Full-time Travel – ALL Your Questions Answered

Okay so it’s time for the question and answer video uh these are kind of fun ones for us to do because throughout this last over a year and a half since we’ve done our last one uh we’ve been asked so many questions and we answer all of those in our video comments but

It’s kind of nice to just get them all out there because some people probably have some of the similar same questions I think the last time we did this similar style of video um we had maybe 5 or 6,000 subscribers um we have a few more than that now so thank you for

Joining us we’re going to answer your questions it’s also easier to put a video out like this to answer your questions then sit behind a keyboard a couple hours in the morning and and answering all your questions which we try to do so keep them coming keep them

Coming we’ll keep answer do it so we’re going to get started yeah so the first and most common question that we get that we’re just going to get some of those out of the way right at the beginning is is how old are we we’re old

No we’re not we’re not old at all we’re very young for what we’re doing um I’m 53 I’m 52 so there you have it I’m getting more gray hairs every day yeah and how many kids do we have so uh I have two kids I have a son and I have a

Daughter and I have three grandchildren I have three daughters and they age from uh 33 years old uh down to almost 22 years old so uh yeah they’re all grown up and out of the house yeah we we both started very early that is probably why

We were able not probably it is why we were able do what we’re doing right now now one of the things we are not going to really cover so much in this video but it was a common question from a lot of people was what are your plans for

2024 we are still kind of tightening up those plans and haven’t really for sure everything yet so uh we are going to be doing a video probably late January where we will break down everything for you our for 24 we’re really excited for the plans that we do have organized so

Far okay so our first question was what income do we rely on yes that’s a big one we get this one quite a bit actually uh we each had uh separate savings um where also and this is the key part this was a very very important part for me

Especially is we’re both debt-free so with no debt and some savings uh we were able to pull the trigger and start doing what we’re doing with the idea that we were going to try our hardest to get YouTube to try and supplement some of what we’re doing and that may be why

We’re working so hard at YouTube is because we really need for it to pull through for us and so far we see the potential of what we could be doing yeah when we left to start doing what we were doing um we really had no expectations

Of YouTube at all um we had hopes uh but zero expectations we had like a one-year plan in place of that we would try it for that long and see uh and then soon as we did see it progressing we decided to push forward with it and um start

Pushing a little bit harder because it was doing well for us and we’re going to push even harder more to come on that stay tuned do you keep finances separate from each other and how do you divide costs on travel so on one of our past videos we uh were doing a grocery

Shopping trip and we made the comment about or Brian did about how he just venos me for I didn’t explain it very well didn’t explain it just kind of came out of the blue um and I think to some people that was really surprising we do keep finances separ from each other um

We both have been married we both have had uh past relationships and that is just one of those areas that at our age it’s just easier to do things separate and uh we split everything 50/50 uh how we keep things separate is pretty easy when I’m doing I do our booking of all

Of our travels and and planning hotels and everything like that and Brian basically gets a bill I say this is what you oh for this time yeah and then he just vmos me the money uh and then the same for you know all of our things that

Are together is you know we we go and we buy our food together and everything like that but then we do split it 5050 I know to a lot of people that may seem very strange but I think there’s a lot of people out there now that that is how

You do it as well so um any extras I pay for my own I buy my own beer she doesn’t buy my beer I don’t buy her avocados and tomatoes so basically buy my healthy food I don’t buy his crapp yeah that’s how it breaks down yeah so that’s just

What works for us um you can definitely do it however you want to make it work for you okay this one probably should have been at the beginning as well um how did we decide on full-time travel yeah well um I would say that we just

Got tired we’ve both been working uh 9 to5 for 30 plus years um and and we got bored basically we went on vacation together we went to Portugal fell in love with Portugal the wheel started turning on how we can make this something fulltime um and we just

Activated like I mentioned earlier we just went for it we rolled the dice um and hopefully it pays off yeah and it was kind of an interesting story cuz when we traveled to Portugal together and we did a 3- week trip and we came home and full-time travel wasn’t

Necessarily what the first Envision that we had for for what we were looking at doing we were looking at could we retire early um retiring outside of the United States is that retirement early an option because we knew that staying in the states it wasn’t an option for us

And then as we started pursuing that and I actually started in the plan process of just moving to Portugal uh all of a sudden the wheels did really start turning of we could just travel fulltime and not settle in one exact location uh for the same price if not maybe a little

Bit more but go and actually explore the world and here we are and here we are doing it highly recommend it okay next question out of all the places we’ve been which place has that wow factor that we’re looking for what are we looking for for when we show up or we

Decide to go someplace what do we want that’s a it’s such a good question because um as we’ve gotten to places I would have to say that we have this list of things that we look for as kind of those checks the Box places right you

Know we want the water we want whatever the walking trails all of that um and then there have been places that we get to that we anticipate that we are going to get there and be like okay this place is going to be good for a few days and

