Intro to BANGKOK’S Temples & Night Markets | Thailand Travel Vlog
Thank you Right now we’re on our way to a beautiful little area that we’ve passed by a lot during our time here so far and it’s called The Royal Pavilion we don’t really know what it consists of yet but we’ve been wanting to check it out so we figured we’d show you that first So pretty much every day we’ve walked along this path right back here but we always walk past this super amazing um Courtyard area it just looks so crazy and so we actually finally get to explore today which we’re both really excited for The crazy thing about visiting Bangkok is like this looks so amazing but if you look on Google Maps there are just scattered all throughout the city probably like I don’t know 20 or 30 different monuments or temples or different things like this it’s just insane how
Much of this stuff there is here oh I think so many more than 20 or 30 well there’s at least 20 or 30 big ones and probably quite a few more it’s I think I think I think we’re
Going to have no shortage of things to do here we didn’t see much about this place online so we were hoping there’d be some plaques around here to inform us but we’re not really seeing anything but a bunch of Tuk Tuks just showed up and a tour bus so we know there’s information
On it somewhere unless all the all these people just think it is really pretty and don’t care about the history which is definitely a possibility I guess but I think we’re missing something somewhere We haven’t even gone inside anything yet and this place is already amazing this place is huge we haven’t been in any temples yet so I have nothing to compare to but this is huge and gorgeous and it
Looks like there’s so much that you can go inside of like we could be here for a while In our travels the majority of what we’ve seen have been like Christian uh Cathedrals and churches and then some mosques here and there but this is so cool there’s so much more use of gold in this like there was quite a bit in some of the cathedrals but like the huge
Huge gold figures and then just the artwork on the walls is so so different one of my favorite things in it was there were there was this one um painting on the back wall that there
Was like a stair did you see the ladder like the the ladder going up to the temple in the sky I thought that was really cool I thought that that was something oh is that what it was yeah I think
It was a temple in the sky oh well you didn’t tell me that you just pointed to a ladder I didn’t realize that no no no no no I’m talking about the painting oh oh okay there’s also a ladder
In there there’s a physical ladder in the back that goes up to the to the ceiling yeah and I I don’t know if it goes anywhere but that’s what I thought he meant there is also a really cool piece
Of artwork yeah there’s cool artwork all around but now I think we’re going to try and go into golden roof Place yeah we saw people climbing on top it looks like a huge building there
May be a lot of stuff in there yeah there’s five floors five yeah apparently going to be a while We made it to the library This one’s my favorite This Temple has 37 of these points and they’re meant to represent the 37 Dhammas of Buddhism or like the 37 principles and monks come here to I think practice um those 37 Dhammas I don’t exactly know what they are I would imagine that they are very much related to a lot of the
Principles that we saw walking around the library for this Temple it’s so surreal to be in it’s so fascinating wow so I made it to the fifth floor and you get to this patio on the top that just
Gives you 360° views of Bangkok and the rest of this whole complex which is just stunning but this has been such a cool experience such a perfect first start to the day I cannot believe
How long we were in there we were in there for so long probably over an hour going through all those different floors so it was super quiet in there so we didn’t talk very much so we figured
We’ just catch you up now once we were out of it that was not at all what I was expecting I didn’t know what to expect going inside there but that was so cool each floor was like had a
Different purpose the first one was an exhibition so more just like kind of a mini Museum giving some history and so we walked around there for a while then went to the second floor which was the library area right and then Marshall really enjoyed the floor after that was that the one oh
No no no the one after that was the one after that there was a sitting meditation floor and a walking meditation floor and Marshall really enjoyed the walking meditation floor that’s most of the reason why we were there for so long he was just walking around and doing his walking
Meditation for like half an hour it may have been that long yeah I it really was it it was in a grid and you’re just supposed to walk around in random paths um while thinking and I really enjoyed it that was very relaxing yeah I um was starting to feel feel tired
And standing so I went up and did the rest of the floors before he was even done with that one even on very very busy intersections here a lot of places don’t really have stop lights with cross walk symbols so everybody seems to just be going
Wherever there’s room and we’re trying to adjust to that but it’s not the easiest for us well that’s not good in a lot of the Cities we’ve been in recently the buses stop at every bus stop um
There’s different modes of transportation that you have to flag down but for the most part the buses stop no matter if they look like there’s somebody waiting for them or not we just learned
