CHIANG MAI Day Trip to Doi Suthep | Thailand Travel Vlog

Today we’re in Chiang Mai and I think we have  such a fun day planned we are just leaving   our hotel and we’re going to get some lunch and  then head over to a site called Doi Suthep I think

It’s a national park the um there’s a temple in  it and some waterfalls and we’re super excited   we’ve been trying to get there all week but it  just hasn’t worked out yet so I think it’s going

To be a really fun day today yeah once again we  are having some khao soi the the like most famous   dish from this region yes and our absolute favorite  we’ve had it like every day this week maybe yeah

Ever since we we tried it like a week into being  here and ever since I think we’ve had it every day yep I think we’re going to  get some chicken khao soi and   oh some pork satay two of Marshall’s favorites oh my

Gosh so we were just going to get the uh uh khao soi  which is like that Curry dish with chicken and   like some fried noodles on top which just been  like one of the best things best I’ve ever had but

I’ve also been loving this satay which is just like  it’s just meat skewers but they’re really really   good here and there’s a lot of different varieties  um it looks like this one is this like a peanut sauce I

Don’t know I thought maybe peanut sauce I think so  yeah I mean it’s always really good it’s like very   simple but it kind of has like a curry flavor this  one oh really yeah that’s so good actually um yeah

And then this we try out every day it’s like like  this Curry base super creamy it’s like there’s   some coconut juice in it right or like coconut  cream I I actually really don’t know I think

There is but it’s it’s a little creamy and then  the noodles on top give it a nice Crunch and a lot   of times they’ll give you a whole chicken leg with  it yeah it’s just so good we already know it’s

Going to taste amazing barely taken one bite and my whole hand is sticky somehow already so every time that   we’ve gotten khao soi it’s served with this little side  plate of I don’t actually know what these are it’s

Just some pickled vegetables some raw red onions  which I’m going to add some and some lime and I   haven’t really been able to taste the lime I put  it in every time but I haven’t been able to taste

A huge difference but I love lime so I always add it too  I’m already dreading leaving this place because we’re   going to miss khao soi so much this has been my  favorite maybe my favorite dish in Thailand like it’s

Been probably top five dishes of the whole trip  yeah like it’s I was scared it was overhyped but   seriously it’s so good this is such a popular dish  it took us forever to try it and I’m sad that we

Missed out on all the days that we did just as  good as yesterday that was such a bad bite but yes it’s so good Listo listo so now to get to Doi Suthep we need  to find a shoot I already forgot what they’re

Called Songthaew a Songthaew which I think we  were told they’re called something different   here but essentially they’re red trucks that are  kind of like taxis but not really they’re a very   different mode of transportation than we’re  used to you kind of just flag them down and

If they’re empty or even if yeah if they  have room you just tell the driver where   you’re going they can say yes or they can say  no and you just hop in the back it’s like an   open kind of truck and um then you go it’s not  necessarily more efficient because sometimes

If they have other people in the car they’ll  just kind of go around in circles until they   drop everybody off sometimes it’s really  not efficient yeah sometimes we literally   could have walked there faster and it was a 45  minute ride but it’s only a dollar for a ticket

Really so so usually they’re nice now with us  going kind of out a little outside of the city   maybe it’ll be fine if we can get somebody  to take us there but let’s see what we can find so so 600 there and back 600 okay  so for for 600 you go there wait

And then come back here as well  oh yeah yeah okay okay good 600 600 so I’m not sure exactly where we’re  going first but it looks like he can take   us to Doi Suthep and to um the waterfall a lot of  the things I read online was like you

Have to pay another red truck to get  you to the waterfall and then you do   the hike but he’s just going to take us to both it seems hopefully we’ll see we don’t really know

This may or may not go well but either way it should be fun we  should get to see at least the waterfall I think hopefully they really jack up the price for foreigners  it’s 20 baht for an adult and 100 baht for

A foreign adult well our driver said we  could be here for an hour and we’ve been   walking for 30 seconds and we’re already  at the waterfall well I think it does look   like there’s a trail there’s a trail there’s  some steps where is it right here some steps

It looks like it’s coming up it’s like  coming out so violently at the top it looks   like there’s this like a a spring or a jet up  there that’s just facing out it’s weird I’m

Excited I hope the trail like takes us to where  we can see the top cuz it literally just looks   like a jet coming out yeah it does waterfalls  are always some of my favorite spots to go to

I am happy anytime we can go see a waterfall  I think we’re going to hike up to the top now   I didn’t even I feel like an hour is going to  go by pretty fast we were actually hanging out

Down there for a while I saw I saw him at the  bottom and he said one or two hours is fine oh sweet I thought we were just going  to get a view from the top of the   waterfall we were just at but  there’s an even better oh my

