Which Disney Cruise Ship Should You Book? | Disney Cruise Line

Hey everyone Dana Lesley back again this time we’re talking about which Disney cruise ship is right for you we are going to try to break this down as simple and as quickly as possible on which Disney cruise ship you should get on we love Disney Cruise Line that’s

Probably no secret we did an episode on the addicted to the mouse podcast which if you haven’t checked that out please check out adictive the mouse podcast we publish episodes every Sunday and Wednesday night but we did an episode similar to this about a month ago and um

I think it’s like really important we’ve been booking a ton of Disney Cruises this year we’ve been taking a ton of Disney Cruises this year and we have fallen in love with Disney Cruise Line I think it’s so important to understand the ins and the outs of every single

Ship and why you would choose one over the other because there are a lot of similarities amongst the ships but there’s also quite a few differences as well so we’re going to kind kind of just go all the way back to the beginning of time no just to the beginning of Disney

Cruise Line and talk about kind of just some Basics about these different these different cruise ships there are right now five Disney cruise ships and there will be eight total Disney cruise ships once all of them that they have announced come to fruition first off there are a few different classes of

Cruise ships the first class is the magic class and that’s going to be the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder the Disney Magic was created in 1998 and the Wonder came um to Sea on in 1999 and they both hold about 2700 passengers and they are the smallest ships of the fleet

So the second class of ship is the dream class there are three current classes of Disney ships technically there will be a fourth we’ll we’ll get to that in a minute um so the dream class is comprised of another two ships two sister ships that were released um a

Little over a decade ago so the dream was released in 2011 and the fantasy year was released in 2012 both of them are very very similar minus a few themed up themed differences between the ships the ports of call and itineraries are what sets those uh two ships really

Apart these are bigger ships at 4,000 passengers per ship and then the last class was originally the Triton class now it’s the wish class and it is comprised of the wish and soon to be the treasure so the Disney wish was uh released in 2022 and it holds about 4,000 passengers

As well and then it’s sistership that is coming in Christmas of 2024 so later this year is the Disney treasure so the two remaining ships that we’re really not going to talk a lot about because we just don’t know that much about them and they are not coming until 2025 and maybe

The similarities between the five current ships that are in operation sailing right now in 2024 and then um a lot of these similar will be um on the treasure that launches at the end of 2024 as well so all of the ships have fantastic entertainment hi sister all of the ships

Have worldclass entertainment all of them have that same ship design where it’s that super super dark Navy with yellow accents yellow lifeboats and then the white top um so it looks it’s it’s reminiscent of the old Cruise Line ships then all of the ships also have what Disney terms rotational d this is

Proprietary or new I guess to Disney Cruise Line uh this is basically where they have three main dining restaurants uh that they rotate every passenger through if they want to go for dinner every single night and what’s unique about this is that your service teams you’re going to basically have a server

And an assistant server that is just for your table and then the section around you that is going to learn your preferences each and every night so when you show up if you want a certain beverage it will likely be on the table waiting for you I do love that

In addition to the world class entertainment they also have amazing kids clubs adult only spaces um character meet and greets and then we would be remiss if we didn’t talk about the that Disney service that you get whenever you’re on board one similarity that is different than almost every

Other cruise ship out there is that Disney does not have a casino in their Cruise Line ships they use that extra space to to uh beef out the kids clubs which are tremendous tremendous this spaces um we don’t miss the uh casino at all when we are sailing Disney Cruise

Line now the one that they purchased that’s a big question mark for me is like the one that they purchased that’s going to be set sale in Asia I I I know that thing had a plan Casino in it so does Dy keep the casino do they not we

Don’t know so how do you pick I think one of the first things you need to think about is what port do you want to Sail Out of so that could be determined by where you live or where you’re headed for a vacation and maybe this the cruise

Is a tack on to another part of a vacation or whatnot so we’re going to kind of just briefly talk about what ports all of these ships Port out of yeah I mean cuz a huge cost of taking a cruise is getting to the port itself and

So just like when you uh take a vacation to an all-inclusive Island our first recommendation is to figure out what your budget allows for airfare and see what island you can get to in that budget because that’s going to pretty much dictate where you’re going to be able to take that all-inclusive vacation

Same thing with cruises first figure out what you can realistically get to so if you live within driving distance of a port maybe start there cuz you’re going to save a lot of money on airfare or if you want to go to a specific destination that’s going to be the other

Thing that really differentiates ship to ship is where you want to sail to so let’s start with the ports all right so the Disney Magic ports out of Galveston New Orleans and Fort Lauderdale just depending on the time of year Disney Wonder depending on the time of year as