Then we’re probably going to ready to leave and we end up being shocked because it’s like oh my God we love this place place is cool yeah isul comes to mind yes isul was definitely a place that we loved and didn’t quite understand why uh and changai another

One uh didn’t check those boxes we were initially looking for so I think that thinking that you’re going to be able to just have this checklist of places what what is going to BBE give you that wow factor we have found there isn’t we can have those things we want but we’re it

Just you have to get there and experience it and they’re always changing and there’s just a feel that comes with a place now this question was directed to Brian specifically uh how long did it take you to learn video editing because you just really took

That on about six months ago yeah I took down about six months ago and um I’m six months in I’m I’m feeling much more confident um but there’s a lot more I can learn when it comes to editing on these programs um there’s always more you can learn how to do there’s always

Some new trick some new tool to use so I’m 6 months in and I’m I’m editing maybe 90% of the video now car does help me with some overlay stuff that I’m I’m still working on uh Carrie did the first editing for the first two years and and

She can tell me right now that um yeah there’s still tricks she could learn as well yeah it’s always a learning process it’s a learning process um but to get the basics down I think it takes you a good couple months to get the basics

Down and we Premier Pro so I know that there’s easier programs to learn on but that’s what we’re both learning on as soon as you start on one you may as well just stick with it and imp perfect it but he’s doing a great job thank you

Okay this one is directed just towards Carrie why I didn’t get this question I don’t know but here’s here’s the question Carrie how do you stay so fit on the road and how do you keep your white luggage white so how we kind of covered how we

Stay fit um on the road uh in past video we just kind of so for me personally I do try and eat healthy majority of the time um I definitely eat differently than Brian that’s probably why we do separate our purchases a little bit he’s

Got his beer he likes to snack uh yeah I don’t know if beer is in the healthy it does have wheat in it so yeah barley barley um so you know and then also I use YouTube um their workout videos it’s very easy and it’s free and you can find

Just about any any kind of workout video or time length that you have to do a workout in online so I highly recommend utilizing that now as far as the luggage goes it’s white luggage and if you’ve ever seen like a white car from the distance it looks really great and then

Sometimes you get close to that white car and you see the dings and scratches or you see the uh the dirt on it that you can some see from far away that’s kind of how my luggage looks but then when I get home I use one of those

What’s it the M the Magic Eraser on it and it cleans it up beautifully and so every time I leave it is really nice and white again and but it does get a little bumped and bruised while we are traveling but that’s part of the fun of

Traveling and I do try and keep in shape too if you were just wondering he does a good job he he goes he goes jogging when he can all right next question what are your winter plans our winter plans are we go home every winter uh we both have

Parents uh kids Grand kids um so we like to spend the holidays uh with them now for me it’s a little more tricky cuz I’ve got one daughter in St Pete Florida one in Phoenix Arizona one in Seattle so uh this year they’re all coming to Bellingham so I’m I’m I’m excited about

That that should be a lot of fun um but yeah we go home uh for about six to eight weeks every winter yeah this time we’re going home for 10 yeah that’s going to be a long time it’s a long time but um we also do house sitting when we are home so

Uh that is something we might cover in a future video if you’re interested in that let us know um because that is something that can really save you money on your travels as well you’re not paying rent during that time that your house sitting uh it also gives you the

Opportunity to go and see other areas that you may not made it to right okay now next question uh which did you like more Albania or Montenegro oh that’s that’s a good one um very similar countries overall I would say Montenegro mhm um the coastline either one of those

Two countries you’re going to find the same Coastline um as you’re going to find in Greece or or or Italy or Croatia um it’s they’re beautiful countries they’re very affordable countries I would say Montenegro has a better uh infrastructure the bus system um just getting a back getting around the

Country is a little bit easier I’d agree yeah yeah but but s was great and um yeah if if you’re looking to save some money there’s some two countries right there that uh might be interesting yeah I would say that the one dividing Point um and I totally agree with that is that

Montenegro had really good grocery stores you could get everything that you were looking for as far as that was and Albania that is something that severely lacked like we really really struggled and you know when you were in a place for um a few days not a big deal you’re

Not going to the grocery store but we were in those places for a month at a time so um to me that would be a big uh decision point right okay this next one um these are all great questions and we’re going to say this over and over

Again they make us think that they make us think this is a good question uh this this question is going to turn into a video later on down the road um when do you start planning your travels how far in advance do you plan out your travels

Book yourb andb and whatnot it’s really a great question and the thing is is that it really unfortunately doesn’t have a a completely Defined answer because there are times that we don’t have a lot of time to maybe we’ve decided to change our route and plans

And you’re just plugging away at it for hours on end per day for two weeks or you may be planning three months in advance and you’re just putting a little bit of time in here and there so we definitely plan quite a ways out so when

We are looking to plan our travels we are looking at a femon block of time uh and we’re deciding a general area we’ll be traveling to and then from there we’re kind of then defining in between in that five months where we’ll be traveling to because we are budgeted

