Never like Nigel and his alter ego. He uses a fake Hong Kong accent when he is actually Malaysian.
Joking or not fuck that mf he will catch that fade sooner or later from a real one he may gota pass in Minnesota but come to my city its a wrap
Laos used to be a part of Thailand or Siam in the past. So, Laos food today is essentially Thai Isan food. If you don't believe it, go see the old map before the French separated the two sides of Mekong river. Today's laos and cambodia used to be a part of Thailand.
Laos food is good. But Cambodians are just dirty
I don't know why people got upsets over Uncle Roger's opinions or him. There are nothing wrong with him or his opinions. White people, most of Americans, and most people in the world don't know how to cook at all
People cooked foods from southeast Asian countries. They didn't know how to cook them correctly at all. They didn't put right ingredients in their cookings. They didn't cut vegetables and meats correctly. They overcooked the foods for long time. That's why the foods looked terrible.
Cambodian's foods influence different countries throughout southeast Asian countries and all over the world.
Fung bros, stop being racist against your own race whoever have just arrived in The United States.
The Lao Lan Xang Kingdom lost some of its territory when the French redrew the border between Laos and Thailand. Laos was never part of Thailand as so many Thai nationals have stated in the comments. It was never one big country composing of Laos and Thailand and Laos did not break off from Thailand to form Laos, as so many of you are alluding to. Modern day Laos is what is left of Lan Xang, a LAO KINGDOM. Modern day Isaan region, was also part of Lan Xang, a LAO KINGDOM. Some of the individuals who keep repeating that Laos came from Thailand are the prime example of Phibun's wet dream. His Thaification policies governed what people would wear, what they would be taught in school (important note here: what students were taught in Thai schools!), etc etc. This meant that people from different cultural backgrounds, millions of Lao people living in Thailand included, be assimilated to the more standard central Thailand. Now, why there are many Lao people living in Thailand deserves a different rant, but in short: war, enslavement, some leave for work, etc. So, if you're a Thai national living in Isaan, explore your ancestry. You might be ethnically Lao or another minority.
Fast forward in history a bit, gastrodiplomacy brought Thai food to the world stage. The Thai government was genius for this because it did, indeed, boost tourism in the country. The Thai government paid people to move abroad and literally open up Thai restaurants. This is why there are so many Thai restaurants and because of its popularity, Lao people started opening up restaurants and calling it "Thai". Anyway, for me, I'll call papaya salad (with the fermented fish sauce), sticky rice, sai ua, and laab as Lao and Isaan food, but not Thai because those are not dishes that come to my mind when I think of Thai food, but Thai food is delicious, too.
Guys taste is subjective. Why take offense? It does not make sense.
As a Cambodian American, I am very offended by Uncle Roger comments about Laotian and Cambodian foods. I used to love him but now I hate him with passion. Unsubscribed!
Laotian and Cambodian don’t need Uncle Roger insults. Unsubscribed!
HAIYAA how this Clown Uncle Roger Asshole Yellow chinoodles eater of dogs and cats who is not Chief Can diss Cambodia & Lao good like that!
Asians are soft af.
I get that you can't please everyone, especially everyone in the Asian community. I get that it's a joke to create a hoopla for an upcoming collab. However, the fact that Laos and Cambodians are under-represented not only in America but in Asia, it's an unnecessary joke. Food is a big factor and an introduction to a person's culture. So, to diss it (even in jest) leaves a poor taste in everyone's mouth.
Any advertising is good advertising.
He flogged Southeast Chinese food to death. So now his channel needs the next big thing to move on to which would be laou and. Cambodian cuisine
Still thinks that woke culture has made everyone oversensitive and taking things too seriously, also not willing to see things from other points of view. Like you said, he is just being uncle Roger, a fake character, so get over it 🙄
I love how you guys looked at it from some many different perspectives. Great video!!👏👏👏👏
Thanks for bringing up Tai Dam 🎉🎉🎉.
Wtpho, easy to said, but,he didn't make fun or insulted Vietnamese food. Its like saying,Oh I hate Chinese food because I don't eat dogs, covid didn't came from us.
Yeah, he's not funny tbh. I'm cambodian, thai and chinese. So I grew up eating mainly those regions' dishes. I first had my taste of Laos food when visiting my cousin in oakland at a lowkey spot many years ago, and man, it's freaking bomb! We need more Laos restaurants in SoCal!
Maybe he can't handle the spice from lao and cambodian. We too hot for his bland taste.
He is not even funny.
I'm Cambodian and after seeing the immense hate for cilantro on social media, I realized people have preferences due to their "palate spectrum" and DNA. Outside the food industry, convincing one to like our dish is not our job. The point of trying foreign cuisines is to be open to experience new flavors and to appreciate the culture behind it. It's like discovering a new form of art unlike you've ever seen.
Cambodian food is created by us and for us and reflects our region's fauna and flora which creates unique flavors. However, our most popular Cambodian dishes among tourists are Amok (fish dish), Lok Lak (beef salad dish), and Num Ban Chok (a soft noodle dish varying in flavor depending on the Samlar and Kroeung used. The original form of this dish predates Chinese influence).
Also, Vice had an article about the Thai government funding the many Thai restaurants, worldwide, as a form of culinary diplomacy to boost export and tourism. Our government has been stepping up lately but really needs to utilize Cambodians more familiar with the history/origin, the authentic recipes, and techniques.
Another point is that Laos, Cambodia, and the Philippines are/were always Asian joke fodder on American television as they are seen as obscure and less vocal Asians up until an episode of Desperate House Wives made fun of the Philippines and ABC had to apologize. I guess Nigel is learning this lesson as well. It worked for Filipinos, so I'm glad Cambodians are finally speaking up.
Guys like Nigel Ng is the reason why Aunty Helen would only date white guys!
Let me guess. He's going to collab with Laotian or Combodian people , right?
People shit on white people food anyway but nobody cares
i still rememeber uncle rogers deleted a video with Mike chen for saying something neg about china
Soft Gen Z easily offended by little things… Laugh a bit 🤣🤣🤣
This is one of the things which I think people tend to not understand when it comes to I guess like cancel culture and this other shit. People just take this sort of thing at face value, attributing it to just people getting soft and what not, but they do not dig deeper and truly understand WHY people get upset from various jokes and things like that. And we tend to look at words in a sort of arbitrary light, when words do indeed have their meaning to people.
It is his publicity stunk 😅
Because asians can't really take jokes I'm asian so i understand them 😅
I had a Chinese boss once…he asked where I came from (Laos), he straight up said he knew nothing about Lao except we’re lazy, don’t care to progress. Of course, I just translated that to we love the sabai sabai lifestyle and we work when we need to. We lived off the land. Even though we are…were landlocked (China said the belt and road initiative makes us unlocked), we were self sufficient.
I really not get offended by his word at all. But when he have so much influence. Its gonna affect the tourism of Cambodia. There a lot poverty in cambodia that really benefits most from tourists. Children in cambodia literally goes work bcos they can’t afford school. Its such a hardbreaking when uncle roger said all that when they really need people to help aid their tourism.
It’s horrible bcos he is shitting on a poverty country when they live of die with tourism.
I probably wouldn't know about this situation? Just eat the food 😋 of the taste delicious 😋 or not. But just take a bite🥢of the abounds of southeast Asia food. My great historical information for today. Have a great fabulous wonderful day.