Well will Port out of San Diego Vancouver and most recently Australia and New Zealand which is really cool all right and then the Disney Dream ports out of Fort Lauderdale or Europe the Disney wish alongside the Disney Fantasy both Port out of Port Canaveral we absolutely love Port Canaveral because

It is very very close to Walt Disney World so it makes for a fantastic vacation if you want to do a land and sea vacation so keep that in mind mind if you’re wanting to do a joint Disney World Cruise you’re probably going to want to look for a ship that leaves out

Of Port Canaveral to save yourself that extra travel time from Disney World to any of the other ports just for point of reference from Disney World property it is a little over an hour to Port Canaveral finally when the Disney treasure joins the fleet later this year

It will also Port out of port canaval now let’s talk about itineraries once you figure out where you want to point Port out of you really want to look at where you’re going to go some the ships do go to the same locations um and uh it just depends on travel cost getting

There and what you’re in close proximity to if you’re wide open then let the itinerary dictate what ship you take so first up is the magic so Les I mentioned earlier that it ports out of three ports depending on the time of year in the winter it’s going to Port out of

Galvaston and New Orleans doing Western Caribbean sailings those are generally four to S nights in length in the summer when it switches over to Fort Lauderdale it is going to do by Bahamian sailings what’s interesting about this one is that when it does Bahamian sailings it will hit Disney’s Castaway Key which is

The private island that they’ve owned for quite some time now it will be one of two private islands later on this year all right next up is the Disney Wonder in the wintertime it sails to Hawaii South Pacific goes all the way over to Australia and New Zealand and

Then whenever it comes back it goes in the summertime it goes to Alaska for seven night sailings and then the Baja U Mexican Rivier area for 3 to seven nights the Disney Dream is another interesting one because this one also splits its time between North America

And Europe and right now in the winter it is sailing out of Fort Lauderdale and so it does four five night Bahamian sailings um so this winter it is going to Cast Away key because the second private island is not o open yet so that’s going to be called Lighthouse

Point uh it’s going to go over to Europe for the summer what’s interesting is when it comes back it will also hit Lighthouse Point some as well or as Disney calls it Lookout key at Lighthouse Point and in the summertime it does my one of my favorite itineraries well lots of my favorite

Itineraries and it goes all over Europe so you have Mediterranean you’ve got northern Europe you’ve got Norwegian FS um just all kinds of different really cool itineraries that you can pick up on there now the Disney Fantasy that also ports out of Port Canaveral is currently doing 7even night sailings because the

Treasure hasn’t been released yet so it is doing seven night sailings out of P Canaveral in the Caribbean it’s doing Eastern Caribbean it’s also doing Western Caribbean and it hits Castaway key but in 2025 it’s going to kind of transition and do more four and five night Bahamian sailings and it U there’s

A lot of ones that are double dips which that means that maybe you hit the same Private Island twice or you go to both Castaway key and Lighthouse Point which is really kind of cool yeah we’re on um a Disney Fantasy sailing for this June and we hit Castaway Key once and

Lighthouse Point twice so I’m very very excited about that one yeah that’s a special one cuz it’s the inaugural one so that one’s actually seven nights long so it’s a little unique yeah also out of por Canaveral is the wish so the wish is doing three and four night cruises um

These are perfect for a land and sea vacation because you can hit up Disney World for 3 or 4 days and you can go on a Disney cruise for 3 or 4 days the Disney wish is currently the newest ship in the fleet because the treasure hasn’t

Come out yet um and it’s it just alternates three nights four nights three nights four nights out of port canaval yep and then when the treasure comes out it is going to be doing seven night sailings that are Western and Eastern Caribbean and hit up Castaway

Key I think I forgot to mention the wish also hits up Castaway key so if you’re wanting to do Castaway Key you definitely want to sail out of Florida if you want to do Lighthouse Point those are going to be kind of like spread out throughout the Fort Lauderdale and Port

You’re just going to have to look um or get with your favorite Fantastical vacations travel agent and they can tell you uh which ones go to both Castaway key and Lighthouse Point which ones are only going to Castaway key or only Lighthouse Point and so the first thing

That I look at is because it’s our favorite thing it’s our favorite Port is Disney’s Private Island um at least Castaway key and so hopefully Lighthouse Point is as good or better at Castaway key so I would look at number one does it go to one of Disney’s private islands

And number two which one does it go to do you want to go to the newest Private Island Lighthouse Point or Lookout key at Lighthouse Point or do want to go to Old Faithful and hit up Castaway key and then you also want to look at if there’s