Travelers we’re not going to one location let’s hop a flight to a whole different area of the world for another month uh so they kind out all half intermix so I would say that we start planning at least a 3 months in advance of that five months that’s why when we

Were asking what our plans are for the upcoming we don’t have them totally dialed in yet but we definitely have an idea um as far as like cuz I think part of that question is probably how far in advance do you book your airbnbs and everything um so with Airbnb it’s really

Very much going to vary the time of year that you’re going to be traveling if you are traveling and it is going to be high season you are in the dead of the summer when everybody else is traveling you may want to get that Airbnb reservation made

A good eight months in advance if you know your location you’re going to uh but you know what if you’re going to be arriving and it’s in the winter time and nobody else is going to be there you can hold out so it’s December right now we haven’t booked anything for March April

Or May right cuz those just aren’t really the high season so we feel like we have time so a lot of that would probably vary your decision of when you need to book okay so this was a really good question are we they’re all really good questions they are really good

Questions um are we sponsored in any way uh aside from Amazon affiliate because I think everybody kind of knows we have that um do we get free Hots do we get free VPN and if we are sponsored or doing a sponsored video will we tell you of

Course we’ll tell you well you’d know from the video because we’d be doing an ad in the video I’m going tell you right now I’m GNA tell you right now we do not do sponsored videos uh we decided a long time ago that um the commercials that

Pop up on our videos we get paid on those on those ads that’s 95% of our income YouTube does that we have nothing to do with the ad or anything else we have nothing to do with it to do a sponsored video we’d have to take

Another minute to a minute and a half of your time watching our video to pitch you something that’s annoying to me when I’m watching somebody else’s we F forward we fast forward through it we’ve had plenty of opportunities we’ll probably get more opportunities this

Week we just don’t do it so we do not make money off sponsored videos we have never gotten a free Hotel we’ve never asked for a free Hotel um we’ve had several people tell us they stayed at the Sai Wabi W wab sa the Wabi Sai in puket uh because of our

Recommendation we don’t get anything out of that that was just a great little hotel we liked it if you’re in the area uh we’d recommend it but we get nothing out of it right and the things that we recommend to you in our videos are because we’ve used them ourselves and

There are some things that we do recommend to use say for instance our VPN that we use or um what’s are there our safety Wing that I use for insurance we recommend those for you because those are things that we use ourselves we think that they are good value for the

Dollar um and there’s something that you need to travel with now if you do go Below in our description and we tell you this and there is a little informational piece there if you do see that um that if you click on it it costs you no more

Money at all to click on that and to use that link just helps us because they saw that you got to their website by our recommendation that’s all it is we do make a little bit of money off of that not a whole lot and we do appreciate you

Backing us with that because it is how we do fund what we are able to do and bring you these videos but yeah as far as sponsored videos we’re not going to do those nope nope nope Carrie how exactly did you choose the kind of insurance you’ll need and and

What do you have and what does it cost okay good question um so when you are traveling there’s the main question you want to ask yourself for the kind of insurance you’re going to need are you traveling full-time so you are going to be leaving your job you’re not going to

Have any kind of insurance back home and you are going to be traveling around the world or say you are leaving for and just taking a trip for a month but you still have some sort of insurance available to you at home or the the biggest question you’re asking yourself

Are you going to have any availability and insurance back home or are you leaving that all behind if you are leaving it all behind then you need to get a full health insurance plan and what we have used as is Signa Global and we have been very happy with them that

Is a full insurance plan it travels with you around the world uh for a while we did not have uh the United States added on there because it was cheaper to not have the states we then decided we didn’t like to be limited to only being

Being able to be back in the States for a set amount of days per year and so we added on United States coverage now the other option though if you do have that insurance coverage with your home when you are now traveling to other areas you really just need travel insurance and so

I have now switched over to safety Wing because I currently do have accessibility to a plan at home uh but safety Wing will cover me wherever I travel in the world for any kind of emergency situation but it is more of just a travel insurance plan now we both

Pay I pay um 115 a month for my insurance plan and Brian pays 145 145 for Signa Global for a full medical plan so as you can see from those price differences it’s not a whole lot of difference between the two of them the difference is is when I go home with

Safety Wing I can then cancel because it is travel insurance I can cancel that plan for the time I am at home right I got to keep paying all right do we plan to go to South America why or why not and if so when good question okay yes we do plan

On going to South America uh we we really want to go sooner than later um what we need to figure out is where do we want to stay in South America for a month at a time obviously boras will stay there for a month and where to from there that’s still something we’re

Trying to figure out what we may do depending on how this crew goes is look into doing some sort of a cruise around South America that way we still get to see it still get to explore it um and not stay in any one destination for a

Month at a time we also want to make sure if we’re going to go down there we want to do it right go to Patagonia um stay somewhere really cool and in order to do that we’ll need to save a few dollars yeah it’s going to cost us a

