zoo (Czech republic) i tried to get an entrance ticket. Both places the staff was oh you only speak english, not my language – I don't get money enough to speak a foreign language (the ticket seller said this to her colleague in czech at Dvur Kralov Zoo)
So sorry to hear you had a terrible day in Prague. But the country has other cities to offer.
After the collapse of Austria-Hungary, most of the industry remained in the Czech Republic, the Second World War, the Czech Republic was not destroyed like Poland, where most of it was destroyed and stolen by the Germans and Russians!
Sorry you felt so badly about the Czech Republic. They are actually a nice people, although lately I have the impression that they are behaving more and more badly. We Poles have always been very fond of them, but they have always made fun of us. I recently saw a video of a Czech on a visit to Gdańsk and he behaved terribly – he even made fun of the sound for the disabled at a pedestrian crossing. Maybe it was their kind of sense of humour that I didn't understand, but I found his behaviour strange. A bit like a russian idiot who is surprised that things are better in our country than in his and has to criticise and ridicule everything. I somehow do not understand such behaviour. Anyway, strange people, ill-mannered people, fools and assholes are everywhere. The more touristic a place is, the more such people who want to deceive or take advantage of someone rather than help. Anyway, you are welcome to visit Poland again and I hope you will also have nice memories.
There's some Czech dude on Youtube exposing currency scams for years. On the other hand, I've met some really nice guy in rural part, very helpful, he gave me some groceries as all stores were closed on Sunday and he didn't want to hear about any payment.
It's not smart to generalise, but even in politics they are trying to scam Poland into closing neighbouring power plant (in cooperation with Germany as they are trying to destroy their neighbour economically), while their mines and power plants are to blame for environmental disaster in this region, so that says something xD I'm drawing this out, a bit simplified and seemingly unrelated, for a broader context as some nations are just like that. Blame state propaganda or mutual scars between different societies, whatever – there's always a reason and deeper meaning in everything.
Yes, food is better there and their cities were not torn down to the ground during the war, so Prague is really beautiful.
Bro most of the people in the center aren't Czechs😅 It's really international, and we Czechs don't really need to go to the historical center, because tourists took it over.
Well, Prague is definitely overrated, I say it as a Czech citizen. The entire city center is a kind of Disneyland, nothing like an authentic atmosphere was preserved there, and the number of scammers is also high. The number of normal people living in the center of Prague is very, very low, most tenants were expelled in the last decades. So I assume the people you tried to interact with were barely local Czechs. I usually avoid visiting Prague unless necessary and prefer Poland to spend my vacations there. On the other hand, what exactly did you expect? The annoying fake American smiling, the very fake phrase "how are you" while NOBODY wants to know how you are, the shallow "friendships" which disappear the next day? I think this is all about the general difference between peach and coconut psychology. In general, Czechs and Poles are very similar in their psychology and approach, but as I try to speak Polish in Poland, they VERY much appreciate it and are very kind to me.
I thought Czech are more open than us, because poland is concider to be Eastern European and czech are more like western country
Poland, before the war and its participation, was the most multicultural place in the world. Every religion's nationality and skin colour were equal; it was also one of the first countries where simple people got their rights, and the King never owned a single person's life. King wasn't allowed to kill someone just because, like in other western countries, This attitude brings troubles because other nations are afraid of it and invade Poland to stop it. Keep that in mind. There is a lot of respect in Poland for guests.
People from Poland and people from Czech Republic has the same mentiality. Difference between them look like- ppl from Czech Republic are pro Germany and most off them using this language as seccond one. Ppl from Poland are pro USA and using English language as seccond one.
The Chechs have some sort of superiority complex. They used to look down on Poland thinking that it's a country of potato fields only. I went to Prague 16 years ago and now when I watch videos from there nothing really has changed since then. If you brought a Chech person to Warsaw now and he/she saw our skyline they might burst with envy. How come there are glass skyscrapers instead of potato fields, and we haven't finished the construction of the city yet🤣🤣🤣. Anyway, I lived in London for 10 years and moved back to Warsaw after Brexit and when I travel around Poland now it really blows my mind how beautiful and developed our cities have become. You are very welcome in Poland. It's a big country with millions of wonderful, open-minded and warm-hearted people. Don't lose faith in kind and generous people. Lots of Hugs and kisses from Warsaw to You and London😘😘😘
Finally somebody is exposing the truth about Czechs. Passive aggressive cowardliness is their national character trait. When they are not on their knees they are at your throat. Being African only amplifies their impudence. But this is not about race.
