Our Namibia adventure continues! After visiting the beautiful Etosha National Park we drove to North West Namibia to visit one of the most unique tribal groups in the world… the Himba tribe.
Known for their uniquely braided hair and red skin colouring the OvaHimba are a semi- nomadic tribe indigenous to the northern Namibia and Southern Angola. The OvaHimba are semi-nomadic as they have base homesteads where crops are cultivated, but may have to move within the year depending on rainfall and where there is access to water.
In recent years the Himba have faced extreme pressure from drought and climate change. The International Red Cross has stated that approximately 750,000 people living in Namibia suffer from food insecurity with some of the worse cases being in the regions of Namibia where the Himba live.
Blair and I personally wanted to visit the Himba because we wanted to learn more about their unique hair culture as well as other cultural aspects. This ended you being a somewhat documentary with the Himba.
