Del 88 Sådan sparede vi 20 sømil på en transportsejlads

We are on our way through Bøgestrømmen. And with our draft of 2 metres, there is not as much of a safety margin as we usually like. But with a becalmed weather forecast and a saving of 20 nautical miles, it should be possible. Now that we’re here, we might as well enjoy it.

Even though the sonar says we should stand on the ground. It’s divine. For us, it’s not about experiencing the world. But about experiencing the world we live in. Even though the weather can be changeable. The experiences lines up as soon as we let go of the moorings. This is Sailing CLAN

We are half way through Bøgestrømmen. We are doing fine. After all, we had looked at the Danish Weatherforecast Institute. They have promised 30 cm above normal water and that true. We have water under the keel. But of course we have to keep an eye on it all the time.

And then just keep an eye on the chart. we’re okey. So far. Behind me is the Isle of Nyord. Which is definitely worth a visit. We have been there before in our old boat. We had a fantastically pleasant day there in the small town there.

Now we are on the way into the last part where it is shallow. And we have seen that in some places… The thing is. Do not look at the sonar because it is deceiving. Seaweed. After all, it grows above the bottom. That’s what the echo sounder reaches.

There has been a lot of seaweed. When we get out where there is less shallow. Then we’ll reverse just to get the seaweed off the rudder. I can feel the steering wheel shaking a bit. Then it’s just off in a deep channel afterwards. We did it. We saved 20 nautical miles.

As you can see, we are well out of Bøgestrømmen. We live in a time where people talk about us having problems with not having enough insects. I have found the solution. They are not on land anymore, they are simply out at sea.

Because today when it is as calm as it is. The boat is packed with small insects today. So, dear biologists and all of you who are in favor of combi-naturics and everything else. “They are here!”. Get out on the water. They’re not gone.

Anyway, I’m tired of them and I they’ll go into my mouth all the time. Even if it’s motoring all day. And it’s not exactly what I prefer. It’s actually pretty idyllic to sail in here. It doesn’t matter that much.

It is not that bad to sail far when there is something to look at at all time. It’s more the long stretches without land that are a bit boring. I think we’ll probably have something to look all day. It will work. It’s actually quite nice. It really has become summer.

It’s a bit of a long and boring trip motoring. It’s all about entertaining yourself. Claes has decided that he is going to checkmate my King. Once more. Even one or three times more. Then time passes while playing. I’m excited to see how many moves it will take this time.

Normally we’re down to 9, I think. We’ll look into it. 12 moves!!!?! We succeeded. After 12 hours, there has come a bit of wind. Enough for us to sail 5 knots with sail. It is 0.2-0.3 faster than motoring. It’s just a matter of taking advantage of it.

I think we have 9 nautical miles to go to where we will anchor for the night. It paid off geting the sails up. We have arrived at the anchorage for the night. We have sailed into the edge of Nakskov Fjord. Eneøje is here.. uhhhh. Enehøje… Erhmmm…

Which was previously owned by the polar researcher Peter Freuchen. We were here many years ago. In fact so many years that Claes was in a pram. Back then we were staying in the harbor right behind me. There we took the dinghy. And sailed around to these small islands inside Nakskov Fjord.

After all, there are several of them who are quite famous. Among those is Enehøje. The reason we have chosen to anker here is because it is a good spot. It has been a long day motoring. We had planned it. The weather forecast said winds will turn easternly.

It will remain so throughout the night and into the morning as well. I had looked at where we could anchor. This was just perfect for us. It is quite nice in this anchorage. It will be nice to relax. It is clear as the sky after such a long day we are tired.

We are worn out and it will not get better tomorrow. Yet another long day ahead. But it’s great to have come so far in such a short time. It has not been rough sailing. It’s just been a long leg today. Now it’s time for dinner. Sascha is making pasta with meat sauce.

It’s lightning fast to make. That meal gives a lot of energy. It’s good. It won’t be long before the sun sets and then we’ll probably also go to bed. There is no doubt that I can recommend anchoring. Both in general but also when you have these long transport voyages.

Normally, on the long transport voyages, you arrive late in port. Then the harbor is usually jam-packed. You still have to pay full price and if you sail early the next morning, you won’t really get anything out of this port money. If you find an anchorage instead.

You can arrive as late as you want. You will easily find a spot to anchor. And takes no time to set sail the next morning. Plus you have nature to enjoy during the evening. We’ve had dinner. It was not the great culinary experience. But it was quick to make.