Little bit more yeah but bonus is really inexpensive so yeah we’re really excited to go there but that covers one month and like we said we go to location and we kind of plan on five months so yeah we’re trying to figure that one out but but uh yeah it’s on the

List okay next question this a good one are you interested in Residence citizenship someplace or just Perpetual travel so originally like we said we were planning on just picking up and just getting a permanent residency in Portugal and we really thought that was going to be the plan and then as we

Started traveling more uh very much found that we didn’t need to do that because the fact is is that no matter what we still have our children are in the United States our family members are in the United States we are going to be traveling home at least twice a year and

That may change as our as our family members get older um and so the idea of setting up home somewhere just was not appealing as much anymore for us more so what kind of changed for us is instead we started looking at those places where would we

Go to for three months at a time and so instead you know be home for the the winter months and then go somewhere for 3 months four months and then you’re back home again potentially yeah yeah so no is so we’re not going seten the short

The short answer to that question is no no but that wouldn’t have been a lot of fun no this video been over like that yes no no yes okay okay so this next question kind of goes on the same terms is that one as well uh in earlier videos you were

Looking for a place to settle down long term have you found that place yet and where would it be where would your top place be yeah I think like back to the 3 months at a time thing uh we still really really do enjoy uh the algar area

In Portugal um yeah but turkey recently turkey though recently really you know blew us away and there’s going to be more on Turkey to come um but but yeah so I would say those two places um have been have been they they check all those boxes we were talking about earlier we

We’ve um we’ve definitely found more places that are in that 3mon category and we actually will have a video coming out um if it hasn’t already by the time you see this one that will cover those locations that are the places that we would stay for longer term so far in our

Travel is what we’ve seen right okay Carrie why Airbnb and not bookings we’ve used both and find bookings better free cancellation points earned discounts and lower prices yeah why don’t we use booking Brian’s R new why sounds good yeah you know I just haven’t had the same experience at all I

Check all platforms I go on to Expedia because they now have long-term rentals I use Airbnb I use booking.com um you know it really varies on the country you’re in and where you’re traveling to uh personally I still find that Airbnb has the largest selection of properties to choose from

Uh we did use booking.com honestly one time so far in Albania because they had the best pricing on the location and the place that we wanted which we still highly recommend it was a great location I just really haven’t seen the same benefits I do agree with the

Cancellation policy part of it if you want to pay maybe a little bit more up front and use booking.com but you know that you then can cancel your reservation that is a huge Plus for a lot of people that don’t want to lock into something for a guaranteed four

Months from now or five months from now plans can change but I just have found across the board Airbnb for us has been better and this is not a sponsored video we get nothing out of Airbnb get zero from Airbnb no and we have had problems

Um if you’ve watched our past videos we did have some problems with um one of our locations that we stayed at and we were backed by airb be 100% and got our money back out of that so um yeah so far that’s just been the one that’s worked

For us okay I really like this question because it’s one of these questions that really makes you Ponder and think so if you had only known what would you do differently oh I remember this one mhm um what would we do differently if we had known um I would have

Started saving money 10 years ago 10 years prior I would have started downsizing a long time ago um I didn’t need that uh better Barbe Q I didn’t need the truck I could have gotten a hatchback that type of thing I think I would have um done differently well in

The in the past um so I I would have not tried to keep up with the Joneses maybe yeah is what I would have done I’ve always been really budgeted for the most part and saved pretty well um but I think that what I would do differently

If I could go back and talk to my my teenage self I would have uh probably listened to my parents even more so and put away whatever I possibly could uh and just saved money because uh you know it’s what allowed us to do what we’re doing right now by being able to

Have money in savings but uh more money would have been even more comfortable yeah you know it’s not that we made mistakes it’s this it could have been better I mean that’s always hindsight right there 2020 there’s always something that you would do differently

So that’s all I would I would say that I would do differently is I would have saved money that compound interest is a huge thing okay Carrie since retiring retiring do you have any advice on how you got there interesting yeah so I mean that kind of goes along with what we just

Answered a little bit is uh you know just the savings not being debt-free um you don’t need the new car or the new phone or all that new stuff that seems great right now but uh if you want to do what we’re doing it’s going to be a lot

More important to have that money in the bank because you’re certainly not packing that TV long with you or any of that stuff with you we sold everything gave everything away uh prior to doing what we’re doing uh you know we’ve had a lot of people ask us questions kind of

Like how we did what we’re doing or about our investments and things like that that is just an area that we just don’t touch on neither one of us our financial I feel like I I’m pretty good about financial things but in no way would I give advice to people uh on

Their finances that is something that if you need that advice I really highly recommend that you go find somebody that you can sit down pay them some money and have them just kind of walk you through what you need to know um and we’ve we feel like we have our things in order

But uh to other people they may be like that was a really horrible decision yeah they might look at my portfolio and go Jesus dude what are you doing get back to work get back to work no all right so how do we deal with problems back

