      https://vagabondbuddha.com/our-liability-disclaimer-the-risk-is-on-you/

    2. You talk as though SE Asia was one country which of course it's not. No westerners have a right of entry to any of these countries, they can refuse entry or restrict an arrival as they see fit. I've lived in Cambodia, been in Thailand many times and visited Vietnam briefly, and I've lived in Hong Kong and Taiwan for several years so I have a lot of experience with Asia generally.

    3. It was nice in Thailand pre 2005, where you could do unlimited border bounces, and live for years like that.

Now that I qualify for the annual retirement visa for $50, makes travel easier with a base to return to.

I was looking into the Sarawak visa, and it is great for a 5-year validity, but could take a year to get approval.

    4. Very interesting. I was stuck in Malaysia at the beginning of the Pandemic (I am Canadian) and after my 90 day exemption expired, because the borders were still closed, they allowed me to stay another 3 months, so six in total. I left in September 2020. I returned again in 2022 and no issue, got a 90 day exemption of which I only used around 20 days before leaving. A couple months later I had a two day layover in KL and no problem, got the 90 day exemption. In all of these cases no one ever asked me any questions. One thing I have noticed in travelling to 106 countries and going through many passports. When you get a new passport it seems to reset you in many systems. I know this because I entered South Korea once on a new passport and they asked me if I had been to South Korea before which I answered yes, and then they said, oh, it must have been on a different passport because it isn't in the system, to which I replied yes. Same thing happened in Japan where I had lived for 6 years in the 90's. I entered and they asked me if it was my first time so obviously that old info was wiped. Just an interesting tidbit for what it's worth. Obviously with a new passport they won't be able to see your old stamps, which can prove useful in certain countries (ie Azerbaijan and Armenia is a recent one that comes to mind, US and Cuba, Israel and ME although Israel doesn't stamp your passport anymore). Just anecdotal but I also find that I get more questions when my passport is almost full of stamps but none when it is nearly new. One last warning – beware of the Maldives. I had an unpleasant incident entering that country. I was staying at an airbnb but you must know the name of the place and give it to the Customs Official when you enter. Even though I showed them my reservation and it's address and phone number they said it had to be an apartment with a name. I couldn't believe it and I ended up having to book a hotel (much more expensive) on the spot and then plead with my airbnb to cancel which they did. Turns out it did have a name but I didn't see it listed and they told me the Customs agent should have looked it up but they were just being lazy and obstinate. It's the only time (other than Bahrain just after the 2011 Arab Spring uprising) I have ever had a problem entering a country and it left a bad taste in my mouth. I won't go back and I will always tell others how rude they were.

    5. SE Asian countries donโ€™t want to be over run with expats. The expat population is continually increasing because the west is horrible. I was informed that itโ€™s better to continuously move around by expats who have been doing this for years.

    6. Looking at air tickets for my wife's and next trip. Super expensive on Google flights and United. Is anyone else seeing this price jump? The prices I am seeing are 3000 to 13,000 dollars.
We always fly on Tuesdays and Thursdays 3 to 6 months out. US to Thailand

    7. Thanks Dan, much appreciated! I've been looking for about a year for information as to how frequently one could enter Malaysia and this supports what I might expect. Decades ago I had used to do frequent long stays in Malaysia and immigration said that one border run was ok but after that one needed to be out of the country more than 30 days, but if I were on business trip, as I often was for an oil company, they usually gave 30 days, but now with two 90 day entries in 6 months seeing to be the policy, this would seem like it might cause problems for people who travel throughout S.E. Asia for business as well as pleasure.

The Days where we could roam the world on a whim may be coming to a close. A life-long friend I used to travel the world with and who for many decades was a top-tier leading Nation State Intelligence official about 6-months before the pandemic warned me that something major would happen in 2020 and the world was going to change dramatically. After the pandemic started this person said that eventually residing out of the U.S. as a tourist or ex-pat would be curtailed, and "Your U.S. Passport will not allow you to reside outside the U.S., and places like Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, but possibly some countries in Africa, or non-EU countries like Albania, Armenia, Bulgaria, Turkey or Ukraine could be one of the few options.

