I am currently embarked on a journey to explore the enchanting cities and towns along the Romantic Road, with Harburg being one of my notable stops.
The captivating allure of Harburg Castle caught my attention, and I was so intrigued that I resolved to go on a journey by foot to visit it.
Despite the physical challenge, ascending to the castle’s summit proved to be a rewarding workout, and the panoramic views from the top made every step worthwhile.

The Harburg on the Romantic Road is one of the largest, oldest and best-preserved castle complexes in southern Germany and towers over the town of the same name, Harburg an der Wörnitz.
The history of the Harburg can be proven to go back to the year 1150, a time in which the way of life differed from today in many respects. And yet a piece of these bygone eras has been preserved at the Harburg. A tour through the once Staufer-era imperial castle still provides impressive insights into a time long gone. The Harburg has been linked to the House of Oettingen for over 700 years.
The Harburg survived numerous sieges, battles and wars. It once served as the residence and seat of government for rulers, and imperial and royal celebrities were received.