Home I haven’t had a problem back home yet no thankfully we’ve been we’ve been incredibly fortunate we haven’t had any issues back home we’re not saying that that could not happen at any time and we know that yeah I think I think uh what we’ll do um when when a time comes

Inevitably uh we’ll go home yeah you know um one of our one of we we love surara Albania um but it’s 5 hours uh to the nearest airport unless you go into Greece and we couldn’t go into Greece because of the shangan time we had

Already used it all so we were feeling a little bit isolated so we we do like to be places where we can uh jump on an airplane and and get home if we need to be home within 24 36 hours we can get there yeah that’s always something

That’s in the back of our minds and um so you know we know that that time is going to come where we need to get home quickly for whatever reason that is and uh that’s our plan is we just go home and so I would say that make sure that

You have a little uh pool of money aside to buy those tickets they’re going to be last minute tickets you’re going to need to get home and you’re not going to really care what the price is on that but uh you will need the funds to do it

So um yeah I I just think that it’s unavoidable no matter where you are things are going to happen and you don’t they’re not in your time frame so we’ll just make it work okay next question do you ever get tired of traveling you seem to be traveling non-stop 100%

Yes this this scares them sometimes um I think that the thing is is that that is why I very much look forward to when we do go home as much as sometimes 8 weeks or this time 10 weeks can seem like a really long time um the thing is

Is that you have to think along the lines of when we go home there’s all these elements I don’t have to think about right I’m not worrying about where are we going tomorrow do I need to get it what is the train schedule going to be like um do I understand the language

That’s being spoken going into the grocery store to buy our groceries do I have to figure out what this product is and get out my Google Translate for every meal I want to make there is a lot of work that goes into traveling full-time so um by having those two

Times a year that we go home and we get to just relax and you just immediately go into that mental relax mode as far as those things go because just relax because you’re not having having to think through every single element of your day yeah you know uh she kids with

Me about um me getting a little bit worried when she says she doesn’t want to travel anymore um she’s never said that now I get it it can be work trying to understand what somebody’s saying because they don’t speak very good English and you’re in their country so

It is kind of a relief to go home twice a year uh just just for all the reasons she just said yeah right and then I think that that’s the beauty of when we do go home granted we kind of fill those little Banks of uh seeing family and

Getting that connection time with friends uh but we’re ready to then go again we’re excited to go again so I do feel like I need that break from some of that for a little while and then I’m I’m excited again for the travs right she

She gets a break from me for a couple days too usually break from each other too I said I don’t need a break from you he likes to just say that yeah it makes them feel good it does make me feel good okay did we sell our homes before taking

On this new lifestyle and if so what did we do with our stuff did we put it in storage leave it with family uh we sold everything gave everything away it’s gone um I’ve got some winter clothes um back home that I’ll need when I get there um and other

Than that um we got rid of everything yeah we got rid of everything we did keep important paperwork that you obviously need and things like that right so we we jacket I saw my Letterman’s jacket he just couldn’t part with that one uh you know I think that

You’ve got to keep some of those those key things memoral belilia we do have children um you want to keep some of those so we each kept a couple bins we did contemplate that conversation of do you keep a storage locker uh you know the thing is is do the math on that

Storage locker for one year’s time while you’re making that decision bought you quite a bit of new stuff so you kind of have to make the decision of how much is it worth for you so uh fortunately my daughter’s house is big enough and and

We kind of have our own little space in there that we each have our our bins and our winter clothes when we go home yep how do you deal with two Factor authentication for your banking okay so this is an interesting one because uh you do want to make sure that you’re

Dealing with some of these things when you are home before you leave the States you need to make sure that you have um a phone number that they’re going to text you at uh you know so there’s kind of a lot of steps to this to make it work we

Are doing a logistics video of full-time travel like all the things that you need to get set up and in place before you leave um trying to answer it for you right now is going to be a little bit harder because we’d rather kind of show

You on the screen of some of the things that you’re going to need to do to get that set up and in place the one thing I will say uh is that the a lot of the companies have made it easier to where they’re learning that a lot of people

Maybe don’t have access to to just getting a text message or maybe that won’t work so there is like the Google auth app uh that they’ll send you like codes that you can use uh some are doing it through email uh so there are becoming some other options of that but

We will cover all of it in an upcoming video that be a good video okay are you scared to travel with the wars going on no that was a quick answer so we were in Istanbul when uh the war broke out um in Israel and uh there were there were some

Peaceful protests going on and a lot of anti- American uh things going on um and it was a little bit unnerving but um we were fine we we ended up getting to capid doia and we saw no sign of anything at all we ended up in antalia

Turkey uh soon after that and uh people um are very kind politics did not come into play at all um the entire time we were in Turkey yeah I think it’s one of those that you know if you’re if there’s always going to be conflict especially in the Middle

East and so you know I I don’t know there’s just always going to be something going on and you just can’t um stop traveling because of it unfortunately you can be careful you can be guarded and um you know you know we’re not going to go to uh Ukraine