Any specialty days on your cruise or a special theming so they have Marvel days at Sea they have Pixar days at Sea they also have very merry time and uh Halloween on the high seas sailings so those are some really cool unique sailings that you can get on that kind

Of have some specialty things that are happening okay and then you probably do want to consider ship size some uh some passengers really really love the intimate feeling of of these smaller older original Disney ships at 2700 passengers it does feel a little more intimate um it is a smaller um ship I

Mean it is a smaller Grand entryway that whole foyer area it is it is a different feel on that ship as opposed to all of the larger ships so the dream the fantasy now the wish soon to be the treasure at 4,000 passengers it is a grander ship it does feel more robust

And and huge honestly um inside whenever you walk in and it’s just really really expansive of course the caveat of that is there’s also more stuff to do on the ship because they have to keep an extra 1300 passengers entertained the whole time so you do have more choices but it

Is uh likely to be more crowded also on like Castaway Key cuz you’re putting um you know 50% more people on the island all right so all of the ships have adult dining um the magic and the Wonder both just have Pao which is fantastic um the dream and the fantasy

Both have Pao and Remy and then finally the wish has Pao and anante which is what uh the treasure will have as well these are more upscale restaurants let I mention they were adult dining only they also come at an added cost um they are primarily for dinner although you can

Get brunches in some of them those are harder to get reservations though so if you want brunch make sure you jump on it as soon as you can and so each ship also has specialty Broadway caliber entertainment they all have like one special Broadway show that is kind of

Theirs and a couple of them do translate or are duplicated replicated on the other ships um but just for clarity we’re going to go over like the one main show for each ship so for the Disney Magic it is Tangled for the Disney Wonder it is frozen for the Disney Dream

It is Beauty and the Beast for the Disney Fantasy it is Aladdin and for the Disney wish it is The Little Mermaid now for the Disney treasure they did announce that that one is going to be Moana and last but not least the adult lounges are all themed differently

Across all of the ships uh so we’re going to just kind of highlight some of our favorites here and I’m going to say that probably one of my all-time favorites is on the Disney wish which is keg and Compass I do love keg and Compass um I really like the idea of a

Haunted mansion themed Lounge which is coming out on the Disney treasure later this year I’m very very much looking forward to that okay before we wrap this thing up let’s talk about what our preferences are and why so just a little bit about us we are Castaway Club gold

We will hit Platinum Status this year we have sailed on all five ships we have sailed to Alaska on Disney Cruise Line we have sailed out of Florida we have sailed out of Galveston we have sell Europe on Disney Cruise Line so um I feel like we have a base of knowledge

And experience to explain why we um chose the our favorite ships and so I just kind of want to go into what our favorite has been and why all right so this is a tough one for me because I kind of have two that are tied so my two

Favorites uh are the Disney wish and the Disney Fantasy I agree honestly the wish and the fantasy are my favorites as well I like the layout of the fantasy better I like the size of the bigger ship so that’s why my fa my two favorites are

Those two um and then I just like the uh the theming of the adult only areas on the fantasy better than the dream although they have very very similar like rotational dining restaurants and so um each the fantasy and the dream both have like um uh adult only

Districts the fantasy is themed to Europe and I just really like that a lot it’s cool it’s very very cool I definitely agree with you on the adult only areas and that’s one of the reasons that the fantasy definitely makes um the top of my list for the cruise ships but

In addition to that with the wish I really really love the kids area there I love the fact that you can take the slide from the like main Atrium area down into the kids area I just think that’s super fun for adults on day one

Too but also just for kids like how cool is that and then I love um the theming I love how pretty it is and new and fresh and the color scheme I don’t love uh some of the logistical decisions that they made with not having that midship

Elevator I really think it kind of complicates things um and they don’t have like a a running track that goes all the way around without having to go up some stairs so that part I don’t love but I think the rainforest room is much larger and more I I think would be more

Enjoyable on the wish because there’s so much more space and I think that the um some of the theming of the uh adult only areas I like them I just don’t know that that I always love that they’re spread out ironically while the wish and the fantasy are our favorite ships my

Favorite itineraries were not on the wish or the fantasy because those are the ones that do not go to the really interesting different places that we can’t get to really easily so I loved going to Alaska on the Disney Wonder I loved going to Europe on the Disney

Dream so that’s why we suggest definitely consider the itinerary as well and don’t just take our words saying that the wish and the fantasy are the best ships as gospel that is the truth well we are actually headed back on the Disney wish very very soon and so

One upcoming video is going to be what it’s like sailing concierge on the Disney wish so we have also sailed every category except for Ocean View and concierge on Disney Cruise Line and on the wish we are sailing an ocean view concierge room so I’m very very excited