Poland loves foreign visitors. It’s safe and welcoming. I hope that you guys will have an amazing experience in Poland❤
I am so in love with Prague because of the beauty of the architecture. People can be kinda distant, but once you get to know them or talk to them in Czech, they turn out to be fantastic people. I see it as a game to make a grumpy Czech smile at me. And if you try, it will work….
Hello mate spread Your knowledge thru all of stupid britons .
Best for you Sheku
I had a similiar experience visiting Prague a couple years ago. Most of the people I tried to interact with turned out to be dicks. 😀 Then again, when I went to Vizovice, everybody was polite and happy to be talked to. So it just may be a Prague thing and not a Czech thing.
Surprised? Don’t be. Poland is not perfect but it is the country on the highest level of spiritual development on this planet.
Prague is way, way different than the rest of the country. I think this sort of contrast can only be observed in France, really. Where people in the capital are sort of cold, posh and those that are not so, are scammy or rude. Same thing happens in the Czech Rep. Once you go to the province, your perception is going to change.
I think Poland is much more uniform in that sense.
That being said I agree with other comments saying that Czechs have some sort of a superiority complex, or small town mentality. Of course not all of them. But they do feel that they are the "Germans of the Slavic people" (even if they would vehemently disagree with this statement) and tend to project their supposed "being civilized" on other nations from the region. They tend to be much more reserved, private, calm and organized than we Poles are. And I presume some of the comments would say that we love the Czechs, and they don't like us, but that's not really the case. The Czechs are AFRAID OF US. To them, we seem utterly unpredictable, uncivilized at times, bigoted, overconfident, and too lavish. They are scared that some of our "craziness" might spill on their tails. That's true, once you get to know the Czech soul a bit more you will notice that. 🙂
Sheku, Poland is a great country of free people, anytime and anywhere. Generous, open and reckless. If you want to be like that, you will always be welcome in Poland! The Czechs had a different experience and it left its mark on them. P.S. Thieves and fraudsters are also in Poland, unfortunately. Greetings from Krakow.👍👍👍
The scammers and picpockets are quite active and skilled in Czech republic. Even traveling here from Romania and some other eastern countries, to make their bags. Problem is, that in the midle of Prague (historical core) most of single black guys you see, are "working" as drug dealers. That might kinda shroud the understanding of reasons, why are you trying to talk to people on the street. Not to mention, in summer, there is more than 95% of people in the historical core actual tourists from different countries.
BTW google maps is trademously helpfull in direction finding, if there is no knowing or willing person around.
in Poland we say that a guest in the house is God in the house
In Poland, brother, you will be treated the best in the world.
PEOPLE still live in Poland!
As I am living on the border with Czech Republic, I can confirm – they are bit untrusty when you start speak, sometimes surprised that you asked them sth.
Poland and Czechia are both hostile towards the foreigners, what is rather typicsl for Slavic/Eastern-Europe, but at least the Poles are friendly towards the tourists, who respect their culture, while the Czechs treat the tourists no different than the immigrants.
I'm Polish and the only time I went to Check Rep. was in 1971, forgot what town but it was not Prague, and with all due respect to my Check neighbors, but was not impressed with peoples vibe there, as if scared or with some king of issue complex, who knows , it was just my personal experience.
"I Was Treated BETTER in Poland than in the Czech Republic" czech people hate everyone except themself, everything is the fault of ukrainians, poles and gypsies, only czechs are blameless in this funny country.
Greetings from Poland!
Hm, I'm supprised. Maybe judging people from Czech Republic by Pragueians is like judging Americans by New Yorkers?
Does the Poland made such an impression on you that you are comparing it constantly to other countries?
I'm Polish and I visited beautiful Prague a couple of years ago. I've experienced the worst customer service ever.
