November 2023 and storm Ciaran, the third named storm of our autumn hits Cornwall as it makes it way along the English Channel.

After drenching the Channel Islands overnight, the high winds and heavy seas make their presence known in Cornwall. Combined with high tide, the storm is expected to bring down trees, disrupt power supply and cause disruption.

This video was filmed in Portreath and I stood well back from the sea.

    1. you know that one translation of Nancekuke/Nanskuke is death valley or valley of death- never give aid to the revenue men and don't eat the blackberries. Kernow Kensa peeps.

    2. Thanks Andy for your brave storm watching. We were in Marazion for the week ( came home yesterday 😢) but stayed indoors on Thursday and watched from the window; the waves around the Mount were spectacular – glad to be watching from inside though. While enjoying the spectacle we must give thought to all the people whose homes and businesses have been damaged here & the Channel Islands, and also the people who lost their lives across the channel as the storm passed through Europe .

    3. Hi Andrew very brave! Of you to risk that environment, I'm in Clayton it's wet & breezy so I'm shut in watching very old repeats of Lovejoy (fantastic)
      Enjoy your day.
      Jef.

    4. Had some good years here. I used to have a house almost right on the Beach in Portreath. Was a belter watching the storms, people used to make less fuss over them back then though. They were just storms and not all this twaddle about climate change. I remember one in particular rough storm when the pepper pot building got smashed clean off the end of the Jetty. Crazy storm that was.

Was a superb place to live but just too busy in the summer. Winters were absolutely magical thanks for posting this 🙏🏻

    5. Myself and my family just returned from a week in Padstow, we had rain pretty much every day bah.
But when the storm hit we missed it where we were only woke us up 5.25am high wind knocking some garden chairs over and then wind dropped glad of that.
We visited StAgnes head for walk to the mines and we arrived to gale gorce winds and high speed wind driven rain rocking the car but it dropped and stopped raining wr had a good walk for few hours and loved a dry walk.
      Glad were home now..😊😊😊😊

    6. Thanks Andrew. That was some storm ⛈️ 🌪️, and like the south coast was heavily hit for a few hours. I'm always amazed at people leaving vehicles in the thick of it, all that corrosion😯. I went for a walk around Penzance the next day, and you wouldn't even know the storm had been.

    7. I've been wanting to get back to Cornwall for quite some time now, but with travel costs being what they are it was cheapest for me to come by as a storm 😆
