1,5 jaar REIZEN door CANADA en AMERIKA met onze eigen CAMPER | onze ROUTE en HOOGTEPUNTEN
We are Family Everywhere. 3 years ago we exchanged our stone house for one on wheels and our hectic life for one with lots of freedom and adventure. the first year we explored Europe and the last year and a half we traveled around north america. In this video
We look back on our route, our highlights and our incredibly cool time in Canada and America. At the end of June 2022 we took the train to Schiphol and the plane to Hallifax in Canada to see our beloved house on wheels again after a month. at the harbor yes there it comes.
What did you say to Mini? that I missed her Oh, you would have missed them so much. After traveling around Europe for a year, we embark on our new adventure , a long-cherished dream, traveling in Canada and America. We luck out with the weather and
Explore the famous lighthouses of Nova Scotia and the spectacular Cabot Trail on Prince Edward Island. we focus on the fragile coastline that continues to crumble every year. The Teacup Rock broke off during a storm a few months after our visit.
Perhaps the most impressive was the Bay of Fundy with one of the highest tides in the world up to 16 meters. it was fascinating to explore the bottom of the sea together. Where are we almost guys? America. After more than a month in the eastern provinces of Canada,
We crossed the border from New Brunswick to America. Yes guys, we can go to America Well that went pretty well we sat inside for an hour or so we were questioned quite a bit about whether we still had a house and how much money we
Had in the bank account and why I had even been to Jordan She didn’t think so I don’t think it’s that nice , but eh, we got the stamp and we can stay in America for six months.
We drove south to New York via the Acadia National Park and a few stops in Vermont and New Hampshire. We quickly exchanged the hustle and bustle for nature and headed through the Fingerlakes in New York State to Canada. [Of course we visited the stunning Niagara Falls,
Although they were a bit too touristy for our taste. Driving along Lake Superior in Ontario, we finally found nice places to camp wild in civilization before this was a huge challenge in eastern America. We drove from Niagara Falls in 10 days. 2700 km. the same distance from Maastricht to Athens
, where in the last few days we saw nothing but grasslands and arable land. But finally we arrived at the Theodore Roosevelt National Park and its badlands. a landscape we had never seen before. our way went further south to the Devils Tower in Wyoming, Deadwood and Mount Rushmore
Dakota and even more badlands in the badlands National Park. Right at the beginning of autumn we arrived in Colorado and we traveled through this beautiful state for a month. our adventure did not stop at the well-known places and National Parks such as the Rocky Mountains National Park, the Great Sand Dunes National Park,
Mesa Verde National Park, Black Canyon Of The Gunnison National Park and the Colorado National Monument. our highlights were mainly everything in between, the mighty autumn colors of the One Million Dollar Highway, the small ghost town of Animas Forks near Silverton,
And we saw the peak of the autumn colors while driving over the unpaved Kebler Pass. Never before have we seen so many yellow colored aspens together and the views while camping were unforgettable. We really enjoyed Colorado on both the paved and
Off-road roads and with a detour on a beautiful backcountry road we drove to Utah. Arriving in Utah with winter approaching, we decided to explore Utah in two parts now and next spring. We visited the spectacular Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park first. How lucky that just when
We are in Moab there is a Pow Wow going on. a gathering of native Americans from America and Canada Utah is known for its off-road trails, which we of course also explored. We slowly gained more confidence in what our truck can do. we camped in phenomenal and
Deserted places, something we will probably remember most about Utah. the opportunity to camp in unspoilt nature in bizarre colors with amazing landscapes We couldn’t get enough of it. Just like Colorado, Utah has so much more to offer than the
Well-known National Parks and especially with high ground clearance like us, the possibilities are endless. With a trip to Arizona and the impressive Grand Canyon we drove back north to Utah. We had read about a beautiful wild camping spot near
Page, but what we didn’t know at the time is that both the road to it and the destination are one of the biggest highlights of would be our entire trip. the road to the so-called Alstrom Point was bizarrely beautiful and the view over Lake Powell was just as beautiful.
