SWISS A220 Business Class Trip Report šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§ London to Geneva šŸ‡ØšŸ‡Just Plain GOOD!

Hi there and welcome to The Queen’s Terminal,Ā  Terminal 2 here at London Heathrow Airport.Ā Ā  A few moments ago I just landed here on anĀ  Air Canada flight from Toronto and now I’mĀ Ā  connecting onto my 3rd flight of the itinerary. I was originally meant to fly directly from hereĀ Ā

To Brussels, but that Brussels Airlines flight wasĀ  canceled to Air Canada automatically rerouted meĀ Ā  via Geneva. I had yet to fly on one of SWISS’sĀ  A220-300s so I was happy enough for the switch.Ā  We landed in the satellite terminal which isĀ  where all of the intercontinental flights areĀ Ā

Found and now need to head undergroundĀ  to the main part of the terminal whichĀ Ā  is quite a walk, but there are moving walkways. Heathrow has four terminals in operation. 5, 3,Ā Ā  4 and 2 where we are now. In order to go throughĀ  the transfer security I needed to go to the mainĀ Ā

Terminal even though my plan was to walk straightĀ  back out to the satellite for a better lounge.Ā  The transit security here is very easy and evenĀ  though I didn’t have my onwards boarding pass,Ā Ā  they let me into the terminal by showing myĀ  itinerary. Once through I headed to the transferĀ Ā

Desk to pick up my next two boarding passes. Before we properly head into the terminal, letĀ Ā  me welcome any of you that are new to the channel.Ā  My name is Kevin and I am the Flip Flop Traveller.Ā  I’m here to give you honest content aboutĀ  flights, hotels and trains and cruises. IĀ Ā

Paid for this trip out of pocket and theĀ  price I paid is in the description below,Ā Ā  as always. SWISS had no knowledge I’d be filmingĀ  today and I didn’t receive any compensation fromĀ Ā  them. Everything in this video is my personalĀ  opinion based on my unique experience. The rest,Ā Ā

I’ll let speak for itself. Let’s get into it. Terminal 2 is the Heathrow home of the StarĀ Ā  Alliance- plus Aer Lingus. Lufthansa is one ofĀ  the founding members of the Star Alliance andĀ Ā  they own SWISS, just the airline, so here we are. If you have a business class ticket on any StarĀ Ā

Carrier, you’d be entitled to enterĀ  one of four lounges here. Lufthansa,Ā Ā  United, Singapore and Air Canada. CanĀ  you guess which one I’m heading to now?Ā  I feel pretty confident saying I can guaranteeĀ  you’re wrong. I had read some great things aboutĀ Ā

The United Club here so that’s where I’m headingĀ  now. Plus I heard they have nice shower suitesĀ Ā  as well. That being said, still now writing this,Ā  I’m surprised I didn’t goto the Singapore lounge.Ā  SWISS or formally Swiss International Air LinesĀ  has been around since 2002- kinda. Swissair,Ā Ā

Not to be confused with just SWISS, wentĀ  bankrupt in 2002. That same year theirĀ Ā  regional subsidiary Crossair transitioned toĀ  a new full service carrier, SWISS. SWISS’sĀ Ā  IATA code LX is a carry over from Crossair,Ā  though they took Swissair’s ICAO code in orderĀ Ā

To preserve their international traffic rights. In 2005, Lufthansa Group announced their intentionĀ Ā  to acquire SWISS and began with a small minorityĀ  stake, taking complete control by the end of 2007.Ā Ā  The year after SWISS acquired Edelweiss Air- andĀ  not much has changed, in a good way, since then.Ā

Note that if you want to goto the SatelliteĀ  terminal and need to come back to theĀ Ā  main terminal, like me- in the reverseĀ  direction there are no moving walkways.Ā  While the majority of the terminalsĀ  amenities are in the main building,Ā Ā

Both share the same modern design languageĀ  and everything is laid out in a wayĀ Ā  that makes navigation pretty easy. And here we are at the United Club.Ā  First thing I did was get a shower suite which wasĀ  much nicer than I expected and I love the bench toĀ Ā

Be able to open your bag easily. Can’t tell youĀ  how many times I’ve had to balance my suitcaseĀ Ā  on top of a sink, far too many times with anĀ  automatic faucet which wouldn’t cooperate.Ā  The lounge itself is one large room withĀ  benches and partitions dividing up theĀ Ā

Space. It was crowded while I was there butĀ  there were still plenty of seats available,Ā Ā  though not the prime wideside ones. There’s a large centerpiece bar andĀ Ā  a really nice buffet tucked away on one side. Overall, it was in fact a very nice lounge- moreĀ Ā

Modern than I was expecting and a nice selectionĀ  of food, but it did get even more crowded soĀ Ā  I decided to trek back to the main buildingĀ  and spend the rest of my time with Lufthansa.Ā  Here’s your friendly reminder to click thatĀ  like button, subscribe to the channel andĀ Ā