Anytime soon or Russia or or Israel or or Ecuador um so there are hot spots that uh you just avoid you just be aware yeah okay do we have issues with our kids and family not liking our travel lifestyle no uh they were all very excited for us

Um one of them has come and visited me one tried to do it herself and found that after three weeks she got homesick uh so her and her boyfriend went home uh but they are starting to travel a lot more than they ever have U because we’ve

Inspired them um so no we have not had any uh negative feedback for many of our friends and family so I would say that on my side I would say that it hasn’t necessarily been negative feedback I think they support what what I do probably aren’t really crazy about it as

So much um but I would say that what has changed is is in the beginning um there might have been those like it was hard the being away part because I’ve always lived near my family right but as time has gone on we’ve gotten kind of used to

The new schedule you know they know I’m coming home twice a year they know we’re going to be home for extended period of time it’s not like we’re home for a week boom we see everybody and we’re out again we’re home for an extended period

Of time and I think one thing that we have really found with this new travel lifestyle that we have we have more quality time with our family than we had when we were living in the same Hometown and seeing them for the occasional family dinner or something like that now

We get like full days where we sit and remember my kids are all over the United States so a little different it’s a little different for me anyway for me it’s my parents who I need to get back to see next question what is the division of work between us I think that

Um that’s a really good question because that is something that we have been trying to find better balance with and um like we discussed earlier in the video I had taken on the editing and Brian never did a job that was behind a computer all day I did so that just was

An area that became much more natural to me and so as we progressed forward we’ve had to work to find better division in that well one of the one of the things that we we didn’t know going in how this whole thing works so we’re going to go

Out and we’re going to shoot a video and then we are going to edit that video well we can’t do that doesn’t work it goes on a computer and then that person edits it on that computer um I can’t come in and it just doesn’t work that

Way so um so so Carrie ended up taking on a lot of the burden of doing the editing because she just got out after it because she knew where all the files were at and all that stuff well I worked on computers natural now I know all that

So now I’m doing the editing so it’s balanced out quite more quite a bit more now the the more I take on the more she finds to do so that’s the exciting news we have coming up but but uh yeah so Carrie will never be the one that is

Working less because she’s a workaholic I just find more to do we do we do have some exciting um we feel exciting things kind coming up and some new changes and everything and so Brian will be taking on majority of editing uh so that I can then focus on another line of business

So uh we’re excited to share those with you soon next question uh as budget-minded Travelers do you find it difficult to balance your destinations do you find you are forced to stay in a destination longer than you would like yes or no I would I wouldn’t say

That we’re forced to stay in a destination longer than we’d like like I think there are times we’re forced to go to the destination in the first place um with that being said we went to Romania because of the budget end of it uh Romania is not on our um exciting let’s

Go to Romania but when we got there and experienced Romania it should be on your list of really cool places to go so we have found places um that we wouldn’t have otherwise gone to simply because they’re budget mining and uh you know there that Romania is just one example there’s there’s several

Others so that that’s one of the things that staying longer than we want to no going in the first place yes it kind of yeah it kind of forces your hand a little to try some places that maybe wouldn’t have been on there if you had

This ex just unlimited budget so I think that works in a positive and as far as staying longer in a location than what we would feel comfortable doing I think one of the things we have found uh is getting to a place we’ve decided that

You know know we just look at a place and it may not be our favorite place but we’re there and we get the opportunity to be there and we just really try and appreciate it for what it is even if it’s not a place we plan to return to uh

And then also we just look at it also like okay we have a week and a half here that we really don’t need an extra week and a half here but we just put it towards work or relaxing or whatever so make the best of it we have left two

Places MH early um just because it wasn’t working any longer and we needed to go um and so we we kind of ate that last week so to speak of rent um so um no yes and no yes and no good answer do you have hobbies that you take on the road with

You um I do not have hobbies so to speak I follow my sports um think it’s a hobby which is a hobby yeah um you know go Huskies Washington Huskies right now telling you what Champs on the way um and you know the the YouTube and what

We’re doing online right now uh has become um it’s it’s become work but it’s become a hobby and we really enjoy doing it so um yeah I think that that we keep ourselves busy yeah uh by doing that I don’t think either one of us had Hobbies

Neither one are readers or anything um I’m a I have a hard time just sitting still and relaxing so I’m always online researching something learning something new like that so I think those are our Hobbies okay now this next one we’ve gotten um over and over and over again

Um and it’s a legitimate good question once again um but how do we do our taxes so this is actually a super easy one to answer um you know I’ve never used anybody gone into somebody and had them do my taxes for me so I’ve always done

Them myself doesn’t matter where you are in the world uh you can file your taxes online uh with all the different online services so it’s honestly it’s pretty easy to do or we could easily if we did need to have somebody do our taxes for

Us we could do that when we were home because we are was home over the holidays so right at that time of year that we would need to be dealing with it so uh I would say that doing your taxes online is or doing your taxes is easy to