I asked why that might be, but got veiled hints about the US Dollar and something like what is being called A Great Reset, and the need to cut greenhouse gases to zero ASAP and that global tourism that drives air-travel has to come to an end. Not me talking, but what someone who's hints about the future have been mostly spot-on for 30 years.

    8. Before the Pandemic Dan, my plan was to retire back in Penang, but with the MM2H visa program for peninsular Malaysia being severely curtailed I started to prep for the Sarawak's S-MM2H Visa program, but in early 2023 that also changed dramatically. Currently couples need income of 10,000 MYR/mo ($2,200usd) and individuals need 7,000 MYR /month ($1,500usd) per month and an additional 100,000 MYR ($22,000usd) for couples and 50,000 MYR ($11,000usd) US in liquid funds, AND 300,000 MYR ($65,000usd) for couples and 150,000 MYR ($33,000) for individuals in a fixed deposit, and a lot of leg of detail work, private health insurance which can be difficult, expensive and possibly impossible if you are older and/or have preexisting health conditions a bit like health insurance in the U.S. before Obamacare.

Early in 2023 I enlisted the help of an Immigration legal firm in K.L. to assist and they informed me that the Sarawak long term visa program (S-MM2H) does not allow for long-term residence in peninsular Malaysia unless you were already grandfathered in before the 2023 changes, but is it was not currently being enforced but that if and when it is, that I should expect and prepare to move to Sarawak at any time.

The Immigration attorney also mentioned something about not being able to leave Malaysia for more than something like 90days at a time but I have not verified that, but if that is the case, it might present problems if someone wanted to spend more than 3 months traveling or go back to a home country for an extended period of time.

I was also informed that some applicants had been waiting for more than 6-months for approval, that and the other restrictions Dan, left me a bit heart-broken that Something I had kept in mind as a possible place to enjoy in my last years is no longer an option, as I can no longer afford to rent or live in the U.S. and will be homeless as soon as my rent controlled apartment is out of rent control in Portland Or. is approaching $2,000 a month, for a most basic, moldy dump in in a building controlled buy drug cartels, overrun with shootings, homeless, burglaries and more, such as miserable weather and a traumatized population.

Many of us Dan need affordable and livable options ASAP. Having lived and worked abroad there' a few places that are billed as top escape destinations that are not what is portrayed and I suspect many would eventually find intolerable. and if you can provide some more of you in-depth insights beyond the drive-by click bait disinformation most channels pump, I'd be grateful. Thanks!

    9. I got a bit of a 3rd degree at immigration as well. The officer suggested I get a different type of visa, such as MM2H. I'm hoping the soon to be released new rules for MM2H are more in line with the old rules. I spend good money in Malaysia, have extended local family there and speak the language. I love the country and people, and am looking to establish a business presence there for my company. I need to talk to an immigration attorney to see what my full range of options are.

    10. Your GDP Numbers for Thailand are wrong. Also the numbers for the Tourism GDP Numbers includes local residents and not only Foreigners with foreign money.

    11. Dan, I want to say thank you for making such well done and informative videos, Iโ€™ve been watching you for some time now, and very interested in doing what you do across the world and Southeast Asia, but making videos of a different content. What Iโ€™m thinking is a kind and courteous gesture for people to watch not only for those of other places, but for people living in these countries as well. Iโ€™m not wanting to spill the beans online here, but if youโ€™d like to know, and let me know if it sounds like a good idea, Iโ€™d be happy to share and love to see you guys do some of the same. Just say hello. About myself, Iโ€™m 48 now, and Iโ€™ve been traveling the US by van full time the past 11 years. Absolutely love what I do, and do it in a very cost effective and efficient style. Iโ€™ve been gathering video making equipment for the past year now, seeing that Iโ€™ve had countless people tell me to start a channel. Just building the gull to do so. So if you have any tips in getting started and would like to hear my ideas, Iโ€™d love to hear from you sometime. Thank you again, and I really hope to meet you guys someday down the road ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

    12. I flew in to Thailand on a 30 day visa waiver, stayed 25 days, flew out, traveled to 5 countries for 6.5 months and when I flew in, the immigration officer scrutinized my passport for a lengthy amount of time, seemed annoyed and asked me how long I was staying this time before stamping my passport. 7
Btw, I have a strong passport. Maybe I am reading too much on this but I felt something was off.
