Welcome to one of the most beautiful medieval sites here in the Ardèche region. Here at Crussol we can find the ruins of a medieval castle and its town which is completely encircled by a stone wall with ramparts. Inside you can find the remains of 140 houses complete with blacksmith, artisans and traders. The complex is entirely made out of local white limestone, almost giving it a Minas Tirith kinda vibe with all that white. As you climb higher and higher the panorama over the valley unfolds. Crussol is located on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the Rhône river and because of that, it had an important strategic function. The top of the rock is crowned by the remains of the lord’s castle. It has sadly partly collapsed due to quarrying in the area. Nonetheless this is a must visit castle if you ever find yourself in the area. Thanks for watching!

    3. So I was inspired to go have a peek at Crussol on google earth, and I seem to have discovered a possible entrance to some kind of underground space. There’s an established path that’s easily visible leading up to what looks like a portal of some description, but, as my luck would dictate, there aren’t any street-view points in that part of the area and no mention I could find detailing any kind of cave or mine. I was hoping against hope maybe you guys might have poked your heads in that area and could tell me what the hell I’m looking at? If not, I won’t be all that surprised it looks like a place that would be easily missed unless you were looking for it specifically, but one can hope. Heh. Here’s the coordinates for the specific spot I’m referencing, if you paste them into google earth it should show you what I’m talking about pretty clearly I think…(44°56'20"N 4°51'10"E )
