This is a tourist-intensive place in Germany. Of course it is expensive. Try your luck at a normal Christmas market where the locals go.
I went several times when I lived in Germany. I loved it.
They had a lovely toy museum and a beautiful church by the wall. The ramparts were amazing too.
My aunt gave me a cukucko clock. She got it from a coworker that was throwing it away.