April. One of them was quite the doozy. And here is the Lufthansa Lounge. LastĀ Ā  time I was here I showed you the Senator LoungeĀ  behind this so today I’ll just focus up front.Ā  If you head down to the description you’llĀ  find my next five videos to come out as well asĀ Ā

Other bits and pieces like the soundtrack titlesĀ  featured in this video. On your way down there,Ā Ā  don’t forget to subscribe- I release fullĀ  length videos every Thursday and Saturday.Ā  This was interesting- I’ve never seenĀ  an airport publish their statistics likeĀ Ā

This. Some of them are pretty impressive. So there’s precisely one gate in the mainĀ Ā  building that is completely obstructed fromĀ  view and guess where my aircraft parked.Ā  Not to worry though because it’s twinĀ  going to Zurich was just next door.Ā  SWISS A220s really are beautiful birds. Boarding began around 10 minutes behindĀ Ā

Schedule, but it was quick from that point on. As we walk down the jet bridge maze, let’sĀ Ā  take a look at this afternoon’s flight stats. Stepping on board I was greeted by the purserĀ Ā  and quickly found my seat which was technicallyĀ  3C, but I sat in 3A. This is Euro business class-Ā Ā

The seats are the same as economy but normallyĀ  the center seat is left open. In this case sinceĀ Ā  the layout is 3-2, on this side you get bothĀ  seats to yourself. 3C was the only seat leftĀ Ā

On this side when my flights were changed. IfĀ  you do do what I did, I’d suggest not recliningĀ Ā  your seat during the flight when sitting inĀ  the ā€˜wrong’ seat since the person behind youĀ Ā  may have booked that seat specifically to avoidĀ  having someone in front of them. Just my 2 cents.Ā

Anyway, I love SWISS stuff. Is there aĀ  lot of legroom? No. Are these probablyĀ Ā  the most beautifully designed shortĀ  haul economy seats on the market? Yes.Ā  They’re just so smart looking. Bottles of water and wet wipesĀ Ā  were passed around and the safety video beganĀ  on the teeny tiny overhead screens- just nextĀ Ā

To the overhead air vents too. What’s that saying? Bird ofĀ Ā  a feather flug together? We headed to the runway asĀ Ā  the sun was starting to hang low and I got to getĀ  some beautiful shots of our twin going to Zurich.Ā  The spool up, take off andĀ  flight stats are coming up next.Ā

It was a little bit cloudy, a little bit hazy butĀ  still had some nice views as we climbed to ourĀ Ā  cruising altitude. Soon enough we were crossingĀ  the English Channel, France in the distance.Ā  SWISS offers complimentary service for BusinessĀ  Class and has a buy on board service for economy.Ā

I started out with a muchĀ  needed and refreshing beerĀ Ā  and then was served a really tasty little meal. I posted about this on my community page a whileĀ Ā  bag and asked what the name of it was. It wasĀ  essentially shredded creamed beef on the bottom,Ā Ā

Topped with some sort of horseradish cream. The responses I got were a bit all over theĀ Ā  places, from Shepard’s Pie to Beef Tartare toĀ  Cat Food. Charming. Two people mentioned itĀ Ā  could be bündnerfleisch, which I thought thatĀ  might be right, but I think they thought theĀ Ā

Beet slices on top were the meat I was speakingĀ  about. Anyway, if you think you know what thisĀ Ā  is called- the part of it with mustard seedsĀ  on top, please let me know in the comments.Ā  Whatever it was, it was delicious. Served alongĀ  side a crusty roll and my favorite TĆŖte de MoineĀ Ā

Cheese. For dessert, it was I believe anĀ  apricot or similar mouse with chocolate.Ā  After the meal service the crew of courseĀ  came around with chocolates in both cabins.Ā  The bathrooms were fresh and clean and I loveĀ  the layout on A220s. Also love the products thatĀ Ā

Swiss uses, Soeder’s brand Herbal Scent whichĀ  kind of pleasantly smacks you in the olfactory.Ā  Soon enough we were in final descent intoĀ  Geneva. It was pitch black outside and theĀ Ā  lights were kept on inside until the lastĀ  minute so this is a pretty short clip.Ā

I’ll just mention quickly aboutĀ  the service. Since his flight,Ā Ā  I’ve flown on SWISS 2 more times. That makes itĀ  five flights since I started the channel and myĀ Ā  conclusion thus far is, they’re becoming my 2ndĀ  most consistent airline. I’m not saying the best,Ā Ā

But just consistently pleasant, professional,Ā  friendly and always good food. SWISS is meantĀ Ā  to be the premium brand of the Lufthansa GroupĀ  and the crews at least do seem to act the part.Ā  Landing and airport stats are coming up soon. And that is that, I needed to walk the lengthĀ Ā

Of the airport and enter Switzerland so IĀ  could transit to my next flight on BrusselsĀ Ā  Airlines up to Brussels. Geneva is notĀ  really SWISS’s big transfer hub and whenĀ Ā  I asked someone which line I needed to be inĀ  for transit, they looked at me like I had twoĀ Ā

Heads. When I said I’m going to Brussels,Ā  from London, that turned into three heads.Ā  It is a pretty cool looking terminal though. That’ll do it for today, I really do hope youĀ Ā  enjoyed this video, if you did, please be sureĀ  to click that like button and subscribe withĀ Ā

Notifications on so you don’t miss any of myĀ  twice weekly videos. I’ll see you next time onĀ Ā  board that connecting flight I just mentioned. OhĀ  and as always, thanks for watching until the end.

