I hope that you visit the Saarland too. The people here love to hate their own Bundesland but we have a lot to offer. If you're already in Koblenz I suggest that you travel just a bit further south and give the Saarland a chance.
Thanks for the tour Lee and Betty. Wonderful city and memories.
Another fantastic video from you and Betty. I love visiting Koblenz, and I am always looking forward to my next trip there. Koblenz will be my first stop when I arrive in beautiful Germany. The Eck and the fortress across the Rhine are certainly my go-to spots each time. HOWEVER, your finding of the Pictachio ice cream has inspired me to seek out the Egelosia shop. I would certainly like to try some Pictachio myself. This curious mind would like to know if they have Spaghetti Eis, lol. According to Google Maps, I wil be staying only a 20 min walk to Egelosia, lol. I wil have to try the cake as well from the other place. It is always great to see glimpses of Betty throughout, and great to see you as well, Lee, lol. See you both in your next awesome adventure! BTW- I loved the rhyme, "Across the Square, you'll be there", lol.
❤❤
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for the Rinderroulade ! 🙂👍
There is lots to see at Ehrenbreitstein fortress. Multiple museums, which are all included in the general admission. You can go on the rooftop of the fortress, serval parts of the fortress, an apartment of civil residents from after wwII and much more. But I have to admit, you have to discover some of this. Greetings from Koblenz.
I used to traveled a lot by train along the beautiful Rhine valley, but I never took a break in Koblenz. Now I finally visited Koblenz with your help and it was beautiful. Thanks.
Ich hat Urlaub Koblenz in 2019. Sehr shoenen Maienzeit fur dich.
I would have liked to give you a private tour in my hometown. May next time. 😀
Your opening of the video of the confluence of Mosel and Rhein filmed through the Eck monument is magnificent! Top class photography.
Thx for the nice video
Yes Koblenz is very underrated and worth a visit 😊
Naturally, people lived in towns and villages in this region long before the Romans invaded. The world's oldest man-made depictions, musical instruments, and similar artifacts were discovered not far from there, dating back 40,000 years. In this context, the Romans, who arrived 2,000 years ago and were subsequently driven out after a relatively short period, are of secondary cultural importance.
The name "Deutsches Eck" goes back to a hospital at that place that was run by the Knights of the German Order (falsely called Teutonic Knights, the Teutons were a Germanic tribe centuries before the German Order was founded during the crusades). But the nationalistic fever after the German unification in 1871 and even before when the Rhine river got the status of a national shrine for the German public helped to create that misconception that was the cause for the erection of that gigantic monument for Kaiser Wilhelm I.
Great video. Thank you!
I live 30 miles away from Koblenz. I'm 58 now and the only time I visited Koblenz was when I went to school, about 45 years ago.
I'm glad you enjoyed your time there and the weather was great!
Watched and really enjoyed it! Koblenz looks absolutely beautiful with its historic charm, riverside views, and lovely atmosphere. Definitely a place worth visiting and wonderfully captured in your video. Stay connected and warm regards from Norway 🇳🇴
I was in Koblenz 1964. In stead of the Wilhelm I statue on Deutches Eck there was a flagpole. I think the americans had blown away the statue during the end of WWII
I was born nearby Koblenz, there in Vallendar, the opposite side of Koblenz and later on we moved to Trier. Koblenz is a very interesting City, especially at Deutsches Eck and the Fortress Ehrenbreitstein. 😊
Lovely video, Koblenz is indeed a wonderful city and was our first exile after the flood in the Ahr valley.
Regarding the Saumagen, there is lovely story Kohl told in his last major interview. The first time he took Mitterand to the "Deidesheimer Hof" for Saumagen, Kohl's wife alerted him that the French president seemed very cautious about this odd dish. So Kohl told Mitterand: "If you don't eat up, I'll hand the Saarland back to France." After that threat, Mitterand emptied his plate very quickly…😃
My hometown – and i still like this town
Interesting. I went to the fortress ( my grandfather was stationed there after WWI ). Next trip i will check out more
Saumagen, the german haggis😂
I love your channel so much. It brings back happy memories I have from my three years stationed in Bad Kissingen in the late eighties. You guys are doing exactly what I would love to do, live in Germany. I once visited the Koblenz Military Museum as part of my work back in 1986 but after seeing your video I realize I missed a lot.
I'm living the Best Life here in Koblenz. Left the states years ago and as my parents lived in Germany, I decided to stay. And speaking both languages….😊😊😊
Helmut Kohl used drive Maggie Thatcher nuts with his Saumagen. She really did not care for that, and their relation was, lets say, complicated. Of course in Bill Clinton he found a more compatible connoisseur, as Clinton also loved food very much.
07:52 – 2 Wanderburschen im Hintergrund!
I recommend you visit Tholey / Saarland. The Old Abbey (Abtei) features beautiful stained-glass windows by Gerhard Richter. The large exhibition in the historic building, along with a sale of Villeroy & Boch porcelain at great prices, is worth a visit to Mettlach for a day trip. Of course, the Völklinger Hütte is always worth a visit, with its rotating art exhibitions spread across the expansive grounds. In short… Come to the Saarland 😊
Koblenz was founded as a Roman settlement. The name derives from the Old Latin name "Confluentes" — the Confluents.
Thank you Lee and Betty for helping us re-live our visit to Koblenz in 2018. We really loved it! Did you go on the glass bottom cable car to/from the fortress? Only a few cars had it and we found it by accident. 😅
Wow, looks like an awesome place to visit. Been wanting to visit Cochem for years but haven’t gotten there yet. What an awesome fortress and the other charming churches and buildings. Of course, love seeing the food you’re eating. Great share! Thanks!
