Welcome aboard as we embark on day five of our Viking Grand European river cruise today we end up in the town of Milton barck so get ready for a little bit of Fun this was one of our longest continual cruises we started the previous day in calance and sailed down the middle rine and then in the evening we turned left on the mine River and sailed overnight until midafternoon when we reached our destination of miltenburg as with the Rin River camping

Is very popular but unlike the Rind the mine is not a super highway in terms of river traffic like we saw on the Rind it doubles back on itself it just seems to be in no rush to get to the mouth at MES when one of the ancient names for the

River is Mo and is said to mean crooked snake which is a very apt description indeed you’ll notice that the railings and equipment on the top deck are all folded down and for very good reason and as we approach to the lock and go under this bridge you can see exactly why

Notice that even the pilot house has been lowered and there is simply no room under the bridge this was the way it was for for the almost the entire length of the mine here we enter one of the many many locks on the mine and it takes a while

To go through these hence the long trip overnight down the mine many of the locks are next to power plants with dams on them and we simply wait until the water is pumped into the lock raising the ship 10 to 15 ft or so then the lock gates

Open and we sail into to the higher part of the mine River there are a total of 34 locks along the mine along with 33 hydr power stations the time spent going through the locks makes a fairly long cruise there are many Charming little Villages along the mine and

Unfortunately we sailed most of it overnight and it was only the next morning that we were able to see some of the villages during lunch we sailed through miltenburg on the way to the city of fenberg and simply because there was no parking spaces left in miltenberg

Then we took a bus back from freudenberg past thir fudenberg finally until we reached miltenberg before boarding the buses in fudenberg I decided to get the Drone out to get a good look at the Viking Billy and as you can see it is truly a long ship but you can also see how

Milton Barrack’s version of October Fest it takes place the last Sunday in August and goes to the first Sunday in September and this is wooden beer tent constructed for just this twoe event in Milton bear there is also fun for the whole family with a big carnival area and a

Huge Ferris wheel but we opted to go back to the Beer tent and try some of the local beer from the brewery F we were really surprised at the extent of the construction of the beer tent all wood wood floors just with a canvas ceiling and of course the traditional beer tent Band As I said the local beer here is from the fa Brewery and it is only available here in miltenburg it is not exported anywhere else you can only get it in leader Stein inas but it’s easily sharable along with the pretzel if you will well that’s all the time we had so

We headed back to the bus for the short drive back up to freudenburg and have a little dinner well actually dessert as we set sail for verburg for the next day well that does it for miltenburg and we are very glad to have you along if