Do and once again we will also this is part of that Logistics all the things you kind of have to tackle uh when you are looking at full-time travel so we’ll go a little more in depth in that uh in that video as well so what do we do in

Our downtime well our downtime consists of um you know exercise we go to the grocy store we we do the laundry we do the the everyday um activities that that you would do back home um now the sight scene comes along with it we just did a

Video not too long ago on what our typical day looks like and uh I think that answered the question pretty good um it was a really good video so if you’ve not seen go watch it it’s a good video it covers our entire day on what we do and how we

Do it okay a lot of these questions are directed towards both of us but every once in a while it’s just directed towards Carrie and this is one of those uh what are your go-to recipes when you cook yeah we we get this one a lot that

One was really interesting we kind of went over this a little bit same video that Brian just um and because I do think that when you are going into another country sometimes there’s that question of what the availability is going to be of those things that you can

Cook at home uh and I’ll tell you that every grocery store in every country that you go into it is going to vary and change but our go-to recipes that we typically not always but typically can make our stir fry tacos spaghetti and just your Basics like we just do like a

Chicken and vegetables and uh some kind of potato a sweet potato potato or a regular potato whatever is available so you will find that you’re able to do those basic go-to they may taste a little different than home because you may not have all the ingredients that

You normally used to getting for them though yeah and breakfast is really easy you’re going to get eggs anywhere yogurts stuff like that so that’s always easy what are the go-to things that we carry with us to make life a little bit easier like our kitchen items do we have

Any kitchen items that we carry things like that you know we used to carry we used to a knife sharpener and that is something if you are not doing carryon only I would highly recommend carrying because you may have a really nice SNB they pretty much always have really

Horrible knives but if you have a knife sharpener you can make that horrible knife work pretty well so we did use that at almost we we have a bottle opener with without the knife M um cuz you can’t take that the other thing that we do travel with is laundry sheets yes

Uh that is something we actually just kind of recently figured out and boy they are a lifesaver because you can um first off they’re they weigh nothing they take up absolutely zero room they’re quite inexpensive so this is something you can just buy when you’re in the states and then travel with them

Yeah and we’re going to we’re going to go over this will kind of go into that Logistics video also on some of the items our go-to items that we we need I can’t really I mean I have a Bose sound system for music uh things like that

That are kind of a those are kind of are Essentials Essentials but but anything that makes life easy Carrie I bring Carri with me I don’t fit in the bag she she makes my life a lot easier so both of us need that yeah besides besides that I don’t really

Think of anything we also had a question on what were our the most overrated and underrated countries and that is something that we are going to do a full video on because we’ve been to a lot of places now and it would be hard to answer that in just like one question um

Really briefly or make this video a lot longer than it already has uh this question though is the reason why we’re doing that video this was such a good question yeah that we’re going to we just have to put that on a video all of its own because that is a very good

Question that’s why we love your questions because honestly for us it triggers sometimes a video especially when we receive those questions over and over we see it as a Hot Topic and so we want to cover it but we want to cover it in more depth than we can answer it in a

Quick little question answer but this is where we are going to just cut this video for right now uh this video has gone way long but if your question has not been answered which there are plenty that haven’t been answered yet we are doing a part two uh so if you are

Watching this video it’s only a few days away and the other video will be coming out it’s not not making you wait very long for it all right we had 85 questions so we them allot so we’re getting into them all so all right we will catch you in a few days Cheers

    Cheers

    1. Thanks for being so real and informative – really enjoy your videos 🙂 Looking forward to seeing more of your travel adventures in 2024!!

    2. I enjoy the videos and appreciate all the time you'll put into them. I use your links, I'm not a big spender, but it's a little. The majority or my money goes into travel and investments. Keep up the good videos.

    3. We are travelling from Portugal to Malaysia for February – KL, Penang and Sarawak, a scouting trip to move full-time there. Decided that Portugal is not our 'forever home'. We've been to Malaysia many times. Ticks many boxes for us.

    4. Very informative and interesting, you both come across as real everyday people. Thanks for what you do and looking forward to your future videos.

    5. Haven't been to Montenegro, but I'm currently living in Saranda for the off-season and totally agree with your assessment…People are great, it's cheap and the best views I've ever had from any apartment I've ever lived in….and as an American, we get a 1 year visa free stay, which is a biggie for me and will enjoy it while it lasts😊

    6. Thank you for continuing to inspire my wife and I to take on full time travel. Love the interaction between you both. BTW – love your response Brian about conflict, does it change your mind about travel…. "No" 🙂

    7. Happy New Year to the dynamic duo. Your videos just get better and more thought provoking. My husband and I also do not co-mingle assets and keep finances separate. I love hearing you say this as many think this is a bit out there. I can't wait for the underrated and overrated places you visited video. Wishing you an amazing and adventure filled 2024. 💖

    8. I loved the answer to the question what you would have done differently.
I am 10 years younger and saving up and sizing down is exactly what I am doing now. Many people don't understand, react irritated or deride early retirement plans.
I think that most people are so deeply stuck in our consumer society they can't accept somebody deviating from it.