The nights became colder and we were overwhelmed and saturated with all the impressions of the past few months, but when we heard that the first snow had fallen in Bryce Canyon we couldn’t stop ourselves from going there to take a look before we went to Las Vegas and the warmer weather would decline.
Before Las Vegas we were surprised by Valley of the Fire State Park, this small park with bizarrely cool landscapes and Las Vegas, it was cool to see, but we didn’t know how quickly we
Had to leave the city again. back into nature on the way to the deserts of California. The Mojave Desert with its largest Joshua Trees in the world Joshua Tree National Park with its bizarre rock formations we visited them all, but we were most captivated by the
Little known and visited Anza Borego Desert State Park. we camped in a dry riverbed in the wilderness for no less than a week. surrounded by wildflowers and hummingbirds until we really had nothing left to eat and had to move on to Mexico.
We were late in the sun and heat, the border crossing to Mexico went smoothly, but because it was still very chilly in the north of Baja California, we drove at a brisk pace to the south. During the holidays we celebrated the mosquitoes together with our good friends while
Traveling at Ojo de Libre, a place where we will return later in our trip for something very special. It slowly became warmer and we broke the record for staying in one place longer than ever before. It was a wonderful time with lots of fun but also spectacular animals around us.
We had a mysterious problem with our brakes, but after we found the cause and got parts When we arrived from Europe we were able to hit the road again, now back north to America, halfway we stopped again at Ojo de Libre where gray whales and a young one were present in large numbers.
And after 7 weeks of traveling together we said goodbye to our friends. we left the warm weather and the beach behind and drove back to America straight to the Anza Borego Desert which now in the spring and with enough rain in the winter, it may be full of flowers
This park already grabbed us last winter but now again we are blown away by the desert beauty. We had a goal to spend the summer in Alaska and so we went further north. On the way we saw so many beautiful things, the colored rocks of Redrock Canyon State Park,
The crazy Trona Pinnacles and we finally found winter at the Alabama Hills Hello, I’m Nienke. I want to show my family. Look, there’s daddy, daddy, smile. Hello Nienke I’m filming so I better show everyone and there I was, I was playing in a hole and that’s where I sat. well Where are
You Karlijn. Come out, I think climbing on the other side here is careful, isn’t it? I’m going to see who that is. I want to see where Karlijn climbed all the way up there. Wow that’s Karlijn extremely beautiful extremely beautiful yes hey you’re forgetting someone aren’t you and here is mom
Of course I had forgotten for a while so I came over to mom to show her. of course we went to Death Valley, we even stayed there for 7 days and then drove on to Utah. again we traveled through Utah for a month. We couldn’t get enough of this state and our
Truck high on wheels came in handy here. In addition to visiting the famous parks such as Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park, we mainly went off the beaten track, the first being the Hole in Rock Road. a 90 km long gravel road in seven days
We drove this road where we visited the most cool places, the coolest slot Canyon that we walked in North America was the Peekaboo and the Spooky Slot Canyon. I made a tough day walk alone where I had to cross a river six times to arrive at the magical golden
Cathedral and finally after we walked the challenging last kilometers of the We arrived at the Hole In The Rock, a historic place with an amazing view over Lake Powell. Of the National Parks, Capitol Reef perhaps surprised us the most. This relatively little-visited Park has unprecedented landscapes
And colors and here too a 4×4 comes in handy. After a river crossing we start the Cathedral Valley loop that goes in and out of the park at the Bentonite Hills just outside the national Park. We were blown away by the alien landscapes.
What a place, this really bizarre, as if we were on another planet. I’ve never seen anything like this before, the colors are so intense. We drove the most cool unpaved routes through Utah with countless hidden gems along the way and of course we did
Not miss the Little Wild Horse Slot Canyon with its fantastic structures and Goblin State Park and we also went wild camping in the most cool places like here at the Little Grand Canyon. During that month in Utah we didn’t encounter more than a few hamlets.