It’s good to have some food in my belly. There hadn’t been much eating today. Now calm has settled around the ship. we have cleaned all up. Washed the dishes. We’re enjoying this anchorage. I just need a sundowner. I missed it yesterday. Because we had forgotten to put the beers in the fridge.

A warm beer. I don’t want that. Just a single beer to sleep on. And watch the sun slowly set. We feel good. We are already sailing again. After a really nice night at Enehøje on the west side of the island. Because the easterly wind set in last night.

We have had a good night’s sleep. The sun rose about 45 minutes ago. We are already on our way out of the channel in Nakskov Fjord. Headed towards Flensburg Fjord. It’s gennaker weather. It is the 3rd day of sailing. Today it will be from morning to evening again.

Tonight we are hoping that we have arrived in Flensburg Fjord. From Friday afternoon to Sunday evening we sailed from Copenhagen to Flensburg Fjord. Now we have to see if it will happen. The day will tell. It is stunning. We had to start the engine here very briefly.

We are located off the southern tip of Langeland, just off Keldsnor. The deep water route is right out there. We sailed with the gennaker 2.5 knots across the ground due to a countercurrent.

There we could see that we would be a bit too long in the route and a couple of huge ships are coming from the south. We had a CPA of 0 meters. We just had to turn on the engine to get over and away the route. Then we can hoist the gennaker again.

That’s how it is sometimes. We hoisted the gennaker again and rounded Keldsnor. Here the wind increases and the sea becomes somewhat choppy. I’m standing thinking about the load on the gear and can’t find peace. Because does the gear lasts?

Can we even possibly avoid all the boats that are on their way from the South Funen archipelago on their way back to Germany? And how do we get the gennaker down if the wind increases? We have taken the gennaker down. It started to become… The wind picked up a bit.

We started rolling more. We moved hard from starboard to portside and almost cut shet. And then all the way over to the other side again. I thought that now it wouold become narley. Plus the wind should pick up a bit more later today.

We made the decision to take the gennaker down and hoist the mainsail because it is a little easier to handle. We have lost about 1 knot by doing that. On the other hand, it is somewhat more pleasant to sail. It’s actually okay. That is the balance you have to make.

It went pretty well with the gennaker until it didn’t. Then calm returns to the ship. Because even if CLAN tips sways from side to side, it doesn’t matter. We haven’t been on land for three days. We have found our sea legs. And life is beautiful.

Then what we have dreamed of for so long happens. I think it is mostly Dennis who has read books by Troels Kløvedal. It has never been me to read those kinds of books. But there is one thing that I can remember several times that the entire family has talked about.

And it is the experience of seeing dolphins swimming out at the bow of your boat. We will not experience any quite like that in Denmark. We know that there are a few dolphins, of us who sail. But a porpoise that lies and swims at the bow.

If you say here I have the bow, then the porpoise lay and swam out in front of the bow and of course made its jumps once in a while. I got high on adrenaline. So it was an amazing experience. I really hope that these recordings are worth it.

We have reached Sønderborg, which is located behind me. Something has happened to the wind. It has almost disappeared. From the fact that we had difficulty steering the gennaker to the fact that we were sailing 2.5 knots just by the rig. Now we are drifting 3.5-4 knots just with the mainsail. But it’s nice.

It’s pure hygge. The advantage is that we don’t have to reach anything. I think it’s nice out here on the water today. I think it has been really, really hot on land today. We sailed the last few nautical miles to Stranderød Bay. Where we will spend the night.

But you will have to wait and see that next week. [Dennis makes noises] There it came. There was the “in-the-[water] scream”. I’m swimming! [Claes laughs] [Dennis makes more noises] Okay, it is cold. Really? Argh! It was warmer last year. Uhh… Uhhhh…. I’m peeing. Ohhh… Now it’s warm! It’s just because you peed.

Claes, just get in the water. It’s warm now. Claes I’ve warmed it up for you. Claes it is warm water now.

Vi er cirka et ½ døgn inde i sommerferien og sejler gennem Bøgestrømmen.
Vinden bliver væk og derfor hjælper motoren. Lidt vind kommer og vi lander ved en smuk og god ankerplads ved Enehøje.
Dagen efter sejler vi videre mod Flensborg Fjord. Det bliver en dag med gennaker, storeren, og forsejl, fart på og ingen fart. Afslapning og adrenalinkick.