    9. I always wanted to follow some of y’all’s travels in person and even considered purchasing property with my older sis in Portugal. But with so many changes over there I’ve changed my mind.
Lately I’m really considering Medellin Colombia.
Their Infrastructure has improved so much and communities like Laureles and El Poblado are beautiful!
Bogota has changed a lot too in a great way…
I follow a couple guys who live there. You can probably search for them but didn’t want to put their names here if it’s not okay.

      Happy New Year!

Keep the travel and Q and A videos coming.
      Luv y’all!

    10. Thanks a lot for all your information – love your videos! 😊. I think you are great at filming and editing! I do it at work and like it a lot🎬.

Where have you felt most welcome? Country, city etc? Has it been easy to make friends among locals?
I personally think it is interesting to see how people live where we travel.
      Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪// Maud.

    11. We sold or gave everything away, also. EXCEPT I do have 2 storage boxes with a few thing I just could not part with…my Pampered Chef garlic press, my Cutco knives and a quilt my best friend gave me. Plus some misc other stuff. Since our home base is at my parents home in Phoenix, AZ, we did leave winter snow gear at our son's house in Idaho.

    12. Excellent information that you shared! Thank you so much! In fact, as we were watching, I was gonna skip the ad and Keith (husband) said let the ad run, it helps them out. 😀. It’s the least we can do for all the hard work and consistent helpful videos you put out there. You guys are delightful!

    13. Interesting to hear your evolving thinking on residency in another country. We started-off with thoughts of moving to Spain, but like you, we are finding a range of benefits with long term trips abroad instead (at least for now). I'm looking forward to your logistics video!

    14. Hi to you. Firstly best wishes for 2024 and hope it's a good year for travelling. I had a question, with all the shots and images that you get from your travels does it also allow sufficient time for you both to relax and enjoy. I was thinking with all the time and effort that goes into your videos I hope it allows time for you both to enjoy with your time?

    15. We've been following you for a long time. We are also from the PNW ( Seattle ). Sold everything in August 2020. Into our 4th year now. We've decided to settle in Mexico for 6 Months as our base and continue our travels from there. You two are awesome! We loved Medellin, Columbia ( Laureles neighborhood) and Cuenca and Olon Ecuador ( before the problems ). Thanks for all that you do. So great!!!!!!

    16. Thank you so much, guys! You two were inspirational for us and gave us the confidence to continue with our early retirement plan.

Although we are both Australian, my wife is originally from Czech Republic. She's always wanted to live in her hometown, at least for a while.

We took the radical approach, like you guys, of selling everything we owned in Australia in order to move to Europe and retire early. We are a similar age to you and this is definitely not the conventional approach. We don't even admit to many of our friends that we consider ourselves to be retired, because they just wouldn't understand.

For now we are living in Czech Republic, but we may eventually do slow travel once we have had our fill there.

You, along with a couple of other channels, showed us that it is possible to do this and not follow the norms.

      Cheers! 🍻

    17. We are not married and have traveled the world extensively over the last 23 years. We have been in dirt-floor airport terminals waiting for hours in the South Pacific etc and find that the most important factor in successful travel is being happy with the person sitting next to you and enjoying all the conversations you have not had with them yet. Unless you edit those portions out you guys seem to have it locked.

    18. Such great questions and answers, and looking forward to the logistics and over/underrated locations vids as well. I try to read most of the comments under your vids, always pick up new info and thoughts, but handy to have them all together! Ended up watching in the afternoon so no pajamas, but enjoying with slippers and hot tea! 😊 Now off to Q&A #2 … 🙌

    19. My wife and I have just done the same think, retired early and are travelling around during the winter and going home for summer. We are debt free too, but survive on one pension and therefore have to budget too. We are thinking about downsizing our UK house in the future but can manage for the time being. Wild horses could never drag me back to work for sure. The point of my comment is that I love the way some of the answers are surprise even to Brian……! If you get chance give our channel a quick watch and let us know what you think. Mike & Cheryl

    20. Here's a question – what are the top (your personal favorites) YouTube Travel Vlogging channels? Example, for me, I was one of the original Kara and Nate subs and I also always watch The Endless Adventure with Eric and Allison. The funny thing is I'm 64 and I still follow these "kids". We (wife and I) have traveled the world over and continue to travel internationally. I just find bits and pieces of what they do that we want to do as far as locations to visit.

    21. You mentioned South America. We have been in Paraguay for almost a week now, but will be here for 3 months. We are Asuncion which is an incredibly modern city with everything you can imagine available here. I was quite shocked to find it that way. You could easily spend a month here and it’s very affordable. The restaurants here are incredible and their service is beyond anywhere else in quality. It also shares borders with Brazil, Argentina and Bolivia….and Uruguay is not far either.
      Just a suggestion. 😉
