Dit is aan die Isarrivier noord van die Beierse Alpe geleë en is een van die land se voorste kulturele, ekonomiese en opvoedkundige sentrums. München is in 1158 deur hertog Hendrik die Leeu gestig. Die naam van die stad kom van die woord "monnik" (monnik in Duits – Mönch), aangesien die eerste setlaars monnike was. Koninklike woning: In 1255 het München die woning van die Beierse hertoge en later konings geword. Gedurende hierdie tydperk is die Munich Residence gebou – ‘n luukse paleis wat ‘n simbool van stadsmag geword het. Oktoberfest: ‘n Jaarlikse bierfees wat sedert 1810 in München gehou word.