That bangkok is not that way we just saw our bus pull up and just completely pass us because we didn’t look aggressively enough like we were wanting to get on it so flag down your buses in Bangkok hello you can sit here
These buses are super nice and easy the person just comes over to you after you sit down and asks you where you’re going and then takes the money so this makes it really easy and you know that your stop isn’t going to get missed
Yeah it’s really nice because a lot of times when you have to pay cash we feel like clustered to get the exact change as soon as we get on the bus you don’t have that issue here We thought this was a good opportunity to get our first Tuk Tuk so we’re on our way on our way to the night market right now I think it should be about there’s lights I think it should be about a 10 minute ride
So we just got to the area of the Pattana property market and it’s our first night market it’s our first night market and we got dropped off in a pretty quiet spot so we’re crossing the road and seeing if we can get to the more lively section yeah well it seems like there’s
Two areas there’s one that we’re walking to which is what I I recognize but then there was also like a long strip down there so I think this this whole market area could be really big so it’s like a full market so they have um you know uh just normal
Goods like home goods and stuff like that but they also have a lot of fresh produce um and then some hot foods as well and I think the hot foods is what we’re most excited for so there’s quite a few things on the list that we need to try one being I think
It’s called satay but it’s like meat skewers and we’ve just seen them on Street vendors everywhere and I’ve been so excited to try it but also durian which is like the really stinky fruit and Sabrina doesn’t want to try it but I feel like we definitely have to cuz it’s super famous here
It’s supposed to be people who people say that if you get past the smell it’s supposed to be really good and we’ve already seen it that I no not people say it’s the best we’ve tried or you’ve
Tried at least a Durian candy okay but that’s just candy but it could be accurate and it wasn’t very good yeah so much to try even though it’s well past Sunset we are both covered in sweat so we figured a good thing to have while walking around is a fruit smoothie so
I think we’re getting a mango and passion fruit one and I’m so excited okay this is perfect how is it there’s so much going on in there we have to step out anytime we want to say something or else I’m sure this whole video is going to just
Be way too loud and sweaty yeah this is so perfect for what this is huge it was 40 baht so that’s that’s fine like a dollar a dollar for this not bad okay good start how much for those we finally found Marshall’s favorite that he’s been waiting for since we got
Here so we’re getting three like Shish kebabs of meat we don’t know what two of them are one of them’s crab wrapped crab the other ones could be chicken or pork we asked them what their favorite was there there’re
These two these two right here ready the moment you’ve been waiting for this whole time I can’t tell if it’s chicken wow so she asked if I wanted the spicy sauce and I said yes I was assuming she just meant like do I want spices on it okay it’s actually it
Doesn’t last for very long it’s not bad it was pretty spicy yeah it was kind of spicy uh that’s really good was so good I’m so bad with spicing isn’t that amazing that is so good it’s not that spicy
Oh making fun of my spice the one bite that I had was not spicy I mean a little bit not bad it it goes away really quickly I thought or you just don’t feel it at all I don’t
I’m sorry I don’t think it’s that spicy it tastes almost like there’s like a marinade on it yeah it does I’m sure there is maybe I got wrapped crab so I was interested in how this
Would go I don’t know what I think I’m going to get from smelling it don’t know why I always do that tastes like crab hot crab I have no idea what it’s wrapped with I really can’t even taste it that much I okay
I will give it to you I do feel the spice on my lips I don’t feel it in my throat like I thought I would I feel it on my lips my lips are a little a little toasty so I want to try to keep a running
Total of everything that we try tonight cuz we’re going to try to just get little taste of a lot of things and so it was 40 baht for the for the smoothie and 45 for all three of these so yeah
15 each and they said three minimum but people were getting a lot more than three but yeah so we got 15 each oh gosh they’re still flopping do you see the fish flop very fresh ingredients here so I think right now we’re both a little hesitant to order something that
We’re not exactly sure what it is because a few days ago we accident well I can’t say accidentally it was on purpose but the we got into the situation accidentally but we had um pig brains and intestines for lunch a few days ago and um definitely the most adventurous meal we’ve
Ever had we tried our best to finish it but we did not get close we’re really scared to uh Branch out here because we’re still trying to settle from that event are you can you hear me do you know what I’m saying yeah that was not our best food experience pretty bad food
Day overall yeah that food day was really bad so we’re scared to have a repeat of that we need a little bit more time to settle settle mind settle our bodies and there’s a lot of um
We’ve seen stalls that just have like Goose heads and necks or duck maybe it’s duck I think ducks ducks like the fish the little shrimp thingies are all still crawling and flopping so super cool I