Utah is really in the top three coolest states for us and after a visit to the Bonneville Salt Flats we said goodbye with mixed feelings. We quickly went north through Nevada, Idaho and eventually Wyoming to the Grand Teton National Park where
The roads were just clear of snow again. then we visited the impressive Yellowstone National Park with its geizers and colors and where we also saw our first bears. Our road continued north and it was mid-May when we finally
Crossed the border into Canada. We drove up a little traveled logging road looking for a nice spot where we could stay a little longer. a place with water, one with a view and a nice place for the children
To play freely. How lucky we were that we were tipped off by a local about his favorite camping spot, a place that stole our hearts, we camped there for no less than seven days During the first four days we were alone on the way to Banff and
Encountered an old snow avalanche, which unfortunately meant we had to make a long detour. We were prepared for a huge tourist crowd in Banff and Jasper National Park, but at the end of May this was not too bad, especially if
You are prepared to walk a bit, you will leave most of the tourists far behind in Edmonton. We visited an old school friend and got we get a glimpse into real cowboy life. From Edmonton we really drove miles north, it was still
A long way to Alaska. In total we drove on the Alaska Highway for three weeks, partly because there was so much beauty to see, but also because we wanted to wait until the weather in Alaska was better. We made a trip to Skagway in Alaska where we
Learned about the fascinating gold rush era before taking the ferry to Haines and heading back north to Canada and the Alaska Highway. We arrived in Haines Junction exactly at the time of a First Nations Dance Festival. We participated in
As many workshops as possible and were amazed by the dance performances. We were also confronted by the history that still affects everyday life. We drove the last kilometers to Alaska via Kluane Lake. Well, whether we were so unlucky crossing the border the first time, I do
N’t know, but it certainly makes it a lot easier. Unexpectedly, we even got the 180 days again without having to do anything. show to ask for and we didn’t even have to pay for that and then the Alaska adventure could begin. We started
In the St Elias Wrangell National Park via the Nabesna Road we drove to an abandoned mine and then went south in the park to Kennicott but we had some delay at the Copper River, we unexpectedly arrived at the great salmon migration that had already started here on time.
After a very gloomy month of June with a lot of rain, we arrived exactly during the first days of summer and so the four of us walked up the Root Glacier in summer clothes on the way to Valdez, we were one surprise after another and took a
Boat tour to the Maeres Glacier where we also saw a lot of wildlife. This is a bit heavy. On the way to Anchorage we braved this steep mountain for a phenomenal view of the Matanuska Glacier. We drove south to Homer and back and saw and learned so much about salmon migration.
Welcome to the salmon podcast where you can all see how you make salmon. How salmon go. First they are born and then they slowly swim to the lake. to the oceans but when they grow up they first become this and then this and then this and
Then their heads start thinking Hey I have to go back where I was born and then they go back to that and then bears can grab them but where they then go back to the place where they were born and what they have to do is swim very fast
Against the current. clever, right? Yes, really clever. And do you want to tell us more about the salmon or is this the end of the salmon podcast? Bye. Near Seward we camped for a few days in this wide, now dry river and again we took a boat trip to glaciers and saw
The impressive so-called bubble net fishing of a large group of whales. We also made the enormous climb to the Exit Glacier and the Harding Icefield, my absolute highlight during this trip. We did not know in advance how impressive and unique this
View was because if we had known this we would have let the children climb another viewpoint in instead of completing the total 15 km and 1000 meter ascent on my own. Pascal has already been to the next viewpoint and that was so much
Nicer than where I was with the children and the idea is to walk even further. Well, we’ll see. In any case, it’s a really steep climb, but the view is there. and then suddenly this was it. It’s bizarre. It’s really bizarre that a view like
This can be achieved in a day walk. It’s really bizarre. I mean, you expect a view like this during a multi-day walk or an expensively paid Scenic Flight. but not after a few hours of working in Alaska we met our friends the mosquitoes again while traveling. We went
Gold panning together and also took a cool hike on the Hatcher Pass before exploring Denali National Park. unfortunately there were clouds in front of the famous Mount Denali in mid-August it was time to leave Alaska the beautiful unpaved Denali Highway and the Top of the World Highway took us
Across the border to Canada and eventually over the ferry to Dawson City in the old gold mining town Of course we first looked for gold before we started the final journey to the Arctic Sea. Hey ladies where are we going? to the North Pole, to the North Pole, well not quite
After the North Pole but at least as far as we get because we have just started on the Dempster Highway and the Dempster Highway that leads us all the way to Tuktoyaktuk and that
Is located on the Arctic Sea or the North Pole sea, right? Yes And who’s going to swim with us in Yes, you’re coming with me in the ice-cold water Yes, I want to try it, you too, we’re going together
Karlijn Well then I’m going to put on a winter wetsuit first. or are you going to film us? Traveling with the mosquito, we explored Tombstone Park, said goodbye to each other and started the remaining 800 unpaved kilometers to Tuktoyaktuk and the Arctic Ocean.