Gosh but there’s an even better one up here I really hope we went up a lot of elevation  on our ride here cuz otherwise I’m very out   of shape even with that I’m really  out of shape these stairs are killing me babe guess what it’s Saturday

Night Market yeah oh our favorite  one yeah we’ve been in Chiang Mai for a little   less than two weeks and unfortunately we’re  leaving tomorrow which is Sunday which means   we’re not going to be able to go to the  Sunday Night Market which is the biggest

One but last Saturday we stumbled across the  Saturday night market which we loved so if   we’re if we have enough energy tonight  we’ll go there on our way home oh hi I didn’t see the dog seriously note to anybody  who gets motion sick take medicine bring

Medicine to Chiang Mai these are some rough rides  you doing okay or get a scooter or get a   scooter that’s probably yeah yeah that  probably that would probably be completely fine this place is definitely more  crowded than our first stop

So much more crowded which we  knew it would be this is not a surprise I love this whole walkway yeah  the snakes going down it I think these   are the the Naga the um Naga stairs yeah  yeah the snake that Legend has it carved

Oh carved the um some rivers in the like North  Eastern Thailand and Laos I forgot you did tell   me that yeah that’s cool I completely  forgot about that yeah these dragons are crazy I’m super surprised this place is  so much cheaper than the waterfall that

We were just at these were 30 baht  each so 60 total and we 200 total   for the waterfall 230 cuz the car  this is surprisingly cheaper so   two bucks versus like seven yeah so still  nothing too bad but I just like knowing the price wow oh it’s so pretty

Wow I feel like the phone there’s  no way this is captured no this is beautiful I think we can so easily spend  hours here but our driver is probably very   much getting close at at least to being ready  to leave here so I think we’re going to have

To kind of rush around cuz we don’t want to  overstay our welcome with that driver he’s   been nice to us he’s been very nice I think we  really yeah we didn’t communicate well at the

Beginning of it so he’s been very nice all right  yeah let’s go so we’re going to try to hurry around at least the scaffolding matches  it’s all gold yeah that’s funny yeah barely noticed

Well we were at least able to walk around all of  that but an hour goes by super fast and there that   went by so fast I think we’ve even been here more  than an hour so we’re going to go find our driver

I think here it may be a little bit harder to  find our driver cuz there were when we pulled   up there was like 15 of those trucks here on  that same road but hopefully you can find it

And then by the time we get back to the town  the night market will be open so we can go find some food cool okay we’re going to save you from a  long bumpy ride and we’ll see you at the night market

And it’s it’s it’s probably the least  like adventurous food we’ve had on this whole   trip but we’re obsessed with it it’s literally  just fried it’s just like fried coconut juice yeah yeah

We had such an incredible time exploring Doi Suthep!!!

Thailand has been one of our favorite spots in the whole world to explore, and we feel so lucky to have had the chance to spend so much time here! We have spent time in both Bangkok and Chiang Mai and neither have disappointed at all. Our current location, Chiang Mai, is such an amazing town and is much smaller than Bangkok which allows it to have some more charm.

There is also so much natural beauty surrounding the town of Chiang Mai, some of which we got to explore in this video! We started out with the obligatory bowl of khao soi which has quickly become one of our favorite meals of the trip. From here, we tracked down one of Chiang Mai’s famous red trucks (Songthaew), which are like public taxis, to take us outside of the town. The driver was able to take us to Doi Suthep to see some amazing waterfalls and an incredible-looking temple!

The Montha Than Waterfall was gorgeous and had a surrounding hike to explore more than what is first seen when walking up. We loved the opportunity to enjoy a more secluded second set of waterfalls by taking some time on this trail!

After about an hour here, our driver took us to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, the temple inside of the park. This sight also required a little bit of a hike up its Naga staircase to the entrance to the temple. Once inside, we couldn’t believe how big and beautiful the grounds were!

We really enjoyed both of these stops and made it back for our driver to take us back into town. Luckily, we were able to get back in time for the much anticipated Saturday night market which we will show off in the next video!

    1. You disappeared into silence, understanding that when you returned to your country, I met you in Chiang Mai. I'm glad to see your good clips, which are interesting and straightforward, with good nature. I really like them and will always encourage you both to travel. It's fun TH

    2. The red Song Taew Truck is combination of everything. You can hire them as a taxi, ride it as a routed bus or can be a car-pooling. There is no specific route for them. If you see it empty, you can tell them where you want to go, and they normally will take you there and they might pick up some other people that are going in the same direction. However, when you see some passengers are already on the truck, you still can take it. If your destination is not on opposite direction, they will accept you. So, you should tell them every time about your destination and ask them how much it costs.

    3. I'm a Thai people, and I paid for Songtaew to Doi Suthep go and back for 600 baht same as you. And I had 2 hrs on the temple. … That was Thai people price. 👍
