A case for retaining the Minnesota State Flag following the selection of a new flag design for the State of Minnesota.

  1. I have no clue how i arrived on this video and why I'm writing this comment but I watched your video and i have some thoughts.

the old flag is so ugly. I get you love history but a flag is a flag, its a visual representation of the entire state. No one wants minnesota to be visually represented by pushing out the native americans. That is just plain lame. and also the same people asking to change the flag are the same people that want the Native American genocide taught in schools, the multi-century disenfranchisement of African-Americans taught in school, the REAL history, just like you said.
its not about "deleting" history, its about those lessons being taught in the right places. No one wants to look at their states flag and be like "oh yeah we stole this land and state from a people who took care of it and buried their ancestors on it for centuries upon centuries and, oh yeah, we also massacred them". Thats sad and depressing, there is a time and place for that.
I mean also, if you even need a half hour speech to explain why a piece of fabric is a good representation of a state, it is not a good VISUAL tool at all. You said it yourself with the five things that define a good flag.
the last point ill make is, that the history represented on the old flag is just wrong. its simply a bad and inaccurate representation. The most accurate representation of native-american and colonizer-american relations would be a white american holding an indian scalp or a diseased village perishing or just literally a war being fought between the two opposing nations. There was nothing peaceful about it, we all know that.
Obviously the flag is being changed for political reasons and so some corrupt democrat can avoid taxing the rich or actually improving the lives of their constituents (thats just how politics works) but you CANT deny there are several valid ass reasons for ditching this lame, overly complex, depressing, ugly flag.
Ok im gonna go now, im just procrastinating on my work at this point

  2. I do think it's a little funny that you left the kingdom of Ireland out of your history of the Union Jack just as you left out the actual seal from your discussion about the Minnesota flag.

I agree the history of the death and displacement of American Indians should be taught and know, but a symbol of manafest destiny doesn't belong on a flag.

I do like rhe tri color more than the solid color personally

  3. Didn't bother to discuss the Minnesota Seal on the flag
Didn't bother to record half decent audio

So i didn't bother to watch the rest of the video.

If you want the history of indigenous people in Minnesota to be commemorated, maybe you should ask them how they want to be commemorated, huh?

  4. Weird you fail to bring up how New Mexico changed their flag. Weird that you set your mug on my flag without a coaster. Weird how you fail to bring up how we changed the Minnesota flag 40 years ago.