Via a blubber road we reached the Arctic Circle where we were continuously surrounded by the amazingly beautiful autumn colors of the Tundra. After three days of driving, the Arctic Sea and Tuktoyaktuk finally came into view.
Well, here we are at the Arctic Sea, quite crazy actually, it has been going on for years. We actually plan to just drive from the northernmost tip of Canada to the south and then suddenly you’re there. It’s pretty crazy, I can’t really
Describe what that feels like, but it’s crazy. We didn’t swim, but we did jump with our feet in the ice-cold Arctic sea. Hey Nienke and Karlijn Didn’t we want to ask Dad something, Dad, are we going to Ushuaia? So where is Ushuaia? where is
That? The southernmost point of the world. Hey Karlijn, do you also want to go to Argentina? Yes, yes, that’s what we’re going to do, aren’t we going to Argentina? Well, let’s get on with it. Family Everywhere. The tundra in the autumn colors is absolutely the most beautiful autumn we
Have ever seen, unfortunately the way back was not entirely straightforward, a broken exhaust caused us to make a very noisy trip south to Whitehorse to have it repaired there. From now on our path will only go south and we did so at a high pace. Alaska and the
Far north of Canada, just when we thought it couldn’t get any cooler or more impressive, we once again experienced a superlative experience and were surprised again by this incredibly crazy glacier. We had not yet had enough of the deserted wilderness of Canada
And since there were no more bears to be seen at the bear olatform in Hyder, we drove the long and steep road down to Bella Coola, where the salmon migration was still in full swing. And was it not the
Ask if we saw a bear, but from which side in the 48 hours we were we saw more than 30 grizzlies bears. Unfortunately, on the way back we got a flat tire and it was still a challenge to replace it. Since the nuts
Were stuck to the wall. We drove on to Vancouver and crossed the border to America for the last time after having traveled around for almost a year. little inhabited world, it really took some getting used to the hustle and bustle of the
West coast. on our way south we visited the Olympic National Park, we walked the cool Skyline Trail in the Mount Rainier National Park and we drove into California via the Crater Lake National Park where we were amazed by the immense Redwood trees. We drove the 1
All the way down to San Francisco but as non-city lovers we settled for a beautiful sunset at the Golden Gate Bridge and a quick visit to the city itself. The past few months have been overwhelming again and we once again experienced that feeling of travel fatigue.
Camping is extremely challenging in the inhabited areas we had been living more or less next to the road for weeks, but fortunately we finally found a nice place to relax in the eastern Sierra Nevada. It was now mid-October and the sun and the beach of Mexico were calling us loudly, very loudly,
Through a visit We drove to Yosemite National Park and then to King’s Canyon and Sequoia National Park to Los Angeles. We had an appointment there with a couple we met in Alaska where we would celebrate Halloween. Unfortunately we had problems with the delivery
Of our new tires and ended up staying for more than three weeks. When the tires were finally on we could continue our way to Mexico where we finally drove in on November 23, what an immensely cool time we had in Canada and America, the unspoiled nature, the diverse
Landscapes, the animals, it was a great adventure and although Mexico is officially Also part of North America, the border crossing feels different this time. now we continue our way to Central and South America and we look forward to the culture and everything that awaits us there
In Baja California we slow down for a while before we take the ferry to the mainland we enjoy the sun the warmth beach and the whales around us. If you enjoyed watching this video, give us a thumbs up and even better, leave a comment about what
You thought. Also click the bell if you don’t want to miss a video of all our adventures in Mexico
Over ons
