Fethiye KAYAKÖY: Tarihi RUM Evleri (Yağmur suyunu biriktirmişler!)

They were collecting the water on the roof of this house and the well here with the gutter system as I mentioned, and they were using it . Look, the water well is very logical. Look, people are building smart houses like this right now, but

The Greeks thought about this in the past. When the Fethiye earthquake occurred in 1957, many of them collapsed like that. But still, I think it is very strong. I guess they are blessing music here . Hello friends, welcome to my YouTube channel. Today,

We are in the abandoned Kayaköy in the Fethiye district of Muğla. Today, I will show you around this village. There are approximately 3500 houses here, there are churches and chapels. We will visit them and see them on site. Friends, now, if you are ready, all together, Kayaköy. Let ‘s

Visit viene de la monta viento tros la carid Que viene de monta viento daos la claridad Kayaköy is one of the less frequented tourist stops of Fethiye today but is one of the most liked by those who go there. It looks like a ghost village with its half-destroyed stone houses, churches, chapels

And pottery workshop. It was established on the slope of the city . The houses belong to the Greek settlement, which was built in the second half of the 19th century and the first quarter of the 20th century and was called Levissi in those years. The buildings

In the city, which were evacuated as a result of the population exchange of 1919, developed from simple rectangular-shaped housing structures to a more developed structure consisting of the Cistern Courtyard main space with the increase in income level. In addition to the houses, which do not block light and

Are mostly 50 square meters in size, there are 14 chapels, two churches, two school buildings and a customs building. In the basements of the houses, which are generally windowless and low, there are pit elements used in leather production. There are furnaces used for heating and cooking in almost every room of the houses

And loaders around them. Kayaköy and its surroundings have been designated as a 3rd degree archaeological and urban protected area and 760 buildings have been registered as cultural assets that need to be protected . Let me turn my camera right at the entrance of Kayaköy. Friends, we started our video next to a church.

Entrance to the church is currently prohibited due to life safety. Because The officials here said that some stones may roll down, that’s why. Well, now we will start our trip . There are more than 300 houses here. Friends,

I am tired here. Are you tired? Hmm, let’s rest then . We are going up a very steep hill. The sun is hitting us from above. Let me show you the stairs. This is the stairs. Old stones. Streets. Dad, I can’t look around the wide area much. Yes,

Friends, we took a rest break here. Yes, we are very tired. For example, they did not build their houses in the plains. Friends, the houses are generally built on the slope of a mountain on the back. What do you think are the reasons for this? Why did the Greeks in the past

Prefer the slope of such a mountain? What do you think, we are waiting in the comments, friends , there is a church. The smallest one. So, while passing through this road, they built such chapels to fulfill their beliefs and rituals. Let me show you right here. There is a Watchtower over there.

In order to protect the city here, they built watchtowers at some dominant points. Because Pirates are coming from the sea and the Pirates are plundering where they come. For this, they built watchtowers to defend the city from sudden capture. This is very close to the Dead Sea, right behind that hill,

Ölüdeniz, there are two churches and about 60 chapels. Here, let’s show you one of these chapels. Yes, this is how it looks from the outside. Now let me show you from the inside. You can tell that people come here

And say their prayers and make candles from here. This is also a place to light candles, especially here they put candles, they light their candles, they make their wishes, when I climb up, it’s a little easier to go up. In fact,

You get tired, but when we go down from the top, we go down a ramp like this. Be careful not to slip or fall. Isn’t it beautiful ? Sibel, when you think of these streets in the past,

Age has made them very ugly, but I mean, look at the old buildings. Yes, this is the soul of this city in the past. Look at the new buildings . I wonder if the soulless past was more beautiful. Yes, now people do not go back to the past.