This is NOT a promotional video. I pay for all of my flights and hotels (and I always tell you how much!) so I can be as honest and impartial as possible. I do not receive any special treatment that wouldn’t otherwise be publicly accessible, in fact, the hotels and airlines have no idea about my visit and that’s the way I like it!

    1. I know euro-business is what it is but I’m surprised you didn’t still decide to ding Swiss for blocked economy seats in business. Or is the idea that it’s all relative to other airlines in the region…?

My thought is, they do that because they can and it’s what everyone else is doing. Doesn’t make it good or right.

    2. Great review. Bonus points for the underutilised 'doozy' and the 'teeny-tiny'.
Liked the look of that meal.
Still have an aspiration to fly east, with Swiss (and Finnair) but connection timings always seem too tight to trust.

    3. Hey man, big fan of your work. Just want to say at the 4:23 the audio has a small blurp. Not sure if you can do anything once the video is posted but just wanted you to know. Keep up the awesome videos!

    4. That gate is so much nicer than the agricultural one BA flights arrive at 🤣 Agree with you about the consistent pleanantness. SWISS biz was the first time i tried Tete De Moine and the FA took time to explain what it was. The A220 is such a pretty plane – like a mini Dreamliner šŸ™‚

    5. Fantastic video as always! Thanks for the review šŸ˜€ If you're ever back in South Africa you should maybe give SAA's long-haul options a go since they're starting up a few more routes. Would be cool to see how our long-haul flights stand up to other service providers.

    6. Seemed good on the business side. I recently flew to New Delhi on one of their old A330, and that was a "meh" experience: old outdated IFE and only one meal proposition, vegetarian… The return flight on Lufthansa economy A350 was so much better…

    7. I flew this same airline and aircraft to Geneva from Gatwick 2 years ago from London Gatwick (albeit in Economy) on my to a skiing trip. It's a nice little bird and the service on board was great, despite it being such a short flight. Would deffo do again.

    8. Bundnerfleisch is basically air dried beef "prosciuto". It would look similar to carpacio. The other " thing" seems to be a a cross between cold pulled pork (or veal) and "Rillets". It is however not what you would cal a typical Swiss dish.

    9. LMAO the statistics board is hilarious for anyone who's been to LHR
Quite literally everyone complains how bad is getting to the airport , transfer or check-in šŸ˜‚

    10. Thanks for the video. Re Star Alliance lounges at LHR T2 please note that the Singapore Airlines lounge is about to / maybe already has close for renovation. It will be closed for many months.

    11. Good review, thanks for sharing. I've just been looking at Swiss for UK (MAN) via Zurich to Cape Town.
The thought of ending up on Lufthansa for the long haul makes it much less attractive.

    12. I would love to try swiss' 777 & 220, given the opportunity. As for LHR t2 lounges I'd go for SQ or AC, but heard the United club was a solid choice.
Looking forward to your LX review from LCY.

    13. LHR's terminal 2…doesn't seem as good as terminal 5 but at least better than terminal 3. Terminal 3 is the worst, like a drab and worn-out warehouse. As for the A220, how does the cabin feel like? Does it feel cramp? Legroom and looks aside, how was the seating comfort?

    14. Kevin you must be the fittest most adaptable person on the planet- long hauls, who knows where you eat and what you eat/sleep to jump from plane to plane – will take me a week to get over esp I need a shower and toilet and privacy….not to forget anxiety that is getting worse by the day! Good luck with your venture mate. I wonder if my friend Jennifer Knecht or her partner were at the helm of the Swiss flight as both are pilots….

    15. Hi Kevin, a while ago you changed your intro and told us to wait a while before we gave an honest review. I can now say that I 100% preferred the old intro. The music, structure and general energy of how your videos used to begin was much, much better. I obviously still enjoy your videos and I'm an avid follower/subscriber. I'm just giving you my opinion as per your instruction several months ago.
      Happy travels!

    16. I have no idea what the food is. Aside from the beetroot, it looks like a dessert plate and not a main at all. Strange that there was no menu in business class to tell you!

    17. Hi Kevin great review. I used to fly Swiss from Asia to transfer to small euro cities via Zurich. My only complaints were ordinary food and their cabin announcements were in 3 or 4 languages and so took forever. Is that still the same?

    18. Another transit through London, another bright and sunny day. As someone who lives here, please can you switch flights at Heathrow more often? Like, daily during the summer?