I've learnt one thing though, I've stopped using English and started using Polish, it makes Czech smile and they laugh… seriously
Try speaking Polish in Czech Rep. And you make them smile 😁
I like your channel.I am glad, that – i have found you Sir.Actually: i live in The UK in Cornwall.I am a Polish and i have got my channel about Graphics and i wanted to invite you Sir.
3:59 you must be joking, czechs still use trams that were replaced in Poland. Warsaw metro is also better planed, more spacious with less stairs
The most important thing: to be Honest! – Great respect to you Sir.Thank you for Visiting my country.Polish people are friendly, but – at the same time Very Honest and straightforward.
You go to tourist Disneyland in center of Prague and expect what? You won't meet any native Czechs there, just Russian/Ukrainian/Balkan mafia and fake tourist stuff, local people go there only when they really have to. Everything is destroyed by overtourism and English speaking expats who live there and increasing prices because they still earn UK/US money and live here for cheap, so native people are angry because of that. I think you will have such experiences from most ot places with such overtourism. Also, as a Czech, I felt the same in Vienna, people were not friendly and nobody will help you with anything.
In some other countries, people are vice versa too friendly, which is also annoying, because as a Czech, I am used to that when somoene is trying to help you, he will want money from you, but that happened to me even in Poland. So, it's really weird experience when someone is helping me without asking him and he doesn't want money then, I am not used to it. 😀
When I've been to Vienna, I returned home 2 days sooner than it was planned because we just didn't like it there, in Prague, you just can't stay only in tourist center, that's not actual Prague, that's disneyland for tourists.
I said it several times under other videos, but people, please don't go only to that disneyland in center of Prague, I don't understand why you stay there, it's just 1% of Prague area and you will barely meet any Czechs there.
Prague might have a John Lennon wall but Warsaw has a John Lennon street! (and one named after Harrison, too)
Sheku, forget about any concerns about racism of Poles. Of course, as in any country, there is a certain percentage of mentally ill people here, but other than that, normal Poles by nature, tradition and history, regardless of right or left, do not look at skin color at all, but at who you are as a person. That's why they seem so aloof at first. If they get to know you a little closer – you are "one of the boys" forever.
People who shout "white power" on the street of Poland are usually those non-educated, physical working single men, who are frustrated and believes that foreigners comes to Poland to steel women:) They would say something rude to Latinos, Italians, Asians, anyone really. They are also rude to women:) Just ignore those loosers.
I live in Poland, moved here 15 years ago from the USA, and I've visited Prague many times. I just think Prague is overrated. Prague is for college kids or people in their 20s. But you're right, there are a LOT of scammers there. In Prague, the vampires come out at night. The country is very nice, the small towns are awesome, but Prague itself is wrung out. The cities in Poland are much more chill, relaxed, safe and enjoyable.
Of course tourists are treated better in less touristy areas – that is literally an universal law. In less touristy places in Czechia like Olomouc, Brno or even Pardubice, you will be treated much better than in Prague where all the foreign scammers try to scam the incoming tourists. Wandering in streets around Charles bridge and the Prague castle, 99.9% of people around are tourists from different continents and a majority of workers / scammers are foreigners too. It is really a different world that locals try to avoid at all costs.
Prague is so beautiful, you missed out on a lot, but respect for your reasons for doing so.
Can't say I complain about Poland being favourably compared to our Czech brethren.
Also: never, ever fall for the King of Bohemia scheme. Sherlock Holmes made that mistake already.
Sheku… Your videos are sensational. And I'm not exaggerating. Great editing and music. Greetings from Gdańsk ❤
To be honest, I'm surprised. 🤔
Smiling my friend and teeth drying , that’s very different things.
As a neighbour and Polish – I love Czech people, but you're right. That's how they act. Doesn't mean tey're not welcoming but their minding nore their own business 😊 In Poland … someone can change his plans to help you or show you something. Not always of course, we've got our things to do also … but it's really posibble!
But once again – Czech people are nice people 🙂
Prague is overwhelmed with tourists, not as bad a Budapest, but perhaps they locals are just fed up a little of them, that is, unless your spending money, like you did in that restaurant.
Yeah, w've got some intelligent beings right here. But Poland isn't black or white 😅