I understand your wish better. Don’t we want to go back to 10-15 years ago ? Yes , you have found the easy way, you are moving forward, Arin. Yes, I was having a hard time just now. The houses are very small

. Deniz, the houses are so small that I don’t think they are even 50 square meters. I mean, part of them has an oven as a kitchen anyway. Well, there is something in one part of it. I looked at one house and saw that they had made a room

Like this, 1.5 meters wide and 2 meters long . There is something separated like this in the other corner of the kitchen. It could probably be a bathroom type thing, or the lower floors are mostly occupied by leather business. Those who live here are yes. It’s a leather workshop

, it’s very beautiful, but look at it. Look inside the houses. Look at the sea. Look at the house. There’s a tiny, tiny room. Let’s show you. No, be careful, please. Look, my friends said that the houses are two-storey houses. The lower floors are used as warehouses and workshops because they do

Leather embroidery. The upper part is the living area. Look, it has a fireplace, I noticed something here. Huh, so the house looks like a face. Is it right there? Yes, the eyes and mouth made it look like something, didn’t they ? Yes, we actually see these through the eyes of a child.

The toilets of the house are right outside. Let me show you one of them, look at it like this, Friends. Is this a toilet? As you know, in old houses, toilets were built outside the house. The water comes from the top.

It’s like a water channel. This is also a water collection area, but there are stairs. Look, it must be the sea. They collect that water. Look, friends, the water collection point is right on the roof. They collect water from the rain water. They collect the rain water.

Look, they used this place too. I think they used to remove the fountain from here. This staircase was probably used to intervene and clean it from here. It makes sense. Look, people are building smart houses like this now, but the Greeks thought about this in the past,

What beautiful houses they built. Sea, look, the cream and blue paints are very A. Yes, it’s red. How beautiful is the interior of this house, Sibel? Look, which house is it? It has two chimneys. Look, there’s a fireplace there. Maybe the side belongs to someone else .

Please don’t go in. No, I won’t go in. It might be another house from here . Let’s go through the toilet. It looks like it’s here. Yes, this is the one outside but connected to the inside. Are we trying to go to the church there ? Oh yes, let’s go there first.

Get off slowly. It’s dangerous. The roads are rocky and stony, so you don’t fall. Okay, son, I’m stepping on the ground. Because there are footprints and stuff. It’s the architecture of that time. The buildings are more developed today, I think. The men also have intelligence, right? Like the Chinese. Yes, they are

Intelligent. Yes , just as they found that water well, they also found other things. Where will we go? Because that church is there, Arin, look. This is the entrance of this house. Yes, I guess you should stay here, don’t go in, don’t go in.

My son, come in. You, father, look, they have always looted the door tops, your friends have removed the stones. Father, please do not touch, otherwise, if you touch it, something may break. They were collecting the water on the roof of this house, as I mentioned, with the gutter system, in the

Well here, and they were using it. Look, the water well men, even in those times, they collected and used the roof water, now it is a taxi. We are in front of the church, that is, the upper church. There is also the lower church.

We already showed the lower church at the beginning of our video. This is the upper church. There is a sign like this right in front of the church. It says that the church is closed to visitors due to life safety. It is even locked with a lock. It was probably closed

Due to the stones falling from the roof . Yes, the church. Front view This place is locked. Of course, when the earthquake happened in 1957, many of them were demolished like that. But they are still very solid. I think normally the houses built in our country

Are decided to be demolished directly after 40 years. They did not come and settle here later. Instead, they took away the doors and windows of this one, they took away the roof because it was very old, that is, it was very hilly. Yes friends , there is also a chapel here,

The smaller ones of the church, which we can call a small church. It is one of the small churches in the neighborhood where people pray. The chapel is right here. Let’s show it from here. This is the window. Don’t come through the window. I’ll show you like this. Arin. I wonder if

There is a door. There is a school or a castle on the top. The door is there. They are probably making a blessing here . Can’t they remove the wood? Yes, look. The door has been removed from here, but it’s the whole thing there. We couldn’t remove it, it’s stuck there,

Look, it’s not slippery, it’s not slippery, look, there’s a building over there, it has a pattern on it, it’s patterned. Yes, it’s another one of the faith centres. There are 3500 households, so if an average of 3-4 people live in each house, it corresponds to a population of 10-15 thousand.

There are many small churches and large churches in it . Yes, friends, today we have come to the end of our village tour. I hope you liked the video. We would be very happy if you like our video and share it with your loved ones to receive more such content.

See you in the next village trip. Goodbye. Goodbye.