Love this place it’s really cool but I’m scared to to order something that isn’t what we think it is okay 20 more baht for two more meat kebab things he he he warned us on this one that it’s spicy
Yeah I I’m I’m worried about this one this one’s like looks like it it looks really spicy it just looks like it’s just like a pepper sauce but it looks this looks this might destroy us we we have yet to
Have anything that’s been overwhelmingly spicy here so I I feel like we need to at some point I feel like I don’t I I feel like that’s because everybody knows we’re tourists yeah no what what what we’ve decided is that they see white people come in and they just assume
That we can’t handle spice and and they’re right they are right very right that wasn’t spicy is it we’re doing good maybe our spice tolerance is better than we think still not definitely not that’s so good that pepper sauce it’s like a little sweet it’s kind of
Like a teriyaki sauce almost mhm so good it looks like just like straight pepper jelly so I thought it was going to be really really hot yeah yeah still not bad delicious we’re doing good this food day is going good so far
We thought we’d move on to some dessert so we just picked up some pudding we’re having to use Google Translate here more than we have in a lot of places in Bangkok so far um but we keep
Asking people what their favorite is when there’s options so the man at the at the pudding counter just gave us some kind of pudding I don’t know if it’s just plain or what it is but it looks like looks like pudding we think it may be rice pudding
Can we get one 20 baht we decided these were going to be the last things that we tried which is fitting because as we said there our desserts but we came out to try oh oh there definitely is stuff in here we came out to try to find a quieter spot
But we are still next to the road so sorry if it’s still really loud there’s not that many quiet spots in Bangkok no okay show show this consistency this is weird it’s like it looks
Like it’s just a cup of milk but then there’s like there’s so much solid in it I don’t know how to get like a normal bite that’s tiny the smell smells familiar I don’t know like yeah this
Just smells like coconut milk oh it does just smell like coconut milk wow we’re learning our senses both Visual and smell smell we’re not good at figuring out what we’re eating ever so is it like coconut pudding wow yeah is it good yeah it’s kind
Of a lot it’s a very strong flavor but I don’t really want to feed it too but awesome that’s so good I didn’t have high expectations for this just because I didn’t know what it was so I
Didn’t want to get my hopes up but this is super good just some coconut pudding I like it it’s almost as good as coconut ice cream which we have yet to find so we we had it for our first lunch
Here is so good so it’s delicious with you didn’t like it with peanuts I loved it with peanuts it was delicious I was was really hoping we could find some today but we didn’t oh oh they smell
Delicious I think I’m going to change what I was going to say I was going to say we tried to get we wanted some pancakes they had a pancake stall they had some fancy ones but we had a miscommunication
So we got just plain boring ones but these smell delicious I think I’m going to be just fine with this oh my gosh what a great end to the day this is delicious yeah perfect okay
Well I think this is going to be a pretty long video so sorry if this is super long but I think we’ve seen some really awesome stuff tonight I’m so happy we got to our first night market maybe we’ll go to another one tomorrow there’s seriously just too much to do here
In Bangkok there’s so much we still have a week and a half left here I think and we’re going to leave needing to come back to see so much more but they taste like they taste like it’s just vanilla cake batter hey it’s like vanilla wafers that too so good but great
Day in Bangkok back tomorrow for more thanks for watching we’ll see you guys in the next video for editing Sabrina we paid 20 baht for the coconut milk pudding and 20 did I say 20 milk 20 baht for the coconut and 20 baht for the pancake
If you’ve been following our videos, you’ll notice we’re in a completely different spot! For the last few months, we were in Eastern Europe and Western Asia, but now we are (for the first time ever!!!) in Southeast Asia! And what better place to get an introduction to the region than Bangkok??
Thailand has been on our must-visit list for a long time, so it definitely felt surreal going out on this beautiful, and of course hot, day in the capital city. All throughout the city are numerous impressive temples, each different from the last, so naturally we decided to start at one. The temple we visited, Wat Ratchanatdaram Worawihan, was filled with multiple worship areas and tons of incredible architecture, including the breathtaking Loha Prasat which is where we spent most of our time. The style employed is heavy on gold which we find super fun and interesting to look at especially when glistening in the sun.
From the temple, we headed to the MBK center but skipped showing that in favor of the next stop: our very first night market! Night markets were definitely one of the things that most excited us about traveling to Thailand. Cheap, amazing food with tons of variety and all served by incredibly nice people – what’s not to love?! We ended up trying a few new items, some of which will surely make our “favorite foods of the trip” list. The market in all its chaos was the perfect place to end the day and it got us so excited to explore more!!
