LOCATION:Budapest,Hungary

Budapest is a large city with numerous district articles providing details on particular attractions, eateries, and lodging.

Hungary’s capital city is Budapest. Budapest is one of the most wonderful and entertaining towns in Europe, with its distinct and youthful ambiance, world-class classical music scene, vibrant nightlife that is increasingly embraced by European youth, and last but not least, its amazing provision of natural thermal baths. It is known as the “Paris of the East” because of its incredibly picturesque location and architectural style.

Budapest today is the product of the union of two ancient cities that were situated directly across the Danube from one another. Buda is located on the western (left) bank, on top of a tall hill, and is home to the Buda castle. The relatively flat eastern (right) bank side is known as Pest, and it is here that the Parliament, along with many other grand structures and lively streets, have managed to preserve the architectural legacy of the 19th century.

Because of the Banks of the Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter, and Andrássy Avenue’s cultural and architectural significance, Budapest was inducted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

Budapest provides a somewhat good standard of living for anyone on a modest budget. Budapest is comparable to other major European cities (see specific sections) in terms of culture, gastronomy, and overall ‘feel’, but at a lesser cost.

It’s fortunate that costs are lower because wages here are far lower than in western Europe. For instance, in 2017 before taxes, a skilled worker’s minimum salary was 161,250 Hungarian forint (Ft), while the minimum wage for unskilled laborers was Ft127,650.

The number of homeless persons showing up in Buda and Pest metro station doors is on the rise. Although many residents who were raised without witnessing overt homelessness (before to 1989) find this upsetting, this problem typically does not a risk to travellers.
