Tsumago-juku, along with the neighbouring Magome-juku, are beautiful post towns surrounded by the Kiso Mountains. In the Edo period, they were used as rest stops for travelers, on foot or horseback. These two are particularly interesting and have evolved to being tourist destinations because of the picturesque surroundings in the Kiso Valley. Magome-juku is the more developed, while Tsumago-juku has areas which retain more of the authentic Edo era flavour with houses maintained with Edo-era materials and concealed wirings. Other areas definitely feature more of a (relatively) modern flair, but are still gorgeous!
Definitely visit both, Tsumago-juku and Magome-juku (which I covered in my last post https://www.reddit.com/r/travel/s/UkmHk6pIxO) – they are a short bus ride apart. Alternatively, if you’ve got the time, you can hike through the historical Nakasendo trail, though this does take a couple of hours. You can reach the Kiso Valley area by the Shimano train from Nagoya (closest major city) or Nagano to Nakatsugawa or Nagiso.

Indeed this part is really one of the best, really tells you a lot about its amazing past and history. Really nice shot too!
